That’s quite the “clearance sacrifice”. Great concept to keep in mind to activate pieces. Lots of other elements of the board have to work in your favor in this line. Give up 3 pawns and if they can coordinate their own pieces you are screwed. And the computer has the luxury of being able to calculate millions of lines to confirm almost every possible line works in its favor.

Wonderful example! It seems as though the top chess engines also prefer to give up material to liberate cramped pieces.

At 0:45 I assume White missed the intermezzo f6 after g5 fxg5, so he thought he would just be losing the g-pawn.

Great video, great example. g5 and then f6, hxg5 is really much simpler, g6 coming too, and Ng7+ as you said. Bc4 by White seems unnecessary, even just passing would maintain the advantage I believe, with g5 on the next move anyhow. Keep it up!! 😊

Truly spectacular compensation. I saw d5, but didn't really see the full compensation and I don't think I would've played it over Rxc5. I would've cried after Nd5 though. Pawn lives don't matter- unless they're on the 6th and trying to promote!

This might be a weird request, but can you please change your piece theme? These ones look so awful and distract from the gameplay. The knights look goofy as hell.

Your request isn't weird. A few years ago I chimed in and told Alex Banzea his font choice was bad after someone else did. Chess content creators do well to neutralize this issue by using a popular style. Alex switched to something normal and stuck with it.

I agree. The bishops look too much like pawns when viewed on a small screen.
