The Myths & Urban Legends of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Ойындар
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a rabbit-hole when it comes to its myths and urban legends, so I decided to take some time to dive into those. What is it that makes, what is in essence, nonsense so compelling when it comes to the "ye olde" 3D GTA games? Today we shall ponder over this thought. Enjoy.

I like the lack of fog, you actually get to see some scenery. The map already felt small, because it is. You can travel it in mere minutes. The fog is just messing with people and they're falling for it. The game doesn't do a very good job of hiding it, you bring up the map in-game and you can see how condensed it is.

I remember shortly after GTA San Andreas came out for the PS2, I saw rumors on the PlaystationUnderground message boards that bigfoot was in the game. My friends and I spent hours and hours hunting for bigfoot by air and by land in the console co-op multiplayer. Even though the rumors weren't true it was still a lot of fun. Glad you're covering this fun little fragment of gaming history, back when gaming still had a little bit of mystery to it. Between that and the "Hot Coffee" controversy, I'm not sure which one was crazier.
@CryptidRenfri

Bigfoot was what got my interest playing it as a kid. I couldn't care less about the Hot Coffee Mod lol. I also spent most of my time in the game (probably easily hundreds upon hundreds of hours) looking for bigfoot and other strange things in the more remote parts of the map
@CryptidRenfri

KZread videos were what got me on Bigfoots trail though. I can't remember the channels but they were damn convincing lol
Here's an explanation to why those Glendales are believed to be haunted or just weird in general. Due to hardware limitations, the game could not spawn cars that already had damaged panels, and to solve this problem, rockstar had to make a separate model which LOOKED damaged, but in reality wasn't. This is the reason why you cannot repair the cars, and why they're referred as "glen---t" in the files. The reason why you can see them roll around by themselves is due to how the game engine works. You see, when you get close to their spawn point, the game spawns the cars slightly above the ground, and since they spawn on a slope, they simply start rolling down to the bottom of it.
Players finding a myth online : "awwh it was a myth." Modders:"Say no more fam"
The Ghost Glendale car, from what I remember from way back when, I read somewhere that the reason why I appears out of nowhere, its for the player to use in case they end up in the woods far in, and they need to quick ride to leave if your going for a 100% completion without cheats... not my words
Great video. Just have a few things to add: For the ghost cars myth, while the myth originated from the fact that these cars would often spawn on a slope and thus roll downhill that people mistook for self-driving, the legend exaggerated this by claiming these driverless cars could "come alive" and attempt to run the player over. In fact, I don't know what channel it was, but I once even saw video of what was likely a mod of this occurring. As for San Fierro, there's an actually existing ship horn that can be heard during heavy fog at least in the original SA. Moreover, I personally remember experiencing it during my playthrough of SA all the way back and the nearby pedestrians appeared to start panicking when the horn was sounded. I personally found that experience fairly creepy so I feel it could've been an honourable mention.

I swear i saw a UFO in Bone County. I remember it clearly. It was on a PS2. It flew by overhead and was gone really quickly because of the very limited view distance. I know there is no UFO model except the one from the Lil Probe Inn, but it would be technically possible for the devs to hide it in code without leaving a trace in the Game files. And it would be the perfect Rockstar prank to make it such a rare occurance that no one would believe the players who actually saw it.

Im firmly under the understanding this all was a result of youtube. People in the early days of youtube would do anything for views in the pursuit of clout rather than money, and GTA SA being the most recent GTA to release when YT started building steam made it the ideal target for this kind of myth making. That Rockstar made such a complex and interesting world made it the perfect storm for this sort of thing. An interesting cultural intersection if ever there was one.
The ghost cars in flint county is just the game spawning a car if your stranded. They move because they spawn on hills and start rolling

in what way was gta san andreas good story telling? cj: i heard about mom dying, i came back as quick as i could sweet: fool! you ran away! you're a coward and a disgrace to the hood! cj: hey, i want to try and do what's right for the hood man what we got goin on? sweet: fool you ain't fit for the hood no more after you ran away and left us all here so you could life life at liberty city cj: hey, i saved a musician and we have a mansion we could all hang out at while we work on fixing the hood like it should be. sweet: i don't need a fancy mansion when i have the hood that i call home, and you left anyways so why do you care about it now when you are a disgrace? cj: i killed Ryder and big smoke because of what they did to mom, i took down crash and singlehandedly put us on top in the turf wars against the ballas and vagos, i have done everything i can do for the hood but i feel like we can do more together. sweet: you've never cared about the hood and you running away proves that, everything you've done has been meaningless leading up to this point. now come on only i can lead us back into our prime so lets get to work while you're still a disgrace to the hood, maybe we can redeem you. the writing was so fucking bad that at no point did i enjoy it. i could tell big smoke was a traitor from the first few missions involving him, and i hated the hell out of sweet to the point i was hoping he would die somewhere in the story so i could get away from his annoying shit of constantly bitching about how cj left to go cope with his brothers death in his own way. his busta ass always putting cj down despite all the shit cj does to make up for what happened and to prove to sweet that he cares for not only him and his sister but for the hood as well. and when they have a chance to live better lives, can finally get out of a ghetto ass hood and live a life of comfort sweet still has audacity to say that the hood is the only place for him and that he will never leave it for anything. like bro what the fuck? sweet would rather live a life of being a petty ass criminal instead of cleaning up his act and taking the opportunity to join regular society? the gameplay was great but the story was a fucking joke and is easily the weakest in the entire series. normally i would say GTA V had the weakest story but i at least enjoyed it, i at least had moments i laughed and got really interested. at no point in san andreas did i feel any attachment to anyone besides maybe the guy cj's sister is dating because he actually takes care of cj and goes out of his way risking his life to show him the proof of the green saber and even does what he can to protect cj's sister from harm. like really what point of the story was i suppose to enjoy? was i suppose to laugh at how stupid OG Loke was? or was i suppose to be entertained by ryder and his schitzo schemes? was i suppose to enjoy smoke always having that better than thou attitude? was i suppose to care about sweet despite how much he dunks on cj? like I'm asking for real at what point i was suppose to care about the story and any of the characters? give my one instance of where exactly i was suppose to care about anyone or anything going on because for the life of me i cannot recall a single time where i felt invested other than the reveal of the green saber and being vindicated that i knew smoke was a filthy traitor.

The Mount Chiliad Angel is just multiple flat cloud textures intersecting in an * form, making them appear as an angel from some angles. Another interesting misplaced NPC encounter in Mount Chiliad is the "Bike Trail Travelers". NPCs ranging from cyclists to trucks traveling down the Mount Chiliad bike trail. From what I recall, the best way to see the NPCs was to use the jetpack, otherwise the NPCs would despawn if you let them out of sight. I also remember the good old days of watching cfox306's myth videos. Ah, the myths, my favorite part of the game! I remember when I was a kid and I'd watch obviously fake myth videos for hours on end, partially because of the myths themselves, but also because of the music, it's actually how I found out about bands like MCR and Linkin Park, good times :)

@@DrSpaceman69 I didn't say anything about Data mining though? Data mining has been standardised as a process on computers since 1999, data mining isn't also limited to games, it handles all data. But it probably wasn't until the 2010's that it was widely used to probe video games. This is all according to the internet btw. But regardless, gaming talk was mostly by word of mouth or by gaming forums online. Myths and rumours could gestate because nobody could disprove it. Nowadays that isn't possible, every single thing is documented with video proof, and data mining and file exploration can easily prove or disprove everything. Plus gamers are just way more aware of the process of gaming, and many more people watch KZread and interact on things like Reddit which even further removes mystery from games. Should’ve mentioned the Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) in Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare. And the trophy/achievement attached to them ‘Six Years In The Making’ which is directly tied to the Bigfoot myth in San Andreas.
Man I wast starting middle school back when this game came out and my god its almost 20 years old now. Not to mention the memes this game spawned for generations of players past present and future. I remember hearing about the myths way back in the day too. Especially with the ghosts and big foot too. Now Im 30 and this game is literally on the door step of 20 years old now :O
I used to have odd dreams about some of the myths from San Andreas. They were something else back in the day.
I guess it's just my luck with the shark then, had no idea they were rare. I was horrified of sharks as a kid and hated going in any body of water in a video game where you could encounter them, and ran into one very early on. I ended up grinding up my lung capacity in a swimming pool when the game required you to do so.
39:00 seeing as there is a bridge that looks like the San Francisco bridge in the background. This might not be a lighthouse. It might be a reference to the island battleship were they installed 14 inch guns on island to protect the harbor
I wish I could say San Andreas is for me one of the best GTA games. I just recall that the parody and weird crap went so OTT that it took me out of the experience. GTA IV is not without its flaws either - and oh yes it has many - but yo me is the top GTA in terms of narrative and even gameplay.
A blockbuster video game like GTA:SA that emulates real-life iconic places provides people the opportunity to myth hunt on their own from the comfort of their own homes. Doing so in real life is very time consuming, uncomfortable, expensive, and fruitless.
5:06 thanks for clarifying
46:18 about that myth - during the missions "Interdiction", you can actually find that priest while descending Arco del Oeste. Normally, it'd be hard given that police is after the player, but when putting in the cheats for lack of wanted level, you can examine him more closely.
I wonder if GTA San Andreas was one of if not the last bastion of games where people just... made shit up about it. Rumors and myths persist in other games to this day, but it really feels as though every square inch of this world had something that someone made up about it. I only played San Andreas for the first time a few years ago, but I was so hooked on those myth videos that the X-Files music still makes me think of people looking for Nessie in SA.
The Bigfoot myth messes with my head because it’s some sort of Mandela effect for me. I 100% found him in the game when I was a kid. Before I had even heard of the myth. I don’t even believe in the Mandela effect but I can’t explain how Bigfoot was definitely in the game if he apparently never was.

Big thing to remember is peoples memories are shit. My guess is you played a diffrent game before and the memories have blurred or somthing like that. I had something similar in gta san andreas i saw something move across the top of a hill. took me ages to realize at the exact spot the ghost traffic( the low poly fakes ones) would load on a road in the distance and it was one of those cars i had seen moving for a split second.
A note about the headless man is that there is a glitch that allows CJ to walk around without his head. You just need to activate co-op mode and have player two decapitate him with a katana. Once he respawns he'll be headless.
has it aged well ? no, but to be around back then. it was thegame. You see that car? You like it? Throw the npc out onto the cold hard ground and take it, it's yours . we also got boats, bikes, planes, helicopters, if its not a scrapyard crane you can drive it. even tower cranes! the world was huge and varied for the time, though it looks tiny now.
The green fog is real... sort of. Basically the original PC version of the game has a setting that allows you to play the game at a 16 bit color config, meaning some colors won't be able to render properly, mainly particle effects which will have a green tint to them, fog is part of these effects and well.. you get green fog

No that the guy who lives all the way near Beaver Hollow. There’s noises all the way near Wallace station.
It surprises me that to this day people still think that the chainsaw killer is a myth. It’s actually real, I’ve never seen it at the lake but I’ve seen it at the place with cabins. It’s kind of rare to see him but not impossible. He’s spawned twice for me, it’s definitely harder to kill than any other npc and has a health bar once he spawns. I was like 12 when I first found him and I remember losing my shit, I couldn’t believe it was real 😂
45:50 those body bags are most likely the doings of the mafia, There was some media released by Rockstar in which they show some mafia members there taking care of some corpses. It is most likely the corpse of the sindacco family guy who would have run the caligula's casion but Salvatore asked the sindacco guy to get rid of him.

'Tis I who hunt the clowns
Also are they any encounters you've had in san andreas that were weird whether any in the video or other, comment down below👇🏼
Even those most of these wound up being (disappointingly) fake this video is very interesting
GTA Myths wiki is such a treasure trove. Everything you can think of is a myth in San Andreas and people reported seeing it lol
I remember tricking a friend into thinking I found a UFO near the desert area. Even took pictures with the in game camera. All I did was activate the no gravity/floating cars cheat code on vehicles and snapped a photo.
i like how most of these are only proven only after mods were installed...
I remember when I was about 15 or 16 I tried to add one of the publicly available Big Foot mods to GTA SA, and it ended up breaking the game causing it to crash upon loading up. I think I considered screencapping it and posting it to KZread at the time if it worked, and I believe I had to reinstall the game out of frustration when it immediately broke it. Even more frustrating considering that I had a bunch of other mods installed on that copy. Ahh ... good times.
The only one that i’ve ever encountered is the sniper in Red county…i never saw them however i went on the farm and was immediately shot and killed by what sounded like a sniper. It only ever happened once and no matter how many times i went back it never happened again
Yesss perfect timing for uk viewers ❤️❤️
