Now to be fair this is just one of many tellings of this myth, others include him killing his guests and stealing there stuff is why Zeus sent Thanatos after him. Greek myths have many different versions depending on who tells them and what agenda they have for telling them.

The moral of a Greek Mythology is that life isn't fair. This man witnessed a kidnapping, and went to tell the victims father, but knowing he could improve the lives of his people bartered the information and saved many lives and improved many more. And for that, he was to die, seeing his fate, he fought and defeated death for his death was undeserved. And for this, he would be killed. Only now died he truly betray the God's, he lied to return to the world of living where he spent his life a happy man with his wife and children. And for that, he was to be tormented for all eternity. Moral, life isn't fair, don't expect it to be.

But that's not correct either, these are being, this isn't the cause of science coincidence or nature. These are being who are just as at fault for any crime they commit as any human. To put the story as "life is unfair" would I'm my eyes be alert down. The moral should be, "strive for better, for only those who fail and stand back up, ever change destiny" And sysiphus changed it many times. But that's just me

That's because you view the divine as a childish representation of absolute good versus absolute evil. Old religions had gods that were more like humans, except in their immortality. Not everything a god did was divine and worthy of worship. not everything a hero did was heroic and worthy of praise.

Susyphus has always been one of my favorite Greek Mythological Figure, man evaded death 2 and even kidnapped Death himself. Also loved that one of his descendants is Odysseus, my actual favorite.

the version i've heard before is slightly different, one is that it was Persephone that let him back out for the "my wife is being mean to me" lie and secondly is that when he finally came back he tried to trick them again and was told that if he could get the rock to the top of the hill he will get immortality-- which is why he won't give up on pushing it up.

In an alternative epilogue Sisyphus devised his ultimate thumbing of nose to the gods. Instead of brooding over his fate, he view his torment as an opportunity. He tried different forms to push the boulder uphill, he tried to beat his previous record, he used his seemingly pointless task a a means of contemplation and meditation. And when the boulder inevitably rolled downhill, Sisyphus could be seen joyfully strolling ready to embrace his eternal destiny.

Lol it didn’t die though, a lot of people (i think over 1 million in the US alone) believe this. Also, the gods/goddesses often embody flaws in humanity, such as jealousy, lust, anger, etc. So Zeus’s actions were wrong, but expected.

A fun fact: It was Prometheus who tricked Sisyphus into pushing the rock. He told him that if he manages to roll the rock on top of the hill, then he will gain immortality but under 1 condition which was he could never give up. The titan prometheus made it on purpose that he could push the rock to nearly the very end but would not have enough strengh for the final push.

At least he has good ole' Bouldy to keep him company for eternity!

I though the reason that Zeus ordered his death was because Sisyphus kept pulling a walder frey snd killing his guests. Which really bothered Zeus because he big on the whole guest rights thing.

He may have to suffer for all eternity but for the precious few years of life he had, he lived them on his own terms and they can't take that away from him.

Exactly! To appreciate life, whether our own or that of others, we have to understand death. Meanwhile, Camus thought that life is pointless and that "...one can only imagine that Sisyphus is happy" with his condemnation. Honestly, I not only CAN'T imagine that, but I can't understand how educational groups like TED-Ed can even have respect that kind of philosophy! Camus is basically saying their is no difference between saving a life and taking one, that people aren't any better off for doing one or the other! It's pretty disgusting, if you ask me.

I have a theory that Sisyphus has a plan still, he knows that if he rolls the boulder up the hill enough times, the rock will wear against the hill or vice versa, and one day he'll either complete his task when the boulder is small enough to carry in hand, or when the hill is flattened, either that he's gonna pull the ultimate jail break with an un-erodible boulder and use it to wear away at the walls of the underworld until he's out

Kind of wish the video brought how Sisyphus would break the rules of hospitality by murdering his guests in their sleep and steal their treasures. Because when I first watched this video, I ended up feeling sorry for him in the end despite his bold attempts at cheating death because I was just thinking Zeus was being an asshole.

Are you kidding? That river god stood no chance against the king of the gods. He didn't even manage to save his daughter.

Hades was kinda like Rumplestiltskin when he made deals with people sometimes he keep them or he did not keep his part of the bargain like Persephone he promised Demeter she would be back but she ate the pomegranate and ended staying there so Hades basically lied to Demeter

This is a nice prologue

Sorry I never new this was wondering how that came to be because when I was a child my father painted a picture of it as an abstract

Sisyphus the wise man who exposes the immorality of the Olympian stock, and who's wisdom is easily capable of beguiling those foolish arrogant Gods, and who's father is Prometheus guardian of the mother Goddess flame. The wheel of time is turning and that rock won't be rolling back down the hill forever.

To become wise one must adhere to the practices of the ancient wisdom schools. Zeus desires that Sisyphus and what he represents be removed to the underworld which is known today as the etheric realms, symbolically the rock rolling punishment discloses that the desires of sisyphus will never be fulfilled presumably his desires would be the ascendancy of his philosophy or credo, unfortunately for Zeus the evolution of man is not static the next age is just around the corner.

@@DodirAnelaIntuitivnoOtvaranje It's not made up the players are real. Zeus has been known by many different names including Baal, Yahweh, Ahriman, Jupiter, Satan.

Thanathos is the one I cosplayed in my English class.
