The craziest thing is that there was and still is a house just across the street on Manor Road. at the end of runway 31L that was occupied when Robert Mueller Municipal airport was in full operation. The American Airlines DC-10s were the most exciting to watch on what seemed to be such a short field for a jumbo jet. Long before the current security, as a kid I used to be able to walk up to the terminal and plane spot for hours. American Airlines used to powerback MD80s from their gates. Southwest Airlines briefly had 727-200 tri-jet service to and from Robert Mueller Municipal during the 1980s.

I remember the DC-10s well, I used to walk to the end of the runway at the fence near the I 35 service road and wait for it to fly just overhead when it landed.
Love history...
I just realized Mueller closed on May 22, Brackenridge closed on May 21. Will FEC close on May 20 :P ?
