If any veterans need help filing for disability, check out heros serving heros and McKeown law. They can represent you when filing for disability with the VA. Even if you have filed in the past, they will resubmit for you. I hope the first caller has 100% but if not should definitely reach out to them. Lyle, thank you for giving this guy a voice and a space to speak, much love homie.

@@woodchuck003 stop fronting that I’m not doing well and that I’m a liar. You don’t know me at all but you’re highly confident in labeling my mental state and my service “if I served”. I was more nervous talking about it online because of how much energy it takes to stay on topic in conversation I was a bit shaky that I’d be talking forever or that I was boring. Please be more mindful to what I experienced, that’s what the military treated me as a faker and a liar for 7 years with 100k in debt on the street. There’s almost a decade of medical records and treatment I’ve had to endure to speak straight I had to relearn to speak in the first year after being in a mental ward. I’m lucky as hell to even be as self aware and mindful of what my life could have turned into all things considered.

I knew, when I heard the first person talking about mental illness, social security, and rent/mortgages being sky high, that they were a Washingtonian. I'm about to start the dreaded process of trying to get on disability for my chronic pain and mental illnesses. To the first caller, I am not a vet, but everything else that you talked about, I totally relate. I also have a partner. I feel badly about not being able to work, while my wife who is twice my age(but VERY healthy and doesn't look her age[which doesn't matter], works two part time jobs to support us. And we can't get married before I figure out things with social security because I could lose my health insurance. I understand feeling a sense of shame and guilt for not being able to provide for your family. If you ever see this, I hope that things are looking up for you. At least the sun is finally starting to make an appearance, and that definitely helps. Sending you a warm hug 🫂 Blessed be to you and yours 🖤🖤

My brother-in-law is diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic. I wish that he could function as well as the first caller. We would have to have him arrested and put into the prison/institution system in order to get him any type of long-term care which is ridiculous. It gives me hope that someone who is schizophrenic can live a decent life and I'm happy that caller is doing well.

He won't eat, won't take his medication, and has attempted suicide several times. He's already been committed before but since he's an adult he can only be held for a limited amount of time. At this point, it's either death or being convicted and institutionalized where someone can at least attempt to help him 🤷🏼‍♀️ It's really not that simple. And his problems are beyond his capacity, and our family's abilities, to help him through.

It sounds like the first caller might be on SSI, which really sucks. The resource limits ($2000 for an individual and $3000 for a married couple) haven’t been updated since 1989. It absolutely keeps people in poverty and discourages working. It’s good that it exists for people that need it, but it needs way more government funding and a complete overhaul imo Edit to add: John sounds super cool. From what I've heard from John he is an amazing and loving guy. It really saddens me to know there are people being rejected from living a normal life by being rejected from the workforce despite how great people they really are. I was diagnosed back in the day paranoid schizophrenic and those pills nearly ruined me. I miraculously completely healed out of it with lots of mental work, and inner peace seeking and finding my own happiness. I really hope those pills don't anchor John down too much because they can be very debilitating on the body. They are pretty much poisonous to the nervous system if misused. I would dare to say these antipsychotics are unproven poisons altogether but that's just my opinion since I used them and only healed after throwing it out and treating my mind the proper way: Laugh, smile, love, sunbathing, meditation, proper sleep, high doses of Vitamin C and Niacin (B2). God bless Abram Hofer for that. His treatment really does work. I'm completely healed and feel so much better. I was a wreck back in the day. I was hearing shit in my head that "didn't belong to me", feared everything, had chronic anxiety all day and felt like a ghost. I hope this helps somebody.

I got a property in Australia and I live in a small section of it and rent out the rest and got a bunch of money from my parent's. It's actually crazy how expensive everything is getting and I'm a landlord. To put it perspective I got it during covid and used to pay 700 a week and get 700 a week in rent and insurance is $1400 a year. Now after 2-3 years it's rented for 850 week and I pay 1050 a week while insurance is now 3600 a year and electricity is 50% more expensive and food is 30% more. I saved up for so long managed to get something and now I got less money at the end of the week than when I worked part time.

I'm not saying he should work or do anything at all... if he is struggling and needs the social security and wants to live that way it's perfectly okay... but Social Security is not the the one causing him to live in a box. They aren't the ones who decide what he can and can't do. They are just responding to what he is demonstrating. He could tell them "hey, I'm feeling better and can handle more", "I want to do this better job". He could show them by how well he handles whatever job he's "allowed" to have. And of course they are going to start paying him less because he is stepping into being more independent and not in need of their help. And I totally don't blame him for not doing that. I've been doing something similar for years. Everyone should be unconditionally supported and free do to as much of as little as they want. I would only encourage him to do what makes him happy. I'm just saying he is free to take those actions and to not be defined by his diagnosis. Social security will stop treating him like he's disabled as soon as ~he~ does. I don't know how hard that must feel to do with schizophrenia. I did have my own mental health crisis, though, and all my symptoms went away the more I chose to believe in the healthy version of myself and act that way. I'm willing to bet schizophrenia gets better the more you live your authentic life. Every day happiness, little by little, will heal and integrate those scattered pieces of psyche, and bring them home. Edit: I kept listening and it sounds like he's doing his thing.

You don’t just stop being disabled because you stop acting like you are that only works if you’re faking it. Disability compensation is made to only give the bare minimum and will be taken away if you make more than what they give you a month, so those that rely on those payments for when they have to go months or years without work at a time are tethered to not working just to maintain health insurance, food assistance, and rent.

Sorry I’m bad at numbers but I didn’t really specify about taxes and working in America with a disability but it gets worse the more money I make from employment. What I’m saying is if I made more than about 2 grand I’d lose SSI (because of VA rating I lost SSDI immediately) and I’d have 1700 before taxes and some employers pay at like super low rates (Walmart) legally to make sure social security payments aren’t effected or break even. I have problems with public environments I’m sure you could imagine with so much bustle and voices without earplugs in a grocery store or public transit wouldn’t be a kind career path in my shoes.

@@lonebridger hey thanks for the reply, I suspected that might be the case! It makes sense. It doesn't make sense to work in McDonald's and lose all the benefits. I found your conversation fascinating. I love that you have used your voice professionally and agree that audio books would be cool (you can set yourself up on audible... But that might be complicated for US taxes, I dunno). You are clearly very intelligent. It's a loss to the economy that you aren't facilitated to work at such a young age, but working in a capital society isn't the only way to stay fulfilled and useful as a human. I'm sorry for the struggles you had in the navy, it sounds like young men are inticed in to be heros. Keep telling your story, would you write a book?

@@dorcasmalorcas writing a book is something other servicemen and women have expressed would be a great avenue for me; however idk if it’s my paranoia or deep seeded fear from hazings that prevents me of putting my experiences down on paper. For instance my last assigned therapist asked for a life synapse as a start. She cried for 10 minutes. A VA therapist sobbed hearing what kind of life I was served and how far I pushed past what it could’ve done to my self-awareness. That’s something that made me really introspective because you gotta have some tough grit to hear the traumas of war and I didn’t notice how painful it was.

@@lonebridger I think the paranoia and fear you describe are very common human feelings. I have two friends who are each writing books about their life stories, but they have been writing for years and still won't let anyone see. In this era where there's so much cancellation culture, it can be even more intimidating. So I think it's very understandable. However evoking emotions in others is not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps that lady cried, not just for you, but because of something in her past she was able to let out. Crying while watching a movie can be a great release. There are many wonderful books about fictional and real topics that are profoundly sad. It could be read by someone with no military background, so they can get an insight. It could be read by people who can identify with the experiences. Your story isn't all sad, it sounds like you have really come through the fog, and your wife sounds like a gem. You could also write under a pen name, which is what I would do if I ever write a book about my life!

The first caller is lying. So when you join the military you go through what is called MEPS. There you were given a medical examination and they look at the previous 10 years of your medical history. For example when I went to MEPS I was refused due to having a traumatic brain injury as a child. Hitting your head on a submarine too many times is not going to lead to brain damage. Especially when it sounds like this guy has only served for 4 years, if he served at all. I also find his claims that he received harassment from people who are so old they're possibly dead. People in the military have careers from around 20 to 40 years until they are told to retire. It's very unlikely that his higher ups from 2016 are now so old they are dead. Also when you're hiring somebody and you run the background check on their social security you don't get a magical alert from the Social Security department saying that someone can't work. If this guy truly is a veteran then he is obviously suffering an episode right now and I truly hope he finds the help he needs.

This is John; MEPS isn’t as perfect as it thinks it is everywhere. They allowed me in with an apricot sized hole of fluid in my femur bone. It wasn’t discovered until I was 24 well after I was medically discharged. Surgeon said I most likely was born with it. Medical Malpractice has been rampant in the branches for a decade if not more. And speaking from experience command master chiefs are old man, I can’t imagine the command master chief that grilled me personally as “a malingering pos” with a “easy out” is still ticking and if they are it’s likely they are disabled too so what’s the point in holding anger to them. That’s why I brought it up finding peace in it ✌️

@@lonebridger That sounds horrible but I don't see how that is a valid criticism of MEPS, well the medical examination is a tad more than an annual physical it doesn't do a full body MRI, and depending on how bad your cyst was you may have still gotten medical approval, The caller also said he joined in 2015, so unless you have master chief in there 70's and 80's I would doubt they died of old age.

Schizophrenia many times, same with bipolar disorder, develops past (even during) the teenage years. Often symptoms can start occurring in the early 20s. Anyone under 35-ish is suspectible if they got the brain chemistry for that.

Schizophrenia often seems to come on out of nowhere, usually when someone is a young adult. There were probably zero symptoms or red flags when he joined, and I'm sure the clowns at MEPS wouldn't have been able to see it anyway. The social security thing is very real too, dunno why you think he's lying about that.

So lemme press; do you have a healthy mind yet refuse to use it, or have a damaged mind and can’t follow how schizophrenia is disabling day by day? Lazy freeloader is a pretty bad generalization of having to take the Navy to court a near decade after medical discharge and them being held responsible for both falsifying documents and aggravating a disability thus are paying compensation through the VA permanently mind you. I didn’t force pills down my mouth and gaslight myself did I? I didn’t write down “condition not disabling” on my separation papers and designation code so filing for benefits would be infinitely more difficult did I? No that was my superiors mistake and cover-up; so the government sees money as a way of fixing those mistakes and transgressions. I personally see it as hush money and a way to keep a thumb on my back but I guess to room temp iq commenters like you it’s a lazy way to live; more power to you. Just try to have some sort of humility and mindfulness in practice next time before you step on people you don’t understand👌 -John
