In this ukulele lesson, we will learn the most popular five-minute exercise that will improve your left-hand technique in just a few weeks.
The exercise is the popular 1234 exercise which has been called in many different ways. Some call it the "Spider" exercise or the "Moonwalker."

    Learning this was transformational for me. I notice you rest your thumb on the string lower than you play, and pick with fingers 2 and 3. Very cool.

    Yes. I always had that! It helps get rid of the resonating noise of the strings :)

    I noticed your rt thumb follows the fingers down the strings and seems to rest on the string above the string your fingers are playing. Interesting Tech. Thank you for the lesson!

    Another way to the 1-2-3-4 pattern, keep your fingers on the fretboard as you move the 1 finger to the next string. The point of this exercise is to keep your fingers close to the fret board the whole time

    A good player for sure. I don’t understand what fingers in right hand plays pattern. It is not just the thumb? I always like to know what ukulele is being used for my next purchase?

    I tend to use my chording hand to hold up my ukulele which involves mostly using my thumb or palm to holdup the ukulele up as I move down or up the neck. I'm not entirely sure how to utilize my chording hand properly, but I am noticing that the chording hand is not supposed to use any effort to hold up the ukulele at all to help you play, so how do you keep the ukulele up as you play?

    Probably because it breaks the up and down flow of pitch

    I put tenor strings on a baritone banjolele. Problem is that the A first string breaks before I can reach the proper pitch. Any suggestions. Thanks.

    I have been practicing playing ukulele recently, and I had this problem, that if I hold a string with my index finger and release it,then the string makes sound, even though I don't want it to happen. Can someone tell me where I am going wrong ?

    Had this myself .. lighter press on the string and consider lubing your fingers ,, or use string lube

    Playing fast has nothing to do with this exercise. The 1234 exercise is mainly used to improve your left hand position and control.

    I think because the top string is not a low G string. It would not sound good when you move downwards to the bottom strings

    Please go back to high G. I cannot find log G strings available to buy in my country and have been skiping all the videos with low G tunning. :(
