Lord Louis was born a Prince of Battenburg the name Mountbatten only came to be because of WW1. It happened around the same time the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha became the House of Windsor, which happened on 17 July 1917. This was because of the public of Britian having anti-German sentiments because of the war. In fact the Battenburg to Mountbatten switch happened 14 July 1917, and the names mean the same thing.

I have never liked Lord Mountbatten or his wife but it's only because I believe in loyalty in life for example to husband to children to all family to community to country those two were so bad examples for how life should be lived. Now with your help I may feel different or at least understand how they choose this way of behaviour.

The thought of her giving up never entered my mind. There's something about those of unyielding character which simply won't allow such a move. Her stance on a myriad of issues has been obvious, within her narratives. I don't think that status, money, popularity or power affects her much, and she's unlikely to be intimidated by those to whom it does. Her adherence to her firm moral code seems most important, and therein lay the challenge, which she met thoughtfully, passionately, and bravely. Did it wound her? Obviously it did. She reeled, then re-balanced, treated herself, then stood tall again. She is a teacher. The scar from this will be a guide for her to be an ever-better one. In fact, has what she has done, not already been a lesson for us all?

The name Battenburg was Anglicised to Mountbatten after ( or during) the second world war because of the animosity toward the Germans. Prince Phillip was also a Battenburg. Elisabeth and Philip officially changed the family name to Windsor during the war to dissociate themselves from the German connection. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Me too for similar reasons. I’ve watched a few royal documentaries and they always brought him up but in a way that implied there were some seedy aspects to his life that they weren’t going to expose. Of course that’s all I wanted to know so yeah this should be good!

I am glad to see you back. I unfollowed Lady C now that she has shown her true colors. My unfollowing of her was only based on her behavior, not on your review or gentle critique. I was about to purchase her book, but i have deleted it from my cart. i don't want to support vicious people like her

Originally, based on Cheere's review, I was going to order Lady C's book. However, when she went after Cheere so viciously & unnecessarily, I no longer wish to buy her books or sub to her channel. She should have contacted Cheere directly...like a true professional & "Lady" should have done! LC has lost all credibility with me. I'm so glad that Cheere is reviewing another book...she has a way of making books come alive...I'm hooked!

@cheeredenise thank you.

Oh. Battenburg until 1917 ( ? ) when it became Mountbatten . At the same time that the Saxe-Coburg Gotha name was changed to WINDSOR. It was ordered by George V as All german things were despised , thanks to the Kaiser. Even Daschund dogs were harmed , the hatred was so great. Oops , you just mentioned the Daschunds!

Good morning Cheere, I am so happy to see and hear from you and looking forward to this book and your commentary 👏
I believe the family name was originally Battenberg. Around World War I, George V wanted the family to appear more English and less German so their name Saxe-Coburg was changed to Windsor. The Battenbergs changed their name to Mountbatten.

@misscoutts6193

It was changed in I917 because of anti-German feeling and the entire family was, in reality, of German origin. The name "Windsor" was thought of by Lord Stamfordham, King George V's Private Secretary.

Like or loathe the Mountbattens, I personally love them, besides the fact I live about an hour from Broadlands, and it is a stunning place to visit, they were/are quite a dynamic couple and have definitely left their mark. Thankyou for reading this book. The surname Montbatten was changed, it was originally Battenberg, origins came from Germany, from what I've read and reading between the lines it was changed because of its links to Germany.

This book is certainly off to quite a start! I was nine years old when Lord Mountbatten died, and I only heard about Edwina in passing at that time since she had died many years before him. Seems as though "open marriages" and what they called swinging in the 1970s was always the norm among the aristocracy.
