This is one of those things that everyone has drawn at some point messing about with a compass, I’m going to show you my most satisfying way to draw it.
The compass stays at the same size throughout.
00:00 Step 1: Draw a circle with your compass set to half the size you want your torus to be.
00:13 Step 2: Set your compass point anywhere on the circumference of the circle and draw an arc that crosses the circumference of the circle.
00:22 Step 3: Use that intersection where the arc crosses the circle as your new center point and draw another arc the opposite way.
00:32 Step 4: Join the point where the arcs cross with the center of the circle and put a mark on the circumference.
00:49 Step 5: You’re basically going to repeat the previous three steps with the new intersection but we only need to know the point where we cross our existing arcs so put a mark on the circle’s circumference on both sides of the arcs.
01:07 Step 6: Now use these new marks to draw arcs inside of our existing arcs.
01:31 Step 7: Connect the points where the arcs cross with the center of the circle and put a mark on the circumference.
02:05 Step 8: Repeat the previous three steps again with the new marks.
04:34 Step 9: Either switch to a pen or continue using the compass the way you have it set up. Start at 12 o’clock on the circle and draw circles all the way around the full 360 degrees, using each new intersection to create the next circle.

There should be an art class just dedicated to mandalas and spiritual arts. And you would be the teacher!

So cool Zak. After I drew it, I stood up and looked at it from above. Maybe it is an optical illusion but at all of the nexus points radiating out from the centre you could see white circles of energy bouncing in and out.

There is a crop circle that is the same. Would it be possible to do something like that on a corn field at those scales, with sticks and ropes, without error and without leaving the ground full of marks? There are even much more complex designs. Would it be possible to make them with sticks and ropes with such perfection?
can u show us the angle your using for this?

Absolutely mesmerising! I had a quick look at the tools you use on your website, but the compass you link to doesn't look like it'll hold a pen. Which springbow compass, that'll hold a pen, do you recommend?

So... I can’t be bothered to erase and I also do a lot of work on colored paper, which has a tendency to show the erasing marks. So I set up the basic outline or framework on a piece of cheap paper, set it on top of the intended paper, then stab through the important points with my compass and proceed as desired. 😊
