Lmao the chatter who said that the paladin sword was glitched was probably just using it in combat every time. You have to go through two instances of combat without using the weapon in order to move it again.

@@measlesplease1266 Yeah the balancing is pretty garbage. I had a mage build that was basically invincible and grew exponentially stronger the longer a battle went on for. My haste + rage scaled every turn, and I could even self heal. Whoever the King Boss was, was just harmless. I just didn't attack him to let him scale, and waited until I could one shot him. That build could probably have gone on forever. The only problem with it was that even an easy battle would take about 10 minutes. But then I had a warrior build that used the 0 cost knives to scale my main weapon. Worked great on every enemy but the King Boss who I could basically do nothing against, due to the fact he got stronger for every attack made against him, and I had to attack about 20 times a turn for my build to work, there was nothing I could do. Still, love the game. And at least they didn't go the Peggle route where they sell the game for $15 despite having very little content and little in the way of balancing. As much as Iove the game, that was pretty egregious.

@@pagatryx5451 yeah games like this are cool in concept but balancing is always hard. Either you get a game that can be broken or a game where no matter what you get destroyed if you don't play perfectly.

During that final boss it really shone just how much NL was grokking the loops of the game. Not wasting block, choosing how to use his energy, interfacing with burn and and enemy summons. A real 'he's starting to believe' moment

Game needs to be way harder though, it feels hard your first run or two and then it's way too easy after except for how enemy spikes scale to kill half the builds in the game

NL just a tip, you can start as archer by clicking the little duder at the start of a run. He gives you an option of a couple choices.

@@ADeatonic instead of hitting new game hit continue, lose, then hit retry there will be a guy with 4 different options for your next run. Although in my experience archer build is easier to pivot into rather than start out with cause early damage with 1 arrow is rough

NL, I've fallen in love with this game since your first video on it. Thanks so much for showing it off and I hope you continue to play and post videos! You're my favorite streamer and it's really fun watching you play this.

Finally got a victory using a shield and spike build. Got an item that gave all shields +2 spikes per use per turn and a shield that used all shields adjacent to it. I had over 500 spikes on the final boss.

Was wondering why this felt so similar to slay the spire other than the obvious enemy combat system. Realised you can just imagine your backpack as your deck, and instead of draw as the limiter you have space and connection requirements. Thus you have a sts deck that draws exactly the same every turn, and its up to you to make sure that you draw everything you could need in a turn

just had a three hour run. on the final battle i had 414 defense. Haste is so busted

true I had a pretty broken run where it felt like the armor was just constantly multiplying with a greater amount each turn. It would start at 30 armor then grow to like 50 then it kept increasing until it would reach in the hundreds where it would eventually end because combat would be already over. The only problem I had was the status effects, specifically dying to poison because you can't block the damage you take from it with armor.

I love that NL is trying new builds even if they seem stinky at first. Mostly because since he’s doing it, I don’t have to try lmao

I had a build yesterday where I would get 2 dodge from 2 ninja gears and a bow with 2 arrows and a poison arrow and it was farming the early game. After I went into the endless mode it fell off due to not being able to block though.

I had a very similar build, mine was pretty okay though, made it to like floor 16 by using the sandwiches+seasoning combo to abuse energy consumables for increased dps simultaneously with healing whatever I couldn't dodge

If you can imagine a world where NL isn’t a professional Backpack Hero player, maybe some of you will sleep better.

You need to treat the slot next to your energy token like a temporary slot where you could put stuff like a key that’s immediately going to be used at a door before your next combat or like when you said you wanted to sell you ring of haste at about 18:18 so you could fit the helmet, you could put the ring in that temp slot and dump it at a shop before you next fight.

but reddit told me that this is dead due to backseating.....did reddit lie?!

Started playing along while watching. My first run I ended up with 3 items each capable of dealing 14+ dmg to all enemies once per turn with no energy cost! (Lightning + Tusk + As many Machetes as you can find)

@@ADeatonic You get a relic like the horn or bottle or belt of knives that add +3 or +5 damage to all weapons. Then you get like 8 arrows and put them all to the side of the bow, don't bother with empty space. Then your bow suddenly is doing 8 dmg per arrow and you have 8 arrows, 64 dmg. Start adding in gems like diamond or ruby that give +2 or +4 damage to every nearby weapon, and the arrows get even stronger.

I got the relic that said 1 mana add 2 damage to all adjacent weapons, put it inbetween 3 of the energy arrows and 1 regular. I had the legendary bow that was a manastone, and so many regular manastones. Then i got the frog that refilled manastones but most fights didn’t make it to turn 2. I one shot all 3 armadillos and fire geckos in the last area turn 1 every fight.

Also had a couple of the little lightning bolts that were conductive add a damage but those did not do as much as the item that used mana to add to all 4 arrows. Had like 35+ mana so it added like 70 damage x4 for the arrows out the gate turn 1. Lots of clicking tho. Killed grandmaster and his summon on turn 2. Absolutely pog.

Same. And every shot got stronger thanks to belt of knives. And I had 6 energy per turn. Beat the last boss in one turn lol, survived until ng+ second dungeon's boss where they had like 5.5k health, summoning guys that had like 1k

This game is amazing.

Obligatory backseat comment: 55:10 : Egglord throws away log while carrying spice and having access to seasoning. Log creates Herb for 1 Energy; Seasoning adds +5 Heal to Herb and Spice adds +3 Rage to Herb, resulting in +5 Heal/+3 Rage for 1 Energy. It's a damn shame.

Spice + Water Flask passed up so many times.

God man the Guardian Ring is so insanely good with haste. Please realize it NL. PLease.

The whetstone (pink clump) doesn't hit things diagonally, so that misses one shiv, which is fine. The bigger issue is the book needs to touch a conductive item, such as the mana stone (blue circle). All the mana stuff could be moved down to where the shield is, but the boots might get in the way. Swapping the dagger with the top shiv, horizontally over top of the whetstone would be better I think. All 4 weapons still get hit by the book, the book still touches the mana stuff, and the whetstone hits 3 weapons.
