She is PRECIOUS. O'Connell's dragged out of a cell, in a 1920's Egyptian prison, and her first remark is "Ooh! you grew your hair out!" Such innocence.
This movie is a classic because it has so many great elements working together. Great characters (handsome, smart, funny), great sets, humorous and scary parts, and the VFX on the mummy are still pretty good. Love me a good adventure film like this.
This movie was filmed in a very old-fashioned style in that no one is actually seen dying (except for the mummy at the end). All the deaths are represented by screams from off-camera or as shadows on the wall which is very much in the style of old-time monster movies. All of the horror is left to your imagination. A very nice salute to the original horror genre by Stephen Somers.

no one considered important was actually seen dying, if you were a rando you were seen dying all the time.
Winston: I wish I went down with all the other laddies instead sitting here dying of boredom and booze" I hope I got that line right. Winston: HERE I COME LADDIES! AHAHAHAHAHA! Winston knew he was about to die, and was happy about it because he was going to join all his friends. Then died with a smile on his face. Probably one of the biggest overlooked side plots in this movie. Really touching honestly.

I agree completely. This was all Winston wanted: dying heroically and meeting up with the lads who were waiting for him on the other side and saying "Let me tell you about my last adventure!" That smile on his face said it all. Rest in Peace Winston, you legend!

Yes, Returns was the shit! Me and my friends still quote these movies to this day. Just the other night playing Halo I was holding down a hallway with a friend while our teammates capped the flag, I told them to hurry up and they replied "patience is a virtue" to which I had to throw out "not right now it isn't" Good stuff these movies. Such good memories watching this as a kid. The theater was Egyptian themed, so it really added to immersion. Everyone watching really got into the movie and burst into applause at the end.
11:45-11:55 Addie's expression when learning about mummification was priceless. Great reaction as usual! This movie is great- scary, funny, campy, adventurous. It was the next generation's Indiana Jones.
No other films give the feeling that Indiana Jones did it embodies that sense of adventure peril and slight silliness. Brendan Fraser is a Treasure.

The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evy described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission: they used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the rain brained out when they were rolled over). And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie.
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, and very nostalgic now. An exciting adventure with some mystery, well-defined characters, some scary parts for chidren but not too scary, some funny scenes but done in a way that the humor doesn't detract from the action, the main characters are likeable, etc. It is well-rounded overall, I would say. Just light enough so that it's fun but doesn't feel too silly. Also Rachel Weisz is just gorgeous, I had a big crush on her when I was a kid due to this film.
Watching this a second time- without worrying when you’ll be scared- you’ll appreciate a lot more of the humor
Addie, it's on point that this reminded you of Indiana Jones. From what I understand, this film was initially conceived and written as a reboot of the old-school mummy monster horror movies (film cousins to the movies featuring Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman). However, the project didn't gain any traction until it was re-envisioned as more of an action adventure film in the style of -- you guessed it -- Indiana Jones.

"Just yell at each other" Me: damn. She cracked the man code.
Such a great movie where all the lead characters all contribute to the success of the adventure, even Johnathan, who I loved for his ridiculous sense of humor and his overwhelming tendency to do the wrong thing at the wrong time yet have it somehow work out well. 😀 It is absolutely a Halloween season movie too as it gives the scares and the excitement and fun. They survived the tricks and ended up with some treats. What could be more Halloween?
The "Mummy" gets less visually scary as he kills people but he is still... dangerous. That said I found this movie entertaining when I saw it, not exactly scary but a fun movie to watch. Definitely enjoyed watching yo react to it, keep the great reactions coming Addie. Look forward to your next one.
My late wife Debbie and I viewed this one upon its original theatrical release, and since I currently own the DVD trilogy (including the Tom Cruise version and all of the 1930s through '50s franchise issues), this probably bewrays my very strong interest in the entire series. Debs worked for a time @ a CPA firm in which Brendan Fraser was a client and she acquired his autograph right around the time this film was issued, so that's one of my inherited (and somewhat prized) possessions of hers.
I honestly never get tired of this movie! My favorite scene has to be ... Bennie: "Hey, O'Connell! Looks to me like I've got all the horses!!" Rick: "Hey, Bennie! Looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the river!!" Bennie (looking around) %#@!!!! I love when reactors include this scene! I'm happy you enjoyed and watched this! Take care, Addie!!

This is one of the movies I can rewatch and rewatch and still love every time. I even named my cat after my favourite movie librarian, Evie. 😆 Edit: It's funny hearing it described as scary, when - perhaps because I have seen it for so long - I just view it as action/adventure. But then... there are some parts that are nicely creepy. And some jump scares.... huh. 🤷🤣
Fun fact, the scenes where Eveline was in a nightgown they had to go back in post production to...color in some things because the gown was more shear than they realized. They only noticed after those scenes were already all shot.
This is a case where The Mummy Returns is just as fun as the Mummy. You should definitely check that out as well.
Winston died the way he wanted to, and with a huge smile on his face. 😁
6:03 fun fact for those that don’t know he was actually hung and at the very end of the scene he passed out, but in this entire scene it’s mind blowing to think he’s actually being hung. They loosened up the knots, and they didn’t make them as powerful However he still got dropped.
Fun (?) fact: Brendan Fraser really was choking out in the hanging scene. Only quick action by the crew saved his life.
"A lot of mummies working for him" xD

This franchise did ruin his body. He's got injuries that he never fully recovered from. And that damn near killed his acting career. On top of his physical health he took some serious mental and emotional abuse because his then wife couldn't deal with him not acting through his physical recovery so she put him through a nightmare of a divorce for years.
I love, love, love, LOVE The Mummy! I crushed hard on Rachel Weisz when this came out, and the music, by the late/great Jerry Goldsmith, is some of his best work! I bought the entire soundtrack years ago. I love the closing credits with that score - so sweeping and romantic - playing over the images Egyptian ruins and hieroglyphics spelling out the actor's names. Just a wonderful homage to classic film (and even classic radio) that isn't done much anymore. The second movie is noticeably weaker, and I think their big mistake was jumping ahead 10 years, from 1922 to 1932, and inserting a kid into the action. They also wrote the movie with a kid in mind, which made it seem childish at times. If I had control over the franchise and had the actors signed to a three-film deal, I would have given O'Connell and the gang a different adventure in the second film, set some time around, say, 1925-27, and then a final film with a plot similar to the Mummy Returns, now with the kid, but written better. Write the kid the way kids were written in movies like The Goonies.

LOVE THIS MOVIE!! So much better than the god awful 2017 Tom Cruise reboot that supposed to be the start of The Dark Universe, which is Universal's version of the MCU but with classic monsters. Anyway, in the early '90's, Wes Craven, John Landis, John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Clive Barker, Mick Garris, Joe Dante and George Romero were considered for directing the movie, until Stephen Sommers, a fan of the original, was picked after his last film DEEP RISING, bombed at the box office in 1998. Before Brendan Fraser was cast as the hero, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt were considered. The film was a box office and critical success, making $420 million dollars against a $75 million dollar budget.

So many great memories I have with this movie! I was like 7 when it first came to theaters and have been drawn into action adventure movie genres since. Plus the sequel “The Mummy Returns” is The Rock’s first debut in Hollywood during his time as a professional wrestler in WWE.
It just occurred to me that the dude's bad eyesight is why he thinks Evelyn is Anck-Su-Namun.
Little movie fact (which I'm sure someone has pointed out already): When Benny goes through all of his religious pendants around his neck, when he gets to the David's Star (the Jewish one), he starts speaking in Hebrew; the Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians for 5,000 years, so Imhotep recognizes the language that the slaves that he saw spoke in his original life
Brendan almost died in the hanging scene. First two are classic Indiana Jones-esque films. The third film and spin-offs exist.
I was legally blind by the age of 11. The scene of the guy with the broken glasses was absolutely my worst fear for the longest time after watching this movie
Hi Addie! I really like this movie! It's one of the rare adventure films that executes the Indiana Jones formula well! If you enjoy movies like this, check out Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.
Horses beat camels easily on solid ground, but hooves are way less effective on desert sand. Camels adapted to the desert with wider feet that spread their weight, so they don't struggle like horses will.
This still remains as my #1 favorite mummy movie, especially since it started my love for Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, and Oded Fehr.
The fact that Rick would have still grabbed benny and pulled him free after all that shows the nobility of the character, cant say I would have been so noble myself lol great reaction!
"This thing came back!" And it brought all it's friends!
10:05 Horses (up to 88 km/h or 54.7 mp/h) are faster than camels, however camels are still fast and can reach up to 65 km/h (about 40 mp/h)

Respect for the teacher who made you watch this movie in school, ahahah. 6:07 - And remember that Brendan Fraser did his own stunts. What a man! 9:16 - During the '80s my father worked for many years in North Africa. He told me that one day a man tried to trade 20 camels for my sister... Appearently it was a real thing. 25:41 - In reality there is no recorded quicksand in Egypt.
"does he not like cats or music? Is it the cats or the music? Oh it was the cats"

I LOVE this movie so much. It is just so much fun. "Hey Benny, You're on the wrong side of the riiii verrrrr!" 😂😂😂
4:00 The Domino book shelf gag is a real old vaudeville joke. I actually tried to make this happen in a real library once. I pushed really really hard on the top shelf library shelf. Guess what happened... Nothing. I busted the myth so fast make your head swim. There's a reason why this can never happen in a library. All those shelves are bolted down tight to the floor to the point where the floor is part of the shelf. If you ever managed to push yourself down it's because the floor would be rotted. If they all collapse that means the floor needs replaced anyway. Either that or the people who put the shelves up or incompetent and didn't anchor them to the floor. But in a lottery that big and old all the shells have been bolted to the floor. So if he really wants to blame anybody he really should blame himself. Because he's the curator of the library which makes the shelves his responsibility. If he didn't bolt them to the floor it's not her fault they collapsed.

Fun Fact. The 1999 remake of 'The Mummy' is much loved by tabletop gamers , partly because it's just plain fun, but also because it's a terrific example of a classic Dungeons & Dragons dungeon crawl, but set in the early 20th Century. The later remake with Tom Cruise takes itself far too seriously.

After nearly 20 years of the action adventure genre which mix 'hardcore' action, a bit of gore and lot's of comedic quips, The Mummy was right in line with the classics from the 80's. Watching Addie cringe with dread left me wondering if most young people whom didn't have my experiences growing up felt the same. I will admit this one is a bit more 'horror' than the following entries while all 3 have been in my watch rotation since release. Evie isn't frightened by anything other than Mr. O'Connell's manners though. Because I enjoyed Stephen Sommer's approach to these stories - Van Helsing also joined my watch list.

Fantastic movie. Good old fashioned adventure. A modern classic. Love your reaction!
If you want a "serious" Horror Mummy movie, you will probably have to check out the Hammer films with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Also, of course, the original Mummy film, from 1932 with Boris Karloff, is also a serious Mummy film. It's not a Horror film in terms of big scares and gore but it's a really spooky, atmospheric, early-Horror film, with a romantic angle. Boris Karloff is legendary in it, for sure. Zita Johann is great as Helen Grovner/Princess Ankh-esen-amun. I highly recommend the 1932 film as a creepy Halloween film to watch! Also, my guilty pleasure is the 2017 Tom Cruise vehicle, The Mummy. It's really fun and it's got a few good scares. It's not a serious Horror film but it has good Horror elements and Sofia Boutella is great in the titular role.
Camels are not faster than horses, but horse's hooves are not made for running on sand, so camels have the advantage in a desert race.
I loved these movies! The only one that sucked was the 3rd one because Rachel Weisz wasn't in it.
