What a great country Italia is… where the best ever sound composer, Ennio Morricone and the best ever movie director Sergio Leone came from the same elementary school and same class.

My dad was a commando in WW2 (8th Army, 9 Commando) he saw active service in North Africa, Italy and Greece. When he retired my mum and dad moved to Exmouth in Devon. Close to CTCRM (Commando Training Centre Royal Marines) Limpstone. My dad was a very quiet, unassuming man who did not garner public adoration. But when he passed away I was very surprised to see probably around 30 serving Marines attend his funeral. They came to honour an old soldier who'd served over 50 years previously. Marines are in a league of their own.

I'm italian. Sometimes I think about what was the feeling and the thinkink of those young boys who are involved in the second world war. A great sacrifice. A fortune is to be safe and to get older after that period of crazyness. Thanks to your father and the others. Imagine like also me was at his funeral, I was with my heart 👋

It is sad that it did not get the recognition back then that it enjoys now. Ennio Morricone was a genius and ahead of his time. The Good, The Bad and the Ugly was not well received in the US when it first came out. Now it is a world wide cult film. Sergio Leone chose Morricone to score the films and let the music tell the story since there was little dialogue.

@@maryleone2023 Yes, it is very sad. The US could not accept a western done by others that was better than what they made. It was the movie going public that saw the genius of Morricone and Leone. In a different time films like GBU would have won Academy Awards. Morricone should have won at several Academy Awards prior to The Hateful Eight. The Mission, The Untouchables, Battle of Algiers, Once Upon A Time in the West, Bugsy. And there are several more that should have been nominated. A friend of mine has visited Europe many times and he said many cafes and restaurants have trios or piano players, or violinists who play Morricone music for people to listen to as they dine. He was a genius and we are fortunate they they still release his music today.

@@garfieldsmith332 Yes, it was unaccetable that "Spaghetti Western" were actualy better than most films made by the "Yanks" and hence they were regarded as B-movies and held back until the audience realized what the truth was and finaly they started shinning as deserved; Ennio Morricone just spread that magic over those films and made them all eternal for us to enjoy.

Marines are magnificent. My uncle stormed the beaches of Peleliu Island (Macarthur was taking back the Phillipines) losing an arm & awarded the purple heart. He was always grateful to have one arm left he said! 1st Division Marine Corp suffered 6,500 casualties but won the day. What utter guts! Think about that number & not giving in. When he died 60+ yrs later a full contingent arrived draping the coffin in the flag & carried him out. Marines never forget their fellow warriors. Fierce in battle but superb gentle men in peacetime. If your lucky enough to have one as a neighbour know that you are safe. Marines are the finest men God put on this earth. Balls of steel. Let`s hear it for the Marines.

This why the British army is so good. Most have been on active service and have served (going by the medals) But then can still pump this out! And it was amazing to hear! X Big up UK armed forces X.

I don't think that's true that most have been on 'active service'. They are primarily musicians. They will earn medals for performing important duties, which are not necessarily battlefield-related.

Somewhere, far up in the rafters, a dapper old man, with a certain familiar look about him, although you can't quite work out why, looks down upon this exhibition of musical genius, and he smiles. He knows these pieces pretty well, after all...

To my uneducated ears the Bands of H.M. Royal Marines seem to have brought a very clean crisp and precise interpretation of this music to the fore., and I like it. As others have remarked the vocalists gave a particularly fine performance but the whole thing is splendid.

@@knerduno5942 The Royal Marines don't have "Private" as a rank, as an aside. You're a Marine, at the least, and PFC isn't a thing. As for the RMBS, the musicians in white short-sleeves are, well, Musicians, as best as I could see. That's their rank. And other than that, I don't think I saw anyone that was less than a Band Corporal.

@@mooneyes2k478 At 02:18. The guitar player has a single stripe. Okay, I see that as Lance Corporal. And the two corporals playing the trumpet looks up in the years. I don't know about the UK, but in the US if you do not reach certain ranks in a certain amount of time, you are subject to "QMP," which means the boot.
