    The most practical build for my parents always was my old rig after building a new one. Prebuild and tested for no costs, can't beat that.

    I do the same, pass my old rig to family members that just do browsing, normal online type of activities. Actually this system I am currently typing this on will be one of those systems it is a 6700k, 16g 3200mhz ram, 1 tb adata ssd, 1tb samsung ssd, Seasonic 650 w PSU and I will swap out the current 1070 gpu and just put in a 570 gpu from an even older build and the case is a Cooler Master Haf XP EVO. I will finish my Alder Lake gaming rig build within about the next week or so and make my current 10700k rig my everyday browsing rig.

    I usually keep the upgraded video card and power supply to reduce the initial purchase price of parts for my new rig when passing the old rig to my parents. 😉 For some reason, I like hoarding spare parts instead of selling them.

  • @billwiley7216

    @billwiley7216

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@christopherschmeltz3333 Problem is usually the build I gift is around 4 years or so old and now something like a PSU that was an adequate amount of watts for the old build will not cut it for the newer more power hungry hardware. Also again same with the video card as by that point they are a couple of generations old and if looking for top performance with the new build you are sacrificing performance of the rig by retaining the several generation old GPU which in some ways negates doing the build. If you are a gamer generally the newer series GPU will have a much larger performance impact in most games than a CPU a few generations old as long as the initial build used a good chip to start with.

    After enabling fTPM and upgrading to Windows 11 and started to get random stuttering in videos and games. It would happen once or twice a day. I thought it might be the result of the AMD /Windows 11 issues, but the patches and chipset updates did nothing. I reinstalled Windows 10 (clean install) and the stuttering continued. I deduced that it was most probably a hardware issue. I almost lost my mind trying to identify the cause of the stuttering. I even upgrade back to Windows 11 and the stuttering still continued. I Then saw a forum post where someone mentioned that fTPM was causing stuttering. I disabled fTMP in my BIOS and not only does Windows 11 still run, but the stuttering is completely gone. It's been a week now and no issues.

    Having blu-ray capabilities on your desktop is so choice. Only problem is, the Blu-ray Disc Association, in their infinite fucking wisdom, decided that the only (legal) way one would be able to play UHD blu-rays on a desktop would be to have an Intel processor from 7th to 10th gen (11th and higher doesn't support SGX and, thus, won't support the DRM) and to have a PC running Windows 10. No, not even Windows 11. That's it. Those are your only (legal) options for UHD blu-rays.

Also took a screwdriver to unlock my gpu (lock from mb (asus x570-E gaming) is beneath the gpu lol) prying it out and yanking it left n right. And i don't think those APU's would have any issue with decoding any Streaming Service video's from Netflix, etc.

    My parents landed up with an overkill "low end" system simply because last gen parts are still stupidly expensive over just buying a new Ryzen 5600X. They had a A8-5600K APU with 8GB of RAM that wasn't cutting it. I had an extra X570 board forced upon me by the Newegg Shuffle that I wanted to use. So a 5600X and 16GB went in. They already had a Quadro P400 card to run two 1440p panels since the old APU's iGPU couldn't handle anything that fancy. It's all stealthly packed into an old Antec NSK4480, running cooler and quieter then that A8 APU ever did! Even still has the DVD drive, just because. I still need to find one of those drive bays with USB 3.0 ports so it has modern connectivity. The biggest problem I had was the 480w power supply wouldn't work with the new board for some reason, so I had to drop a cheapo 750w unit in there (smallest I could find local).
