Sky High is genuinely one of the most fun DCOMS and deserves so much more love (and a sequel, if not two!) Fun fact: Two of the writers from Kim Possible worked on it, which probably explains why it holds up as well as it does today. Plus if I remember correctly, not only were they planning for a sequel, but they also were thinking about getting Layla and Warren together at the end (as we deserved!) I'm very much blanking on where this is from, but I know there was a lot buzz about it a few years ago. I just wish we got to learn more about this world and these kids - there were rumors of a sequel back in 2016, but obviously that didn't happen. Maybe one day...

One thing I did appreciate about this movie is that, while it becomes a moot point, once Will’s parents know that he doesn’t have powers the two of them talk to each other over it. Will’s Dad realizes that, although disappointed, he doesn’t love his son any less. And as for the family business “He can always go into real-estate!”

The hilarious thing is that this movie came out in 2005 and the real estate bubble would have burst around the time he graduated meaning that he probably wouldn’t have been able to go into real estate either 😂.

@@stickman019 actually. a real estate market crash is an ideal time to buy real estate. Buy low sell high. A lot of people are very wealthy now because they bought houses on the cheap during the financial crisis. But if they started buying before the dip then well yeah... that would have sucked

@@MelvinJoseFilmsSkyhigh was filmed at California State University. California was one of the states hit the hardest by the 2008 housing crash seeing a 50% decline in property values. This was good for new buyers but not for someone who holds a lot of real estate already. When the housing bubble burst home values plummeted and the agencies that were hit the hardest were the one that held vast amount of real estate as the amount of foreclosures made it difficult to capitalize on those investments. It is said in the movie that his parents are the most successful real estate agents in Maxville so, we can assume they hold a large amount of these properties which would sharply eat into their profits. Finally, the tumbling price of real estate would also mean lower barriers to entry would also increase competition as less capital would be required to enter the market. I was oversimplifying my first comment as it was meant to be taken as a joke but, there is a possibility that they were able to capitalize on the collapse. Since he would have graduated when the the initial shock happened, they might not know how widespread the effects would be and he could have been disillusioned from entering such a volatile market. It's just interesting that an off-handed comment in the movie was so impacted by a future event that shook the basis of our economy. It would be akin to someone in a late 90s movie saying “We’ll meet back here in the world trade center in 10 years.”

An aspect I always love about this film is that, despite the fact it's live action, I feel this film is a great example/lesson in character design and how you should design them. all the character's outfits and designs reflect themselves and also hint at what their abilities are (I personally think great character design can tells you about the character/hint at what they can do). The glow kid wears mostly white, yellow and neon green which all reflect the idea of glowing/light (plus his fashion is meant to be flashy, key word "flashy) the melting kid wears all orange throughout the film which makes him look like a giant dreamsicle/popsicle which hints at his melting powers, the goth shapeshifter has a tie-die look to her clothes which style has a morphing quality to it, and will is dressed in red, white, and blue which makes him come off as the "all-american boy"/make him look similar to superman which he kind of is in terms of powers and role. Additionally, I love the humor when it comes to superheroes/tropes. the film's humor doesn't come off as just mocking the idea of superheros, it doesn't feel like them going "hah hah aren't these comic tropes just stupid and ridiculous" It honestly feel like the creators have a massive love of superheros and were just asking "hey what would daily life for a superhero be". The film really does explore that concept really well, aswell as the concept of a superhero school greatly & in cool ways. Like how will's dad just has dozens of phones in case he breaks one, how they made changing into their gym uniforms into an actual test (superheroes would need to learn to quickly change into their outfits) or how the gym class just has a car to drop on anyone with superstrength because one of the most famous comic cover's of all time is superman (one of the first superheroes) lifting a car.

Maybe the glowing boy learns how to shine blindingly bright and focus light into hot lasers. The melting kid could trick a villain into drinking him then the melting boy controls the villains body from the inside.
