Hats off to the KEXP sound techs. You guys kill it every time. All new music I find comes from these shows and I’m so grateful I happened to stumble across it. First show I saw was the alt-j show and I watch every new vid which hits my feed. Much love to you all

His snare work is amazing. Very distinctive without being showy. Underrated contributor to The National, and underrated drummer in general. And yeah - I’d never dare sing like Matt, but man he makes it work.

Listening to this during heartbreak and then come back years later after healing is such a profound experience. Wow. Goosebumps is an understatement.

This is the superior version of “Rylan”

Matt has one of the sexiest voices in the world. I only recently discovered The National and am now obsessed. These guys are amazing. Now, more than ever, we need a band like this that reminds us that men have expansive, vast, deep feelings.

Thank you KEXP, being able to see all my favourite artists performing, talking, expressing themselves right in front of me, almost as if I am in that room with them, really feels like a privilege to me.

Their music is so beautiful I could cry

My son's name is Rylan....so needless to say that song hits my heart in a special place. He nearly passed when he was born and he's the light of my life. This song just grabs me and won't let go. I actually saw them in Seattle at the Paramount (twice) this past December in Seattle, they were great as usual. And yes they played Rylan, which made the night for my wife and I. The new album has really grown on me and obviously their older stuff is incredible. My only gripe with the 2 night show in Seattle was that they played most of the same songs the second night....their catalog of material is so deep and so good now they really should just go to a unique setlist every single night and no repeats on back-to-back shows in the same city. That's what the best do and they are more than good enough to do it. Keep up the good work guys.

I've seen that, and I thought to myself that it's a joke. Sleep Well Best might not be The National's best album (Trouble Will Find Me is) but it's definitely 2017's best album.

@@scs7790 They did record it. While mixing Trouble Will Find Me, there was a lot of power outages. It was ultimately taken out from the album and replaced by 'Pink Rabbits' they have been Rylan on and off again on their sets.

his name's kyle resnick. he's a regular touring member for the band

I remember that I watched an interview awhile ago where he said they shared a space in the same rehearsal building as the band Interpol, and he didn’t the band could ever be as “cool” as Interpol because they didn’t have any fancy stage gimmicks, suits and ties, they were all getting into their 30’s, etc. But I think The National is cool in its own way, they’re just normal guys that wanna make music and talk about their lives, and it’s inspiring that everyone has something and even normal people can sometimes make it in the music business if they have talent, you don’t need to look like a typical rock star.

This right here is their best rendition of “Guilty Party”

I've been listening to them for years, but have never seen a live recording of them before. Didn't know they were so affable. Really great to see from a band like this.

I personally prefer the slower, more toned-down version of Rylan, but I'm surprised they were able to successfully insert the heavy drums into it. It sounds vigorous and spirited. The National are fucking brilliant!
