Agreed 100%. The main issue with this, "in season tournament," is that it's so early in the season, which is undoubtedly a ploy to cater to players whose legs can't make it through a full season. The tournament would have been a good replacement for all-star weekend, with the teams getting in based on records, to that point. Instead, this is indeed a sham, designed to give perennial choke artists more chances at fake trophies.

They're trying to recreate something like that.

I was hoping you were going to cover the In Season Tournament. I honestly thought that someone was going to get hurt playing in this crap and i also thought that this was Adam Silver's way to make up with not being able to rig the playoffs for Lebron to win and go to another finals.

It’s for reasons like this why I don’t even watch the NBA anymore. The players run the league, they play when they feel like it, and change teams like underwear. This vid is bizarre man, I don’t think anyone really puts any stock into the importance of winning the cup. It’s just a way to make some regular season games feel more meaningful and both games last night had a playoff-like intensity you rarely see in December games. Framing this as some conspiracy to make Lebron gain accolades just makes any other point you make in this video come off as unreasonable

I believe the in season tournament was created for the same reason the play-in was. To help Lebron get more chances at winning. Ever since he went to the west, he started missing the playoffs a few times. The league can't have that so the play-in was created. He may not advance to another Finals and the league can't have that. So this tournament gives him a chance to win something Jordan, Kobe, Bird and Magic never won. And they will use that nonsense as another selling point as to why we should all snow-cone him the way so many others do.

This gotta be the height of what hating another man can be. Like reaching skip bayless levels of crazy Lebron hate. The NBA totally rigged this tournament for Lebron as we can see by them putting the Suns in their group. They probably went and attacked and injured Booker and Avery Bradley in their homes also just so the Lakers could advance in the tournament..... Not to mention the tournament doesn't end in the group stage, I wonder how the league will rig the Lakers if they play the Bucks or another powerhouse. Also saying that the salaries are inflated right after complaining that Boston kept all of their stars in through the 4th quarter is so weird. If you are mad about the high salaries shouldn't u at least want the players to stay in as long as they can and earn the money. Also, the teams care about 500,000 dollars and the tournament because while obviously, the stars earn much more than that, the players on 2-way contracts and league minimums also get that money, which is probably years' worth of salary. No matter how much you make you're going to try when it's not just your potential money but the money that your teammates could possibly earn also. I do agree with the point differential though, The Celtics shouldn't need to foul while up 20+ points.

I will say that this generation of players ethics when it comes to basketball is pathetic. But I thought that this tournament was the best thing they possibly could have done for their fans. It spices up the regular season a little bit, and it gives a chance for fans who root for teams that can't win a championship that year, a chance to root for their team to win something. Like I am a Pacer's fan and I'm excited to watch the Pacers perform tonight against the Celtics. Because I know we aren't a championship team, but we are contenders for this. I think as an NBA fan, the fact they added something to the regular season, when we've been asking them to do something for years is nice. I do see your Pov though. I'm also praying for the fake king's downfall in this game against another fake player in Durant.

@skap_attack Thanks, I know the Pacers have such a bright future. Haliburton is lowkey more of a point god then Chris Paul at this point. I think I slightly disagree with the best teams being in the tournament, as we get to see them in the playoffs and they are title contenders. Versus a team like the Kings, Pelicans, and Pacers who aren't title contenders but are good teams. I just think that it is cool for fans of non contending teams to be able to root for their team in something new and different. And once again, Leflop will choke on a other bright stage, like he always does

I disagree strongly I actually like the cup. I know you highlighted how Lakers were 4-0 whilst being mid overall but thats what i like. Because there is only played 4 games any team can get in. Look at the Pacers do you think them going 4-0 was rigged? They even had a strong group to go along. I truly think this is just what happens when the sample size is so small. Within the next 5 years we'll see a team that eventually misses the playoff make it to the semis that my prediction. The winners of this tournament can be anybody its fun especially for fans of teams that aren't gonna win the chip (like the Lakers or Pacers). The playoffs is like March Madness except you only have to overpeform/get lucky 3 times to win it all so upsets champs will be even more frequent. Sure LeBron fans will try to make the cup seem like some huge accomplishment if he does win and that'll be tiring to hear about but thankfully he isn't likely to win right now.

Suns are top 3 title favourites on just about every betting website and the injuries weren’t even there when the groups were made. Are you suggesting they purposely injured Devin Booker? The groups were also revealed before Dame was even traded from Portland starting their rebuild. Lastly Jazz sure they’re bad. Not the worst though. And let’s not act like teams aren’t supposed to be a mix of good and bad teams. For what was supposed to be the worst team in the group Jazz did have an all star starter last year. Thats better than teams like the Spurs or Rockets.

Jokic and the nuggets were an OLD SCHOOL throw back last year. No wonder they won the chip and barring injury are likely to defend it this year. If they really wanted to install an anti tanking incentive then they should of started it after the all-star break or instead of all-star weekend. When the tournament is over in a week, there's a WHOLE lot of time to tank afterwards if a team chooses to.
