I was already mad as hell when I read the description “ Family leaves the sanctuary of their safe American suburban surroundings and are plunged into the despair of archaic 80s Britain”….WTF, I grew up in 80s Britain and it was one of the coolest places on earth. As a matter of fact, so did Jude Law. Traitor.

It might be a difficult movie to watch for some people but luckily I was in the right frame of mind to watch it n pay attention to it but I wasn't really sure about the ending, which is why I ended up here lol. Hard to think that Rory would choose another career or anything like that. I'm surprised about Allison staying with him after all he's put the family thru.

A deep dive into the family dynamics would be soooooooo interesting. Seems like Rory causes the chaos, Allison is a willing participant, and the children are playing whatever role they need to play to survive the chaos. The daughter specifically plays the role of maternal sister and peacemaker who wants to be accepted. Hence the party she had where she takes drugs & drinks to fit in or be apart of the crowd.

The movie was great and wonderfully -acted but the ending was very anti-climactic. I assumed Rory had the horse exhumed to see why it died and if he could sue the previous owner. Nothing was ever addressed about the daughter’s drug fueled party and the quick scene that shows she has clearly cut herself a lot on her thighs…..

I thought the same about the horse. I got the metaphors about the horse but I really thought the reason it wasn’t buried properly was because he had it exhumed and poorly re buried as he didn’t care about the horse

It turns out after all he’s put them all through, she’s the realistic sensible stronger one, and she’s married to a stupid selfish airhead of a man. she’s sitting at the head of the table now at the end, and I got the feeling that she’s going to plan out their lives, a smaller home, mainstream average job, and that could be the best thing for them to get back on track. And she might do it herself, just her and the kids, they could be better off without 80s excessive silly Rory altogether.

I liked it although I expected it to be about some creepy loner stalking them (all those really long, unnerving shots of the house and field seemed like they were POV shots). Anyone else get that vibe?

That horse scene at the end was very confusing. I had no idea why they were making such a big deal about finding a horse that they already knew was buried. Bad editing? That was confusing

just finished this film, thanks for your review! we also felt like the ending could've been stronger, there were really good scenes throughout but there was something about the ending... the one question we had was what was up with the door that opened when the wife was going around making sure all the doors were locked. Maybe the husband poisoned the horse, but there wasn't enough to really say

Maybe Rory took a page out of Ralphie Ciffareto’s book, but instead of killing the horse in an arson related crime, Rory did poison Allison’s beloved horse as you suggest? I only wish the feckless and duplicitous Rory had ended up like the loathsome Ralphie did, courtesy of an irate Tony Soprano.

As always, GREAT REVIEW. From the review it sounds sort of like it's a critique on the decade that "built" Donald Trump. Also. maybe i'm reading way too much into this, but maybe the ending was supposed to represent the emptiness of the promise of excess from the 80s?

I finally watched this movie (then came straight to your review!) and I liked it but it is advertised as a thriller so I was cringing through the second half waiting for something awful to happen! Not cool. Its a drama; I'm not sure why they're listing it as a thriller. I hate when that happens. They had me worried something would happen to the sweetheart of a son for a large chunk of the film because I was anticipating a tragic ending

I couldn't get thru it for 2 days. Finally day 3 (whew) I completed the entire movie- happily skipping thru bits I've seen. All actors are great. From the smallest role to main character(s). Cons: Slow. Dark. Did I mention slow? Absolutely nothing's triumphant. Elongated scene(s). Sucky ending & there's Never a resolution. So, if you like those movies where you ask (seconds before credits) I wonder what happens next? This is surely a movie for you.

The Devil all the Time was good. This was mediocre at best. The cast did what they could. More the story was lacking here. I mean really nothing happens. And i usually love shit where nothing happens, just finished 10 hours of nothing with The Curse and it was great! This, this wasn't very deep, and could of said all it had to say in the 1st 30 minutes. You're basically just dropping in on this family and by the end there will be no resolution, just nothing so you can interpret that negatively or positively. Felt like a bit of a waste of time. The characters weren't super likable. No quotable dialogue. I wonder if the crew is British or if this is just what they thought British people were like haha! It was more like a British caricature! Not a fan lol but i did watch it. Definitely wouldn't recommend it
