The New Icelandic Lava Road After 2 Eruptions - Thermal Drone View and More

I did this thermal scan with a few before and after videos to show you the hot lava road that got covered twice with tongues of lava coming from the eruption in February and April. I decided to have a little fun with the editing since iv'e been doing so many videos that i really didn't want to do since November. This is a natural disaster and we might just as well get the third doze of lava over the road tomorrow, but so be it, we will just fix it again so this video is simply symbolic of Icelandic stubbornness, or the famous Icelandic phrase, "Þetta reddast" meaning, it' will be fine.

I had some problems with this one, knew the thermal footage would be of interest but needed something more with it, and while the truck drove by, I knew I had the shot that would make me finish the job, I'm getting tired of endless bummer news from there, so I needed do have a little fun with this one, and I'm glad you liked the outcome :)

@@JustIcelandicdo you know if there are any signs - or local warnings - advising drivers not to linger on the hottest parts of the road, or is everyone just taking it in their stride? I'd imagine that the tyres would become a bit soft if a car stopped in that section for more than a minute or so.

I guess it's just a basic dirt road plus perhaps some asphalt this far. It's only a quick and temporary solution but who knows where the lava will end up next? Plus it will be a while before *that* road is going to freeze over. When you need to water on the road to keep it from getting too hot, there's a lot of heat stored down there!

The icelandic lava has its sides, good and bad. The good one is that you don't have to worry much about how to construct a solid base to put the road on. Once you have cleared the rubble from the area, the base is there - solid as a rock.

I cannot imagine dealing with volcanos on a regular basis but especially driving over lava - especially HOT 🥵 lava. I understand cooled lava can punch through and to even think what that would be like … well .. I don’t want to. I think about the man who volunteered in one of the earlier eruptions and fell into the depths of the open earth. Breaks my heart. Actually for everyone who has also been separated from their homes and friends and families most likely. A different breaking of the heart than death. But still painful to think. Always like your videos and the extra touches of the music you choose. Quite informative about many things too. Thank you. Be careful. Stay safe. ❤

What the heck? The lava is still hot? A month after the flow? If I didn't just see it, I wouldn't believe it! Thank you for showing us the 'unseen'!

It will be warm even after years. Depends on the height, but 10m high flow takes 3 years to cool.

Marvelous footage with your thermal drone and comparisons over time, rousing soundtrack, thank you, Gylfi for spending so much time away from home so you can share all this with the world. I miss the now buried little lava road, a wonderful tourist site while it lasted.

That's crazy seeing people drive over a road of still warm lava. Very quick work by road maintenance department. We could do with some of that in ours. Just remember, no parking on warm lava! 💚✌️😎🇮🇸

@@JustIcelandic Definitely! Just so you know, I've got some catching up to do. We've been having a very active tornado season, and I follow meteorology, as well. Hopefully these will let up soon. Our Tornado Alley is doing too much to live up to its name this season. And, they're not giving much warning. Today some were spinning up as fast as the conditions were spotted. At least volcanoes don't drop right down out of the sky. Hope your weather and travels are going smoothly! 💚🇮🇸✌️😎🍀

Nice video Gylfi. It show the determination of Icelanders to get on with things, no matter what the volcanoes bring. Look after yourself and take care. Greetings and best wishes from NZ.

Awesome video! Love the music too! My respect to the resilient Icelanders for their tenacity where i would imagine some others would simply give up in such a situation! Is that water being sprayed on road by lorry? To cool lava?
