    Back in the day when the norm is that artists write their own music and lyrics. It's full of heart since every songs has their own personal touch unlike the modern music where songs and artists are in a streamlined industry production.

    His voice really is a freak of nature. Has a beautiful rasp near the higher notes, and is smooth as silk at the same time. Try singing one of his songs, and it hits home just how amazing his vocal range is. My childhood was dotted with his songs playing somewhere in the background. Sublime and underrated.

    This was from American Bandstand in 1976 and it was one of the very few times an Act sang "Live". Peter Cetera and Terry Kath (1943-1976) were the two original lead singers. Peter left in the 1980s while Jason Scheff took his place. Also if you can listen to Color My World, Saturday In The Park or their Version of I'm A Man by The Spencer Davis Group.

If you truly love her don’t EVER take her for granted because, and this is a fact, once she’s made up her mind that she’s done, it’s over brah! Nothing you can say will ever bring her back. Women will put up with a lot from a man, for a time, but once her mind is made up it’s written in stone. Words of wisdom

    Nice reaction to a beautiful song. One of my favorite all-time slow songs. I get goosebumps every time....including now.lol. Chicago has some amazing ballads, but the have some funk and soul too. Check out "Make Me Smile". Guitarist Terry Kath was called the "white Ray Charles", who was a big influence to Kath. 25 or 6 to 4 is obviously highly requested. Blood, Sweat & Tears is another group you should react to. Lots of funk and soul.

  • @craigw1911
    @craigw19112 жыл бұрын

    This was one of the rare occasions when their guitarist and baritone singer Terry Kath (r.i.p.) did NOT play guitar on the track. Regular bass player Peter Cetera is on guitar here as well as tenor lead vocals. On the studio recording their producer James William Guercio played guitar and Terry Kath did not perform on the track at all. This was the start of Chicago's descent into softer ballads. Their core foundation was as a rock band with horns, fusing together rock, jazz, blues, funk and soul into an incredible mix. You need to experience their foundation, starting with their 1969 debut album as Chicago Transit Authority. "Introduction", the first track on that double LP was written by and lead vocals sung by guitarist Terry Kath. Also on that album are "Poem 58", a 9 minute song opening up with almost 5 minutes of the funkiest Terry Kath on guitars, Danny Seraphine on drums and Peter Cetera on bass that you will experience. Jimi Hendrix said Chicago's guitar player (Kath) was better than Jimi himself. Other notable tracks on the debut are "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" sang by keyboard player Robert Lamm, "Questions 67 And 68" sung by Cetera, "I'm A Man", a cover of the song by the Spencer Davis Group and sang by all 3 Chicago lead vocalists, "Beginnings" sang by Robert Lamm. Chicago's eponymous second album, after shortening their name from Chicago Transit Authority, features a seven movement suite titled "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon". Written by trombone player James Pankow, it begins with Terry Kath on "Make Me Smile" and ends with Kath on "Now More Than Ever", which were blended together for the single release of "Make Me Smile as the entire suite runs about 14 minutes. Sandwiched in the middle is Kath on the ballad most frequently played in the early 70's at weddings and proms, "Colour My World". You really need to experience the entire suite in one sitting to appreciate the changes between tempos and the instrumental segments. These were true musicians, premiere artists of their day creating music that nobody had assembled to that point. Also on that album is the remarkable "25 Or 6 To 4". Either the studio version or the live 1970 performance at Tanglewood, will blow you away when you hear (and see at Tanglewood) Terry Kath's mind boggling guitar solo. Chicago and the world lost Terry 44 years ago on January 23, 1978, when he accidentally shot himself in the head fooling around with a 9mm pistol. The world lost an incredible musician and singer, and the band Chicago lost its heart and soul and leader. Peter Cetera and David Foster later on took Chicago down the path of more ballads and de-emphasizing the horn section. There is a monumental difference between "Classic" Chicago and "Ballad" Chicago.

    These guys, since their inception in 1968, write ALL of their own music/and lyrics. For their earliest "love ballad" might want to listen to "Color My World" - utilizing only piano/flute/bass and amazing Terry Kath vocals. It was released as a single off their 2nd album - Chicago II - and was played at probably every HS Prom across the nation.

    In 1977 I was 10 and feeeeeelin this music in every way possible. Good times, good vibes all around, you missed out on a great time in America...music was so sos so damn great during this genre. Rock Soul, Disco, Rock, Punk, Glam Rock, I mean from The Bee Gees to Chicago to Bowie, it was an epic romantic and sexy time. I've been asked before if I had a time machine, what year would I go back to, I say 1977 every single time, hands down. No cell phones, Computers, no social media, just. purely being present to what is right in your heart in that moment. Pretty epic! Loved your reaction to a beautiful song...
