@@ladygrinningsoul357 I think the end completes the end of the book story, or so suggests the fact that the empty room is framed in the credit's scene at the end. Tenma calls Johan by his true name releasing him from the monster that had possessed him. But this is no naive ending because the boy who had no name also disappears without a trail. The evil was stopped, but the boy of flesh and blood is gone.

I find it crazy how the show reveals so much about Johan to us, and despite it all, it still feels like we barely know who he truly is. There’s no way anyone can truly understand the trauma he went through and how much that affected his life. Only Johan knows what that felt like. It’s out of our comprehension. That’s what makes Johan such a compelling antagonist in my opinion. Monster is such a masterpiece.

Really interesting, thats how i feel when i looked at johan it feels like i know him but i don't know him at the same time. actually i always feel pity for him i mean he don't get enough love, get brainwashed so that means his childhood get stolen by Kinderheim 511, unlike Johan atleast Nina get adopted and feel loved by her parents/friends, Johan intentions from the begining was to kill himself but before he met Tenma he tell Nina to shoot him he say that we are the same person i'm sure it's bcs Johan feel his mother love Nina more than him so it's okay if he died bcs his mother don't really care abt his existence after meet tenma He feel something interesting to play so he make a disaster so That tenma can kill him. yeah, i know he kill people but the people he killed mostly is a bad person and i'm glad that johan still live i meant he deserve to be loved, and it'll be interesting to see him live a normal life

I really like this style of Anime, it is completely different to the stereotypical anime that is generally released, Monster focussed heavily on the story and felt more like a tv show but in anime format, the story of monster and many things within it such as the part with Grimmer when he is leaving and saying something about 'We have to continue even through sins was really powerful. Another anime like Monster is Master Keaton, they are different storylines but they are similar in terms of how they are not your 'stereotypical' animes.

THE MONSTER WITH NO NAME Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a nameless monster. The monster was dying to have a name, so the monster set out on a journey to find one. But the world was a very large place. The monster split into two and went on their way. One monster went East. One went to the West. The monster who went to the East found a village. At the village's entrance there lived a blacksmith. "Mr.Blacksmith, give me your name" said the monster. "I can't give you my name" the blacksmith replied. "In return for giving me your name, I'll go inside of you and make you strong." "Really? If you make me strong, I'll give you my name." The monster went inside the blacksmith. Thus, the monster became, Otto the blacksmith. Otto the blacksmith was the strongest man in the village. But then one day... "Look at me, look at me. The monster inside me is getting so big" He said. Munch-munch, chomp-chomp, gobble-gobble, gulp. The hungry monster ate Otto from the inside out. Once again, he was a monster without a name. When he went inside Hans the shoemaker, however... Munch-munch, chomp-chomp, gobble-gobble, gulp. When he went inside Thomas the hunter, but... Munch-munch, chomp-chomp, gobble-gobble, gulp. The monster was nameless once again. The monster went to a castle to find a nice name. Inside the castle lived a sick boy. "If you give me your name, I'll make you strong." "If you can heal my illness and make me strong. I'll give you my name." The monster went inside the boy. The boy became full of vigor. The king was overjoyed. "The prince is healthy. The prince is healthy." The monster liked the boy's name. He also liked living in the castle. So he restrained himself even though he was hungry. Day after day, he would be terribly hungry, but he restrained himself. But the hunger became just too great. "Look at me. Look at me. The monster inside me has gotten this big," said the boy. The boy devoured the king and and all his servants. Munch-munch, chomp-chomp, gobble-gobble, gulp. Everyone was gone, so the boy went on a journey. He walked for days and days. One day, the boy came upon the monster who had gone west. "I have a name. It's a wonderful name." Said the boy. The monster who went west replied. "I don't need a name. I'm perfectly happy without one, after all, that's what we are--nameless monsters." The boy ate up the monster who went west. At last he had found a name, but there was no longer anyone around to call him by it. Such a shame, because Johan was such a wonderful name.

There's an unusual comfort in the abyss. Johan is suffering tremendously; broken on such an existential level that it carries with it a sort of transcendental beauty. If you've ever been there, the world truly becomes a desolate wasteland. In that emptiness, you are physically free to do whatever you please without hesitation or fear; because there's nothing to lose.

It was perfect wasn't it? How else would you overcome a monster like Johan with anything but love. In the deepest abyss for that poor boy someone who was raised not unlike Johan was there to tell him it was going to be alright. It makes me a bit sad him and Grimmer never meet in the show, as I think this episode parallels him and Johan quite well. It wasn't just a given that every single orphan from kinderheim (tho we know for Johan it was way more than just that place) would grow up to be sociopathic. He represented, like Tenma, a pure opposition to everything Johan wanted people to feel. I think may be the best non-narrative moving episode in the show. I actually get hit with hot tears EVERY time i see milos' little hand clenching grimmer. There's nothing in fiction I can think of that gets me that way every single time, even knowing what's coming.

I used to come to this video nearly everyday through my last highschool year. I’d grab my books, put the headphones on and study for hours and hours. I haven’t watched monster by the time, and the day I finished my finals I finally did! I kept postponing it to watch it without distractions whatsoever, and it was totally worth it! I was so skeptical of my career path: I’ve always wanted to be a doctor but I feared I was not good enough. During ep 34 or so, when Dr.Tenma told the Vietnamese girl that she can be a good doctor played a major rule on how I motivated myself to just do it. Monster is absolutely my favourite anime! Dr.Tenma is so underrated. I’ve never loved a character in my life more than him. He would appear on the screen and my heart would melt. I believe we all have such nihilistic thoughts like Johan at times, and I swear Tenma would wash them away! Till this day, I come back to this video to accompany myself, remember the hardships I went through and feeling Tenma close by. “It’s a long way to go” just speaks to my soul! Perfect music, perfect anime.🤎 To be such a sweet caring doctor like Tenma is the goal.

Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others. They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they've never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. @@Stormwing100 "Johan Liebert is not a sociopath, psychopath, nor he has anti social personality disorder. If anyone bothers to look it up, you will know that I'm telling the truth. The key and common symptoms of all these is lack of empathy and engagement in reckless behavior. Which he doesn't, you can see that he is driven by a goal, and can control himself easily. He isn't reckless, he is calm and can aim for long term goals, which all above can't. He also is capable of empathy, great at it for that matter, but to answer that one must answer what is empathy. Empathy is this the ability to feel exactly how another person feels, although you may never experienced it yourself. It is by empathy how he managed to manipulate people. He knows how another person feels, which comes in handy. Also, those tears when he talked with Karl were real. He is able to relate to the experience and therefore cried. People might connect empathy and good people together, but that is not true. Johan Liebert isn't “pure evil”. No such thing exist actually. He is all grey. Just like Professor Snape if you watch Harry potter. He cares for anna, his twin sister, and on a certain matter he cares for doctor Tenma as well. Just finished this masterpiece today . I love berserk but I’ve never ever seen such an anime that’s grounded in reality and may happen in real life . This anime hit close…to living life itself. I’ve dealt with some evil aspects of Johan in people themselves. And I’ve encountered good aspects of people as well. Seeing this anime just made me see how lifelike it is to humanity itself. It felt so raw and true. Human nature is beautiful yet terrifying and this anime perfectly captures that. Also I find this interesting how Johan and Griffith from berserk have similar traits. Both awakened a monster within themselves. Also I can reference as to how Dr. Temna is like Guts in a sense. He goes through humanity’s lowest and see the shittiest parts of it yet…he still keeps his humanity. Nina is Casca who goes through trauma (the eclipse for casca and for Nina = her horrible and traumatic childhood) and manages to be a survivor from it. Like casca’s thorned heart, Nina is the same. As time passes , both of their thorned hearts slowly heal despite it all. This fucking anime is AMAZING MAN

the most beautiful part of monster is how Johan didn't "win" by making Tenma into a monster, yet he still won by showing that people can become whatever they want to be. In us is our true willpower to be a good person or bad

At last, he had found a name, but there was no longer anyone to call him by it. Such a shame. Because Johan was such a wonderful name. What do you see when you look into my eyes? I was born in a town. That was straight out of a fairytale. Many people die there. And when I walked away, I held hand with my other self to me. It seemed like we were the only two people in the world. Neither one of us possessed a real name.

Everyone is talking about Johann, but nodoby talk about Tenma, make analyse on him etc. This is why the monster took his name. Nobody care about good people, everybody seems to think Tenma is a 'normal hero' for a show, but he is not. He is not because nobody support guys like Tenma in real life. In real life, nobodies will help him, everybodies will watch the news and call him a murderer. Do you understand? Nobody will risk his life to help good people at price of his own life. People, seems more close to Johann than Tenma, this is why everybody talking about him and this is why evil is everywhere. Look at Covid situation..
