The Need to Belong: The Belongingness Hypothesis and the Psychology and Theory behind It

TRANSCRIPT: criminologyweb.com/the-need-t...
In this video, I provide a summary of the need to belong hypothesis, including the theory and psychology behind it. The belongingness hypothesis was first developed by Professor Roy Baumeister (University of Queensland) and Professor Mark Leary (Duke University). I give examples and answer the question of why do we need to belong to someone? The belongingness hypothesis is very well-known and has been covered in videos and even a TED talk. The meaning and definition of belongingness and it’s place in the Maslow pyramid have often been discussed. In this brief overview, I discuss the sense of belongingness and what a lack of belongingness can cause. This video is in English.
