It’s really great of you to mention that you’re not putting the blame on religious people. I have several friends who are devout Muslims from Afghanistan, and they are the most understanding, easygoing, and accepting people I’ve ever met. They don’t hide their faith (hell, two women I know have openly chastised their husbands when said husbands told them to “stop wearing the hijab, we’re in America now”), but they are appalled when they see people using and abusing religion as a tool for power; one gentleman even confided in me that he was stunned by just how many laws in the United States are based in (Protestant Christian) religious belief, when we’re supposed to be keeping church and state firmly apart. Religion and faith aren’t evil, but they can be used for evil by terrible people trying to justify their sick desires.

Agreed. it's SO prevalent, but speaking up makes you lose credibility to other Christians. it's just the devil talking, disapproval of other Christians means you hate God Himself. i'm no fundie but i reckon 50% of self-identified Christians i've seen are Pharisees, using God's name in vain to exploit the faithful & rationalize their own misdeeds. & the Bible warns us of just that, numerous times - yet it never stops being disheartening. i'm fairly scientifically minded and VERY skeptical of "demonic" activities, but i can comfortably say for people like these, Kenneth Cokehead & Jesse Duplicitous - there be demons in there.

The whole separation of church and state does not mean that laws based on faith can not be made, it means that the government is forbidden to create or declare an official religion for the United States such as what happened with the creation of The Church of England.

Please cover the case on Jessica Judd! She murdered her children gruesomely. Some of my family members know this family personally. Jessica’s family used to live in the forest. Sometimes when they needed wood for fires, they would use horses to haul giant logs through the trees, whilst they were balancing on the logs going at insane speeds. My family member witnessed so many bizarre things while he was visiting this family. Very interesting case, but very sad as well.

I just remembered being in a free church (my mom went from church to church for some time, when I was younger) and they said 'Jesus-Freaks' once... in the context of the preacher guy being like 'let me tell you this one time we saw a buddha statue in the park and we waited for nightfall before making it fall over and drawing crosses all over it, because that is what good christians do' and everyone (was a youth group of that church, so mostly people in the age of 14-17 ) just went with it and as smiling and telling him how great that was and I just sat there... thinking 'how disrespectful can you get?' but I didn't say anything, because I was so baffled and didn't want everyone against me. Looking back, I should've said something... it was basically... this whole 'all have to accept our religion, but there's no need to respect any other person, with different beliefs'-attitude and I hated it..

We visited a Pentecostal church, and everyone was holding their hands up and speaking in tongues, which was scary enough. Well, one woman was convulsing on the floor as if she was having a seizure and I asked my dad, "Is she okay?" and the woman next to us said,"The demons are coming from her body!" River Phoenix was in this cult as a child?! 😭 Now it makes me wonder if that is how he got his emotions for his roles in Stand By Me and Running On Empty. Those are pretty much the only movies that I've seen him in. And he was a teenager in those. I remember on the special features with interviews for Stand By Me when the actors when they were older for like an anniversary edition... they said they remember it didnt take much for River to bring out his emotions for that one scene. He probably just finally letting out all of what he was bottling up inside him. And I know he turned to drugs and he died of an overdose. He was already an amazing heartfelt actor and he could've done so much more amazing things in life. 😭

My aunt got caught in this cult for a few weeks in the 70s. Like a small army my grandparents, her brothers and sisters including my mum plus my dad all drove over 700km to break her out and bring her home. I always grew up hearing about that trip, but until now I never knew how horrific this cult actually was. I understand why they all went in force to get her out.

That's what I'd do to rescue a family member. My sister who's ten years older than me had an abusive abusive boyfriend when young. Our mom flat out told him she'd kill him if he didn't leave for good. He must have believed her because we never saw him again. Personally I'd rather be on my own than deal with toxic people. Admittedly though I am on my own but that's by choice. I do upgrade my boy cat occasionally to boyfriend status when someone is bothering me. Then he goes back to baby/living teddy bear. Seriously he lets me cuddle him for hours while I watch KZread or read on my tablet.

I'm not sure how either managed to break free but I'm glad they did. one of them reported her experience to the dean of students who was already fed up with the group coming onto campus that her testimony gave him the evidence he needed to ban them from ever stepping foot on campus again (public uni) and turn info over to the local PD. I don't think the cult got closed down but it got run out of that part of town. dean did not mess around

He was forced to do sexual activities with almost all his family members and his mother was one of the people in charge of recruiting people into this cult. He was a very sweet soul, but was constantly on some hardcore drugs and his son ended up molesting me at the age of 7 with no consequences. We didn't live there for long.

my dad has actually talked about this a bit. he and his brother grew up in huntington beach and actually spoke to this dude a couple times. it was mostly just small talk, but there were a couple times where he tried to get them to come to his “meetings”. they never went, obviously, but it was still creepy as hell. my grandmother apparently insulted him on a few occasions because he was speaking against her religion (we’re catholics). she was an elementary school teacher and she always made sure her students were staying away from him. if they had to walk passed his place on the way to/from school, she gave them a new route. he freaked her out, and she was right to feel that way. i believe they met his kids, but i could be wrong. they had no idea what he was actually doing, but they were right to avoid him and his family.

As a Pentecostal Christian, I hate how often Christianity and the word of God was and is used and lied about for such horrible things. People take so many things out of context and people use the Bible and Christianity for horrible things sometimes. This is why I’m more afraid of people than demons. A demon will flee at the mention of Jesus name but a person… a human with a soul and a mind.. can do so much damage and sometimes you can’t stop them. Both can twist the word of God but one is definitely easier to believe when they’re a human being.

We reached our limit when this Baptist girl went to Sunday night church in long shorts and was forced to sit in the kitchen for the whole service. I also got tired of dirty looks whenever I came to church alone because my husband had to repair his car in order to go to work that week (we were dirt poor and drove pos vehicles). How dare he miss church in order to fix his car so he could pay our bills. Yeah. Incidentally, I'm pretty sure his MIL was forced by her husband to go; she later ran away from him by going out a window in the night.

It hurts so much to know people like that still exist and not much has even been done about it. I hope those who caused all this pain, and suffering, suffer themselves in complete hell or in some terrible form of grief.

The worst part about history class in school was we stopped in the 70’s, after talking for weeks and weeks about the Vietnam War, and we didn’t get to any of the cults or pop culture anything, until the end of the school year. So, for 7 years I’ve had to play catch up on the 80’s, 90’s and whatever else. But not the big main stuff going on, those little tiny “Hey! Remember this?” moments in history. This is a perfect video essay and it’s exactly what I wanted to learn about today. Because what kind of sick psychopath would allow these things to happen under the guise of “Gods Work”? What makes a person become like this? I’ve always been interested in the psychology side of these types of people, so I can understand and avoid what they do.

Me and my mom almost got stuck in a cult We started going to this church, it wasn't a Cristian church it was a church for people who didn't know what they believe in. It was cool, and fun at the start but then the leaders started getting weird. You couldn't hug someone with the leaders permission, they wouldn't allow phones in the church, and you couldn't talk about the other people or talk about where the location. They wouldn't let you leave until the session was over. They had these rules that really didn't make sense and if you broke then you would have to go into the leader's room and make it. They started to try to get us to live in the area and to stay longer. And I know at the time it kind of seems a little crazy but we didn't leave sooner but we are going through some really bad stuff and people kept judging us cuz we didn't know what religion we believed so nice to go to a place where you could believe whatever you wanted we're just trying to find a safe place to be ourselves and at the time it seemed like this place it
