Every time we get a movie like this, we get specific types of people that are like “You only dislike this movie because you have too much nostalgia for the old ones, these movies are made for kids, you’re being too harsh.” And don’t get me wrong, nostalgia is a heck of a drug, but the CGI is the worst part of those nostalgia-era movies. Nowadays, the plot and writing (and usually acting) of movies like that are just… awful.

i think I could argue that the original Spy Kids felt more like a family movie. It was quirky and had a personality as people had said, but parents could generally watch it and not hate it. This is a pure kids movie with like nothing for adults. I think movies have become very segregated in that movies are more aimed at kids than the entire family.

I think another problem is how close the kids seem in age. Carmen and Juni were like 3-4 years apart and it stirred conflict between them and upped the stakes in the plot. They were always fighting because Carmen was verbally abusive and dismissive of Juni and they had to band together if they wanted to save their parents. What is the honest sibling relationship between Patty and Tony here??

Both fail because one is too good and the other is too bad but together they can solve problems neither of them can solve alone. This kind of dynamic only works because they're similar in age. In the original, the older sister was clearly the better spy from her age advantage. Here they both need to be equally lacking to make up for each others weakness. Or so it seems, I haven't watched the movie yet.

The thing about Rodriguez’s movies is whenever he’s both the writer and director he will work every other role possible including Editor, DP, Composer, ReRecording Mixer, Sound Effects Editor, VFX Supervisor, Production Designer, and Camera Operator He worked all of these roles except DP for Spy Kids, and worked all of these roles including DP for Spy Kids 2 It’s also important to remember that he created Spy Kids for his own children and created Shark Boy and Lava Girl with his son Racer Max based on his son’s own dreams. He’s never cared about whether or not other people like them his only concern has been making something fun for his kids Now that his son Racer Max has grown up they’ve started to make movies together including the Shark Boy and Lava Girl sequel and the latest Spy Kids movie. For them it’s about creating something fun together as father and son that the next generation of kids can enjoy. They don’t really care if people like it or not as long as they had fun making it and even just some kids enjoyed it That’s why no matter how good or bad something is in one of his kids movies, I can’t fault him. Because his son was 4 when Spy Kids came out and 8 when Shark Boy and Lava Girl came out, so his audience for these movies is effectively 4-8 year olds

@@jgould30 What do you mean handed it’s his IP produced by his studio using his own money which he earned from his previous work. He didn’t come from money he worked for everything he had. The only two children’s movies he didn’t entirely produce himself were “We Can Be Heroes” and “Spy Kids: Armageddon” You say how could people let their children watch this but one of Rodriguez’s reasons for making children’s movies was and I quote “A guy told me his son loved Desperado. I said, How old is your son? He said, six. Fuck, he shouldn't be watching that! I can't make movies like that anymore. You don't feel like it's your responsibility, because I never had the intention for kids to watch that. But the reality is they do.” He literally found out kids were watching his R rated movies and decided rather than live with that he was going to change the way he made his R rated movies and start making children’s movies that kids would want to watch The reason his movies for children were so successful is because he wanted them to feel like they were written, directed, and produced by children. For the first movie he used his own drawings from when he was a kid to create things like the Thumb Thumbs and drew inspiration for Floop from Willy Wonka For later movies he got input from his own kids and when they got older he got input from the children of family and friends along with the children they worked with on set I may not care for his recent kids movies, but they’re created using real input from kids about what they actually want to see, not what some studio executive thinks will keep kids watching for the most amount of time. He genuinely cares about the content he puts out and wants to enjoy making movies with his son that kids actually enjoy and have a say in even if it’s not what adults want to watch It’s fine if you don’t like the movies, but at the very least he deserves respect for giving a shit and using his own money to try and make something fun for kids

So for anyone who’s actually curious about why Robert Rodriguez didn’t bring back Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVega (Juni and Carmen), it’s because there’s been so much time that’s passed since the last movie (12 years), it was easier just to start fresh with a new family. If sequels get picked up, he doesn’t mind bringing back legacy characters. {“I wanted to reestablish a new family [in Armageddon],” he says. “It could still be in the same world, so if we get to make more films, there easily could be legacy characters that come back. But because it'd been so long [since 2011’s All the Time in the World], it was important to just start the franchise fresh and then go from there. I would love to bring back [characters], I would love to connect the worlds. That would be so fun.”} For now though, I think he just wants to distance himself away from All the Time in the World as much as possible.

Even if none of the adults there could, they have other spy kids, we saw that in the previous movies, they had several kid teams. And they def have people that works with computers and tech, and some of those are guaranteed gamers.

It lowkey breaks my heart how this movie was so uncreative and jarring, i grew up on the og Spy Kids movies and they were so cool and weird funny on purpose , this movie means the franchise will probably become more of this now 😭 why couldn’t we have more weird creative things like the thumbs and better acting 🥲 I know original spy kids was surely better than whatever this was, unless I’m remembering through nostalgia lol

Also, the original movies also bled green, white, and red (i.e., they were Mexican AF), and that aspect of them always warmed my heart. Is it a coincidence, a statement, or a sign that the Latin-ness of this movie appears to be noticeably muted or toned down?

@@dinosaysrawryes that was a major part of their charm.. the spanish music the way family was at the center of the story now its just generic families with no chemistry and a rushed story

And the OG Spy Kids movie and some dialogues and action that just seem natural. While in this reboot, it just seems to be forced to be funny

I know you did not just sneak in that blasphemy about Parks and Rec, thinking you were gonna get away with it. We are here for Ron Swanson's character growth and happiness in this household 😤

My question is why Chuck doesn’t just use the Intersect and his Nerd Herd hacking skills to defeat the virus.
