The NEW Morgan MVP66 Captures JTM45 and adds more REALISTIC GAIN!
Музыка
I demonstrate the brand new Morgan MVP66 guitar amp. It was actually released by Morgan Amps yesterday 12/11. I'm playing the amp using a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Gibson Les Paul Custom. The amp is played through a 1971 Marshall model 1960A 4x12 speaker cabinet.

For a tonally vintage style amp, nearly everyone I've watched play this so far has somehow managed to make it sound like a modern cheap transistor amp. Only the great JOHAN SEGEBORN (as per the usual) is able to bring out the true potential in this thing 😎

@@mikeaustin4138 I am not a fan at all of any of the guys from Andertons. I've watched Rabea's video and it's more of the same generic modern tone he gets out of the amp as everyone else I mentioned. Adding pedals to this amp also destroys it's true tone.

I haven't gotten that vibe at all from any Morgan demos I've seen. I think it depends on what kind of sound you're going for. Morgan amps nail a nice, organic breakup and high gain if called for. I have the MVP 23 combo and I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would put a distortion pedal of any kind in front of it. It does clean and breaks up to full crunch all by itself. Why drink a fine wine through a plastic straw?
@Dagger_323

@@maxpeck4154 That's basically what I'm referring to. Most other people that have demo'd the amp put pedals in front of it and mask the sound of the amp. I want to hear what the amp sounds like, not the player's pedalboard.

Great sounding amp, the bass response is deep but clean! The crunch is fantastic! It is a really nice looking minimal design also. Although, it may be hard to keep clean and can see dust being an issue in the basket weave over time. Amp designers need to be aware of those things when coming up with coverings. Excellent as always Johan! Love the riffs. 👍🏻 Still curious what you think of the Victory V30. Rock n Roll! 🎸🤟🏻 - K

Such a killer amp! Johan, there’s a brand from Detroit that makes amazing sounding amps (based on Marshalls of course) which are the ones that Jake Kiszka from Greta Van Fleet uses. The brand’s name is Bletchley. I guess these amps are worth a video!

How do you think it compared with the Marshall Vintage Modern, which also has KT66 tubes.
Johan, can you compare a non finished guitar with a finished one? There’s always been the myth that the finish chokes the tone. Awesome vid!!!

Thanks! Lets ser if we can come up with an experiment. I’m skeptical though. Cheers
@gergodaroczy8103
3 жыл бұрын
@Greg Walker My father once tried this experiment and it was a lot of difference in sound, and sustain. If you think about phisics, the strings always want to lose vibration and the changing of the material they are attached to will effect this capability. Even if you put different finish, or different chambers in the body will effect tone. And of course pickups also catch every vibration differently, even if they are held by a plastic cover or screwed to the wood. In luthiery school we do such tests all the time with our acoustics teacher.

When listening in the room does the amp still sound good as you reduce power? Or is it something you want to keep at least halfway up.
@maxpeck4154
2 жыл бұрын
I have the baby brother MVP 23 and it sounds fantastic with the power down low, BUT the push of the speaker is obviously lacking at low volume, which contributes to the tone of any amp. The higher the power level the less compressed and squishy it is, but it retains the tone infinitely better at low volume than a traditional master volume setup any day of the week.
9:46 and 12:19 are pretty incredible, imo.

From what I've read, Morgans are not very well made. Shoddy soldering, poor component selection, and bad circuit design. I know their AC20 model has a nasty habit of blowing up. Check out Psionic Audio's channel. He did a few reviews/ repairs on Morgans and did not have nice things to say.

Well, I wouldn’t say they’re not dependable. There may have been an amp or two blowup. I can’t imagine any manufacturer that has it, especially considering the biggest manufacturer of all Fender and Marshall as much as I love Marshall amplifiers, and I’m an active silver jubilee user following that Joe Bonamassa sound either way they suck even their hand wire stuff is questionable and usually Hass to have additional mods. I had David Friedman mod one of my amps because of that particular reason my blues breaker, the other thing I will tell you as I’ve been gigging for 35 years on and off and the Morgan MVP 66 is one of the greatest kicking amps I’ve seen put out in the past 10 years super dependable fantastic from headroom to Bedroom I mean what more could you get a perfect getting Amp head or combo With a solid-state rectifier Mercer transformers, which are by the way the number one made transformer in the country top rated by every boutique manufacturer. Call David himself and ask him if you don’t believe in Friedman amps you possibly cannot believe in hand wired at all and if you don’t believe them, call bad cat they like the Mercer transformers two are called a boutique ant manufacturing company who uses Mercer‘s all over the place either way what I’m telling you is all of these amps Friedman Morgan And several others including bad Cat are all manufactured in the same plant just using different tech specs and formats based on designer specs none of those manufacturers, hand, manufacturer and hand wire all of them stamps themselves. They certainly have others do it. It is done in America, but there’s only one factory that does boutique amps, and they do all of them. Keep that in mind when you’re making comments about manufacturers like Joe Morgan, who have a great reputation and I can honestly tell you from personal experience. He’s no joke and that’s a damn good app and I am glad that somebody finally showed what it could do on KZread because it has more potential than the Marshall did for this error. 12:28 12:33

I haven’t expected less from the Morgan. He captures the nature of the original and gives it his little twist making it little bit easier to use and often more reliable. No wonder that Johan understands how was this amp was meant to be played. He is the vintage Marshall Guru. For a while I have had similar idea and I got power transformer for it, but the other amps kept me away from it. Idea of making one input Master Volume variation of JTM45. Well in between anyways I was considering bit more complex amp and this Morgan amp finally pushed me towards that idea while I do not want to build my amp like someone else already did. Sure I build clone amps to but only the clones of yhe classics. For my original amps I like them to be different. Now I'm going to have to build two KT66 and six 12AX7 tubes amp into the small cabinet head. All point to point. It is going to get quite crowded but it has nice potential. Two inputs two completely different channels with two separate preamp sections. One similar to this and the other completely different type of amp. Idea is to have possibility to use ABY switcher and be able to access something like two different amps in one box. Off to the drawing table 😃.
