Actually，you were in Pingjiang Street😄，and the cover photo is Shantang Street，another beautiful old street in Suzhou. The reason you found the Pingjiang Street is more quiet，is because it's not entirely for the tourists，there are residents，mostly elder people， live in those old houses just across the canal. Suzhou‘s ancient city part is barely changed in 2500 years，it has countless canals in the city just like Amsterdam. As a local I‘m glad you like my hometown，Welcome😃

It's because you don't recognize Chinese people's diversity. Many faces around are from minorities 5000 km away, with different bone features, skin color, of course dialects and languages, or from Vietnam, Korea, Thailand. It's like for us European, as far apart as Paris from Abidjan in Africa or Beyrouth in Lebanon. They have an immense diversity but not the diversity you've been taught.

@@glg9238 ; Yes... All along history all powerful (trading/conquering) nations kept a constant flow of slaves. Even today, wages that are barely enough to survive decently are one of the many faces of slavery.
