The new Spain's Plaza | Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Park

Praça de Espanha
After the works to convert the stroad to an urban park, this area of the city gained a new face. Once known as Palhavã, Praça de Espanha was, for decades, a chaotic area, full of avenues that were impossible to cross safely. Praça de Espanha connects the Lisbon Metro station, with the same name, the Portuguese Institute of Oncology, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Spanish Embassy, the Teatro Comuna, Teatro Aberto, and the Lisbon Central Mosque, in addition to all surrounding residential and office areas. The urban park, named Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Park, in homage to the architect, now creates a huge area of pedestrian connections between all these previously isolated pedestrian traffic generating poles.
// Accessibility
After the works, Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Park and Praça de Espanha gained fully accessible crossings, including tactile pavement. Traffic lights have audible warnings. The floors are mostly in smooth concrete. The Metro station is not yet accessible at the time of publishing this video.
