Your skill set is good.I just recently fixed up an exact model like your a few days ago but in rougher shape.Yours appears mint even has rear hatch cover which I never see. These are incredible machines and up there with the Big Reds.I buy them up when I can get at a reasonable price.

If the starter gears were chewed up, it’s possible something internally caused it. My 87 ATC 250ES had damaged gears and I found out that indicated a bad one way bearing on the flywheel side. Ended up doing one way bearings on both flywheel and clutch sides to be safe. Nice machine - Honda’s are the best!

Looks 100% original. The oil cooler fan should only run as needed by the sensor. Im not sure how it was determined that it wasnt working properly. My guess is someone saw it wasnt working and thought something was wrong. The oil cooler keeps the oil from breaking down so it always lubricates. It doesnt stop overheating. Its an air cooled engine.

I have the first gen Yamaha Grizzly 600 in mint. They were made from 98-2001....mine is a 99.All plastic is red mint...chrome wheels.....just sat for 5+ years....just needed a new battery ....the carb cleaned and new petcock kit.The engine is noisey....like top end....but it still runs ...idles....revs like new.But to pull start this thing you need lots of umph.I designed a am/fm cassette stereo system for the back rack.I even put on a small inverter to get 120 volts a/c to run small items like drills....coffee maker...etc.This is also my camping buddy. In the past many people have looked around and wonder....where is Metallica tunes playing.I realy enjoy your vids and your skills.Keep doing what your doing and thankyou.

I have this exact machine. I got it from my brother, who bought it from the original owner some 20+ years ago. It has a stack of receipts, including the original purchase from the dealership in 1986. It also has an original, never used, Honda shop manual. It doesn't have so much as a fingerprint, crease, or rip, and the pages are not yellowed. The machine isn't quite as clean as the one in the video, but it always starts with ease, and drives great!

I was told the valve seals are known issues on these units. Going to use it at my property for work and probably fix it up over time. My second one of these, sold the first years ago.

Perfect except your solder work … you are painting the solder on … apply soldering iron for a few seconds below the wires and then feed solder from above the iron and up the wire … the heat will travel up the wire and the solder will seep into all the spaces.

I had to buy a whole new (used) head and cam and used red locktite and no problems yet. Not recommended but just what I felt necessary. I also put on a new manual chain tensioner that fits an old Honda CBR and fits perfectly.

Only problem now is if anything major does break parts are almost impossible to find. We figured it has between 6000 to 8000 hours Run time Could be more could be less just a figure.

When you solder something first of all melt a little bit on the end of the iron then place the iron on the underside of the wires to be soldered, then apply the solder to the wires you'll find it so much easier. Solder follows/flows to the heat so by having it underneath it helps.

The gears you have are from a 1990 something Honda 350 the bikes look the same but the starter cover is a little bit longer and the gears are wider and the shaft that the top gear slides onto is a little bit longer. But if you get the ones from in 1986 to 1987 Honda 350D that covers with fit perfectly and you do still need a Thin gasket as a space

My brother-in-law had a similar model. It would occasionally break the gear teeth when being switched off, because the engine would bounce off compression as it stopped, and the one-way bearing engaged the starter. I didn't live close by, and there was no internet then, so I was unable to help. He eventually traded it for another brand without us ever understanding the root cause. Looking back, I wonder if there was a problem with an automatic compression release not working.

I would grab the matching gear shaft to go with them gears bud, didn't look like the last gear was going to be sitting on the shaft far enough for the long term.

@@clemcon501 Suzuki had the first 2x4 in 1982, but it was Honda that had the first 4x4 in 1986, it was the 350 Fourtrax. And they unveiled it by lowering it from a helicopter showing all four wheels moving under their own power.

Those gears are from an 85 that housing will get chewed out if you don't get the correct ones for it and a new centrifugal clutch one way bearing as well it is the reason the original gears got damaged. It's well worth the cost of the right parts as it's more expensive to replace the crank shaft from the old worn out centrifugal clutch one way bearing tearing it up.
