This Radio Detective show ran from 1950 to 1951. The show was based on Rex Stout's character Nero Wolfe. While the characters were based on his writing the stories were not. Sydney Greenstreet stared as Wolfe. His assistant was played by a number of actors including Gerald Mohr.

Sydney Greenstreet was a great Nero Wolfe. I really enjoy listening to The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe. I only wish the show would have gone on longer so there could have been more shows. I am grateful for the shows we do have.

There is a "biography" of Sherlock Holmes that posits Nero Wolfe was the illegitimate son of Holmes and Irene Adler.... I approve this theory!

@@patrickpilch2352 Of course, but all kids have traits their parents do not have. To me, Wolfe has many of the traits exhibited by Mycroft Holmes - the physical inactivity and size coupled with the razor-sharp mental abilities.

" I mean, ah, huh?? That's why I love Nero and Aww-chee. They allow me to feel much better about myself and my nut-case-head. Yep. Yep. 😉

These are okay but, to anyone who reads this, the Nero Wolfe episodes on KZread, starring Maury Chaykin and Timothy Hutton, who also directs, are just wonderful, especially The Doorbell Rings. Read the books and you see Chaykin and Hutton in every paragraph.

@@betsya7054 Agreed, but the Chaykin/Hutton version is head and shoulders above the others. You only have to read one of the books to realise that.

i love Archie’s voice* and delivery. the show wouldn’t work without him. :} 🙃🌷 and, of course, Sidney Greenstreet is amazing. he does so much with so few lines :} 🎭 and great Foley artists !!! %#^**! :) lol (*there’s a different Archie in the last 2 of 3. then the real Archie is in the last one :)

As much as I love listening to this program which I do every day at least five episodes a day ha ha I really love the scenery of the river in the background. Oh my gosh that’s awesome when it hits 110 outside and I’m out water and I’m gonna really want to watch that scenery again. Can I ask how you download it or where you got the scenery of this flowing river please please please ?please

👍 I'm a big fan of Mohr too. He is in so many radio shows! I'm a big fan of Jay Novello too, it was great to hear them both in this!😀
Any chance Mr. Stout's other detectives, Canby Rankin, Sylvia Raffray, Theodolinda Bonner, and Tecumseh Fox, will make it to KZread? They were good books but never achieved the success of Nero Wolfe.

Mr. Greentree is very personable and entertaining. However, he is not the NW of Rex Stout. That Wolfe was often unpleasant and terse. Seldom did he laugh or make jokes with Archie. He is described as magesterial iand formidable. Enjoy these programs nonetheless.

He played Archie in a movie version. I don’t believe he was in the radio shows.
I can listen to Nero Wolfe all night, Archie being so lecherous with every woman he comes in contact with tho, is a different story 🤮 unfort.
If only Bogart had been Archie…
