    I’ve managed just fine for decades with a 5 foot bed, so a 4 footer will be adequate- just drop the tailgate for longer items. Get a hitch extension and some ratchet straps for securing really long stuff like a kayak. When I had an SUV I put bikes on a hitch rack, so I’d do the same here and use the bed to carry random gear and tools. 80% of the time the trucks I see are hauling nothing but air or trash, people tend to way over estimate what they are going to carry. The only full size trucks I see loaded up are contractors like plumbers, painters and landscaping companies.

    You are right, and when you realize the full size trucks cost over 50k you wouldn't even wanna use the bed for trash or anything else that can scratch or damage it, people are scare to use their new trucks as intended unless they are work trucks or already an old beater

Granted if you’re someone who fishes very often with 10 foot fishing rods then no, but for someone who regularly fishes streams, creeks, small body’s of water with rods ranging from 4 foot 6 to even those two piece 7-8foot rods, you can store everything in the back including you’re fishing vest/bag and it’s all out of the elements

    Thanks for this. I was disappointed to see that even one motorcycle is a no-go. IMO, Hyundai not offering a 5’ bed, at least as an option, is a huge mistake. Not being able to transport dirt bikes, mountain bikes, and the like in the bed, even with the tailgate down, limits its appeal among potential buyers. It also makes its high GVW kind of a joke. There are things that crossovers can do that pickups can't though, the Tucons remains a very short overall length, but if you are by yourself or just one passenger, you can fold the rear seats down, lay down a tarp, and load it up with a huge amount of cargo that is safe from the elements and theft if you were to stop by a iHop for a quick bite. A SC is much longer and because there is no passthrough into the bed, the length of items you can haul without it really sticking far out the back is limited. The Baja and Avalanche resolved these issues by allowing you to fold down the second row seats that would connect with a passthrough to the bed.

  • @stephenj4937

    Well done! Years ago I built a spreadsheet of everything I ever carried/moved and used that to help decide on a vehicle. Turned out the 2008 Sport Trac pretty much did it all. That was just enough bed, and it was not hindered by the tonneau cover box because you could easily remove the cover if necessary. That bed size was the minimum. Might as well just have an SUV if any smaller.

  • @ZuminaZX
    @ZuminaZX2 жыл бұрын

    the desert sled uses a larger front wheel/tire at 25.5" in diameter and has a comparatively long wheelbase at just under 60". This means that the minimum bed length required is 72.5" which would put the front tire against the bed's front wall and the axle immediately above the 72.5" mark, The santa cruz bed with the tailgate down is just a hair under 6' or 72". This means a typical sport bike like a yamaha R6 with a wheelbase of 54" and a 23" diameter front wheel will fit just fine. Its overall length requirement of 65.6" inches leaves enough room behind the rear axle to haul it safely. However, a standard YZ450F dirt bike has a wheelbase of 58" and a 28" diameter front tire, bringing the length requirement to 72" just like the Desert sled. So yes, it will haul smaller motorcycles/sport bikes but it won't haul a dirt bike without turning it diagonally (this is how you should haul it anyway) or larger bikes.

    I want to like this thing, but I am struggling with the logic. If one was going to haul things in the bed regularly, a mid-size or full size truck with a bigger bed would be the better choice. I don't have a use for a full size pickup, or a mid sized pickup. I work for the Federal Government in an office. So I'm not hauling things around. Plus, I live by myself, so anything that I would use a full size/ mid size truck for, I wouldn't be able to carry or move myself. Example, washers, dryers, couches, dinning tables, hot water heaters and so on. I just need something that will fit items that won't fit in a 2009 VW Jetta. Like Bar B Que pits, Patio Furniture, small dressers, Televisions over 70 inches, and so on. Basically something that can handle small home improvement projects. So for someone single, lives by themselves, and does home improvement projects on their own home, by themselves only with no help, then this could be a perfect vehicle for the. It is for me, I just need something that will fit items that won't fit in my current car, but items that I can handle on my own. I don't tow anything and I don't work in construction, or run a lawn service. I'm a federal employee for a hospital, need to do small home improvement projects, and go out and have picnics and to the beach.
