I play on woah mode and with antlion armour, mint mace, 15 granola bars and it was literally impossible - grinded it for 2 hours non-stop and I got it past 4/5 on the bar maybe 3-4 times out of 20+ tries. I think the devs tried to make the game challenging for medium players without a whole lot of thought on how mind-numbingly difficult it is for woah mode. I’m fine with a hard challenge but not one that’s borderline impossible. I love this game so much and I really enjoy woah mode but it hurts to see stuff like this. Same thing happened with the haze lab but a bit less impossible…

If you wanna cheese it a bit. Cut down a lot of grass and just lay them around the sword so the larvae get either stuck or fling around. So you can focus on the main ones attacking the sword.

If you place clay foundation correctly you can make a path of it and build a pyramid around the sword 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 took about 112 clay though so have fun hahahaha

I used a lvl. 8 mint mace, full Ant lion gear and tier 3 fresh Defense. Yes, it took me a few tries, but the mace kills the larvae in 3 hits, extra stamina might have been nice to swing better, but if you are comfortable enough to swing at multiple larvae at the same time, you can pull it off. They aggro on you more than the sword, so you can actually pull them away from it. Crossbow and mint arrows might also help get some damage in while recovering from the sizzle.

Got inspired by your video and beat it at the third try. My method was a combo of various elements: Quesadillantlion, Full Antlion Gear, Lvl 8 Black Oxe Hammer with Fresh, Lvl 8 Mighty Black Oxe Crossbow & Buff Lungs, Fresh Defense, Mom Genes & Mantsterious Stranger for mutations. Esp those last two kept drawing the waves of the sword. I just tagged them with the crossbow, and the rest was purely on those distractions :D It worked! woopwoop :D But I wouldn't haven't thought of Fresh Defense if it wasn't for your video Sim, thx mate! :D

Remember guys, if you fail this challenge you need to repair the sword with a Repair Tool before trying again, otherwise the sword will start at half HP!

What is the material reaper it with?

I thought I was going to be all cheeky and run up and grab it after I restarted.... Boy howdy I was wrong!!! Had to work all the way to the antlion armor and mint mace just to make it work.

Sim I have been running a multi player world, For charms can only one person have each at a time or is it tweaked for multiplayer worlds so everyone can have one

I've managed to put a triangle grass wall next to the bottom hole of the charcoal bag, it let's me put an entire network of clay foundations in there to act as defences. Larva be damned, have fun breaking through fort clay!

sounds like this encounter needs to be nerfed alittle bit.

what should i do if the sword says "no" when i try to pull it and the bar for the sword is empty?

I’m so glad I got the coal tana before the update 😄

I love the idea of making this a defense event, but man, I really hope they nerf this a little. This seems almost too difficult to complete at the moment.

ya me and a friend got folded like 4 times from this stupid thing xD it wasn't even just sizzle as the factor, its that with 1 friend, theres so many larva, we got completely overrun with like 5 larva on me, 5 larva on her, and 5 more larva on the sword at almost all times

They should allow building since it is a defense challenge I feel like it would still be challenging since bugs deal a good chunk of dmg in a group

I just feel this challenge was necessary for obe the most hard zones in the game, good.

Hold on I've never used the mush bricks, just because im not wasting that much farm time, but you have to duck to walk out of the entrance every time? Is that because of the sombrero or with any gear on?

This took me a few tries, but I figured out a strategy that worked. I just found a place to stand far back where I wasn’t sizzling used melee on the larva that came close and shot my bow at the ones going for the sword. 🤷‍♀️

Quesadiantlion meal also adds sizzle protection that stacks eith everything else. And this is another challenge that should scale to number of players.

I remember doing this with lady bug armor and stinger spear i thought i was ready but instead i got my mentality going up the heaven and when i canme back with antlion armor and a mint mallet they said bye bye

Don’t use the termite axe, use the mint mallet and with any critical hit chance buffs and the obvious heat resistance

Would gas arrows work to kill the larva on the sword without getting close to it?

Didn't have the charm but glad you mentioned how to eat 18 pieces of mint lol I had antlion armor, antlion meal Didn't even get fully sizzled it went up so slow.

The mint mace destroys those bugs, also you can eat mint pieces to cool off the sizzle

Can u do a video on all the mutations in the game?

Can someone lmk of this has happened to them, i have two of the same recipe and now when i repair an item it goes back to what it was before i repaired it 2-3 min later

Did the coaltana event break after the 1.0.5 update? Or is there a cool down after a failed attempt? Or if you fail it can you not get it? I tried several times in a row and then figured I'd up my gear a bit more and now when I go to it it just says no when I try to grab it.

I ran across a devastating bug doing the coaltana i failed my game crashed and then i logged on it it wiped every equipped armour and weapon trinkets too

Do you know why the health is half way when I start it up. Is it a bug?

If you fail it can you try again later? Does it respawn or is it just 1 attempt? I'm speaking from the perspective of multiplayer where you cant savescum. Though with 2 people I'm sure it's much much easier.

It slowly regains health over time or you can repair it yourself if you dont want to repair it yourself wait for it to go to full before doing it again

Another help is using a LB larva trophy thing it buffs ur dmg against them

I'm going to add that you should eat a quesadillantlion before you attempt this challenge, it will just stack sizzle protection the same as fresh defense or the antlion armor

I just completed as we speak but get a full set of any lion armor and get the mint mace and level it up to at least level 3 it’s a 3 swing kill at level 3 if you can’t get a mint mace for what ever reason get the ant lion great sword and get it to level 6 do as he says and get fresh defense but also use meat shield I used the crow crossbow for shooting at the larva that attack the sword while you back up to get rid of the sizzle effect that’s all I did and it took 2 or 3 attempts good luck

How do I infuse the weapons with fresh?

Antlion armor, fresh defense, oxbow with splinter arrows and quesadillantlion… get up on pile of coals that lead up to top of bag just out of reach of larva, and shoot them. Actually stupid easy.

on medium you can do this with lvl 7 fresh rusty spear lvl1 antlion armor and no trinket just look at the ground and try to attack the larvae before they get near the coals hope this helps people.

I used the mint mace as my weapon granted I did upgrade it to level six but I can confirm you can beat it with the mint mace

I just did it and here, this is what I used rust spear with mint lv 6, antlion gear hat lv 8, both chest and leg lv 7 sleek and with mutation Javelineen lv 3, buff lungs lv 1, cardio fan lv 3, Fresh Defense lv 3, and guard dog lv 2 with the food dish Quesadillantlion it last for 20 mins I was fighting on top and when the heat gets half, I ran around kill ing those that ran to the rocks then back on rock when the heat is back down all the way.

It’s actually possible to get the Coaltana without a friend but you’ll need to upgrade a Rusty Spear with Mint and you’ll be able to do it in time. Setup: Antlion Armor set Quesadantlion Shiny Laravebird Head And few amount of Healing items or to be save make one Sticky Rage and Human Food.

Interesting. Was considering upgrading the rusty spear, but wasn't sure. The infection perk seemed tempting. I managed to do the challenge with a crossbow. It's nice to see what other methods players come up with. I'll give this a try sometime. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to see how Sim will tackle the challenge.

I did it with a Fresh Mosquito Needle (May have been a Tiger Mosquito Rapier) and it's useful because the amount of damage the Larva's will do when they team up on you. The Life Steal it has is a real life saver

The coaltana is a spicy 🔥🔥🔥 task to complete

Just finished this with no idea going in it was a wave defense. Survived with 1 hp and my leggings broke. Had antlion armor and fresh defense so going in blind can definitely can end you quick if you aren't at least decent at the game. Also the sword was near death as well so be careful peeps.

i got it 2 try with your tips ty

When I did it, I stood in the back corner and shot them with my bow to distract them and when they came to me I killed them quickly while shooting any that were going towards the sword

All I used is Antlion Lvl 1 armor, Tiger Rapier with fresh, Thor Pendant, Fire ant shield, and most importantly I rubbed a Firebird Larva Mount for extra damage to them

If you fail and the larva destroy the sword, is it then impossible to get the Coaltana recipe for the rest of the game, or does the sword respawn after a while so you can try again?

Just leave the bag and come back, until you leave the prompt just says "no" but it resets as soon as you leave and come back in

Triggered the event without realising. Had 2 pieces of antlion and t3 fresh def with my ranged build. Ended up kiting 4 bugs in a circle while only shooting the ones that attacked the sword. Sword was half hp when i won. Seemed not that hard on normal diff at least.

Using the black ox hammer is useful as it stuns and does damage to multiple larva together when they swarm the sword

Had question for your video. Why does the sap icon stay on during gameplay? It does for me and I can't find out why it's on and how to get rid of. Thanks

The Sap Indicator is activated during the tutorial quest Craft a Torch. The Sap Indicator will go away once you complete that quest.

The Quesadillantion recipe in the cookery gives sizzle protection as far as I can see !!!

Might upgraded mint mace did the trick 3 hit kill, with stamina perks 😉

Why does mine start with half health!! It’s so hard!!! And how do u get guard dog?!

if you consume mint shards it reduces your sizzle

Honestly I did it first try with a mint mace and antlion gear

All I did was use lv1 ant lion armor, a lv0 mint mace, bring 20 mints pieces, max level fresh defense and lastly a bunch of reloeding last save

Mint Mace does wonders if you have it unlocked. Lvl 1 I cleared that without god mode or any help.

I did it first try without any big preparation. Just use the mint mallet with a decent amount of upgrades.

You have to use a repair tool to repair it

I used super gas and normal gas arrows around the sword.

And now the question in "How to use god mode" I'm glad if you make the video.

What do you do if it says no

took me several attempts but I finally beat it solo, I used full level 6 sleek antlion, tiger mosquito rapier level 2, black ox crossbow level 0, normal arrows, rust spear level 4, mint staff level 0, cardio fan, max fresh defence, coupe de grass, trapper peeper, javelenier, some banadages, thors pendant and a couple smoothies, I also discovered, mint staff has a wonky hitbox, if they are on the coal attacking the sword, the mint staff won't make contact, they need to be on the ground running towards the coalatana for the mint staff to do damage but it does do alot of damage, I tried the mint mace but it swings too slow, so the rust spear worked wonders

Rusty spear with fresh + jav mutation kills them in one hit if you throw it (Y)

Just use stinkbug arrows if you really wanna cheese it like I did

This was easy. All I needed was 3 suckers to be used as fodder and it was all gravy

How I think they buffed this because the lady bug larvae are destroying my coaltana within 4 or five hits just one of them and I'm on easy

I just used antlion armor, fresh defense, and mint mace super easy first try no damage to sword on the medium difficulty setting

@@MistyOnDaGas Depends if you're solo player, even as solo players, keeping extra if you ever invite a friend to join your world. Personally though, I prefer using the sour battle axe. Also, Happy New Years!

I just did it with a rust spear and sizzle armor no upgrades so easy💀

I ate 10 mint shards and got to tier 3.

Yup, as many times as you want but make sure you use the repair tool of the sword will start with half health

I must have had a bug or something because I did exactly what Sim did even before watching this video and every time the challenge would start the coaltona was only at half health and I would lose every time and it wasn't because they were attacking me with sizzle it was because they were attacking the sword and killing it so quickly. Very frustrating, even if you do win you still have to go out and get all the ingredients for it. Not worth it sadly.

Can confirm. If you lose the challenge, you need to repair the sword first before restarting the challenge or it will start at half health. Or even better, just create a new save point right before you start the challenge. If you fail, just reload which saves you from having to repair and having to craft more healing items for a retry etc.

They should make the bar go up faster it's way too slow this games harder than fucking elden ring I honestly don't believe anyone has done this legit alone

I wish they would just go back to making this a pick up. By the time you can get this most of the game is over. At least make the larve target you more than the stupid sword. I pumped almost 10 arrows into a group before they finally drop agro on the sword

Actually, think the recipe is removed and reset, and you had to earn it again. You kept the Coaltana you pulled out from before though. My save which was 620+ days, had the coaltana removed and reset.

​@@lavagaming8553 I lost mine, had to do the challenge to get it back. Luckily I knew an easy way to do it after experimenting a few times. You just reminded me, I have to get the salt morning star again. I forgot that weapon existed. Never really used it. Even when I unlocked the Coaltana, just hung it on the wall, and used the spider fang dagger always, for everything, they nerfed my dagger to heck! Lol. Trying to unlock the Widow Dagger to replace it. Having bad RNG, and those fights are insane.

I always have a salt, spicy, and fresh weapon in my inventory so that I can kill most of the bugs, tho I don't have a sour weapon yet, I want to get the sour battle axe because it's powerful. Never liked the daggers since they are really weak and they have low durability

This is ez I had fresh defence III, anti lion armor, and a mosquito blade all unupgraded then died and still got it first try

really should use what you preach and show people how it looks when you don't use god mode man. Doesn't make people think they can do it when the person they look to is using god mode. Would have loved to see you using all of the setup you said to use and win, to show people its possible.

I fought yesterday for this coaltana. WHOA difficulty. I only had antlion armor set and mint club(7lvl)+crossbow(not Ox, previous one). No food, no smothies. It was hard. I cursed all developers and their families. But after 40 mins of trying I beat it. And.... what was a surprise that this coaltana TOTAL USELESS SHIT! My old club of mother demon(spicy) deal much more dps. And atk.spd not so big difference. Stupid developers they dont know nothing in game balance. This dumb "Challenge" helps me to discover one tip to fight vs larva. When she jump back to do a long jump and u able to reach her, just stay in her textures(body) so hurtbox will be behind your back. U need to parry only when she charges left-right side attack. p.s. this only for ppl on WHOA
