I get literal goosebumps in the first piece, you can feel the sadness that must emit from such a dark place like Kinderheim 511. What’s great is that Chopin and these musicians featured here really made music that Nihilist would listen to. As an emotionally numb person, melancholical piano music is what I sometimes embrace and as we know Johan is also emotionless so this kind of music is the only one really fitting for him.

Not just one of the best anime villains, but one of the best villain in every media possible. Evil beyond measure with a Machiavellian soul tainted in pure black...his voice is angelic and soothing yet behind this facade lies Hell itself.

I loved the artistic significance between "the dance of death" and "clair de lune"! The first one feels like the synopsis of Johan's character: cold hearted, calculated, ruthless, always on the hunt, but also hiding in the shadows. The end of it feels like you have just faced the final boss in a game. And then the entrance of clair de lune? It is the end credits of his life. The sensation of peace one gets when everything is over. Johan might have had a lot of things but eternal peace was never one of them. In the end, were the circumstances around him what created the monster within him? Or was he predestined to become the monster we all learnt? What could have become of him had he grown up in a loving caring household? Is this serenity truly Johan's core character that was forgotten due to the war? Or even, is this serenity existing somewhere in an old dusted box during the show's run in Johan's heart?

Can I just say that I love your comment? 🤗 And yes, that was actually some symbolism behind that... I've concepted this playlist as the manner in which Johan manipulates those around him, as you can see in the description. But I like how people come with their own interpretations, which are usually better. *Long explanation - you can skip it!* At the beginning, he has that intellectual, charismatic and cultivated air around him, which makes people to feel attracted by him. In "Adagio for Strings" it is already created a more intimate relationship, in which Johan isn't only that brilliant student, but also an empathetic and trustul listener. The victim tends to share various traumas or problems with him knowing that he will be listened to, without realizing that in doing so he is actually divulging all his emotional vulnerabilities. For the most part of the next songs the devil can play with his victim as he pleases. After Paganini, the music becomes more turbulent, meaning that the person not only that finds Johan's ideology strange, but also starts to realize he's not that Messiah-like figure at all. But it's too late. At "The Dance of Death" he's either killed, either convinced to commit suicide. And then there begins the final composition, peaceful and sweet, since Johan becomes again the same brilliant student, searching for other victims...

Johan's true advantage was his appearance and the patience of a saint he's had throughout the show. He has already made his plan and he waits for the perfect chance to execute it. Thank you for your kind words too! Johan alongside Dr. Hannibal Lecter were the two "villains" that i couldn't bring myself to hate no matter what (especially Dr. Lecter if you read the novel "Hannibal"). No one can top them in my eyes. Johan is for the anime villains what Dr. Lecter is for the cinematic villains. Unreachable and untouchable. Any other comparison is going to be preposterous. Because they successfully showed that evil always carries the façade and mannerism of an angel. Exceptional manners, humanitarian education, well kept appearance, a warm smile and understanding their victim (but understanding is different than caring) But what both separates them from the rest of villains was their abstract idea of "moral code". For Hannibal was "the destruction of faith" and for Johan was that "only in death we are equal". Both catastrophic and bringing nothing but pain to those around them but foremost to their own soul.

@@roseappunyakul7019 the video is about Johan Liebert, the villain from the anime called "Monster" by Naoki Urasawa. You can read the manga or watch the anime. The story is about Dr. Kenzo Tenma, a Japanese neurosurgeon in Germany who in a crisis of consciousness decides to save a little orphan boy who was shot on the head (little Johan) instead of the Mayor of the city. This could have costed his job, because the director of the hospital was the future father-in-law of Tenma, since he was engaged to his daughter, but "mysteriously" the man is found dead. So Tenma is free to continue his job. Many years later he finds out that the little boy who had saved his life turned out to be a psycho murderer so he goes on a journey to kill him. I recommend this anime 1000% (although the spoilers in the comment section are a lot... please forget what you read and go watch it tabula rasa)

Johan Liebert.... This character's writing by Naoki Urasawa is just..... INCREDIBLE! The depth and complexity of his character is unmatched to almost all of all anime villains that ever existed.... Heck,i feel he may even be one of the best written villains in all of fiction.

@@cocogirl7574 Hello! The difference is not much, there's about 2 chapters per episode and if I'm right they skipped a few chapters at the end of the anime. I recommend reading the manga if you're impatient like me since the anime is quite slow. The manga itself has great art and no wasted dialogue at all!

I absolutely love this villain. Nobody else like him. I wish there was a longer scene of Johan and Nina together, though. I'd have loved that, especially if he was in his costume and she saw him, hahaha. I watched this in dub, and I just love how soft his voice is. We almost never see a such a gentle villain, ever.

Never expected to find this but I'm happy I did! I've only ever been able to watch this anime once in my life because it never aired on tv again after that. My brothers and I religiously watched each episode every week, would stop whatever we were doing and get to the closest tv in the house and watch it. We were so careful to never miss an episode, or we'd be confused and would never get a chance to rewatch it lol. Such a great anime, I wish I could own it and see it again.

I have read manga and animation, and I also bought novels written by other authors authorized by the author. But fans will never know Johan real name. I still love this manga.

I listened to this while reading the last volume of Monster. It took me years and years to finish reading because at first the manga was a gift and I was a bit young and forgot about it for a long time. I enjoyed every details and will recommend this for the rest of my life, truly a masterpiece (now I need to read the other books by this author lol)

I am afraid of Johann. But at the same time, he fascinates me in so many ways.

While listening to this, tears just fell for no reason. I guess I just miss the olden days when life is not as complicated as it is now. It's amazing how music from our past comforts us in the present through the happy memories it brings back. Thank you for this music.

I clicked on this video because I thought the playlist was bound to be something ridiculous as they often are, the same tiktok and youtube amv songs recycled again and again and I thought that combined with the title and the thumbnail was sort of hilarious.
