Getting paid £23 per hour doing a Sunday and working late is poor. I’ve said it time an time again. Drivers should be on a minimum of £20 per hour days. There are certain company’s out there who have ruined this industry. That’s why the rates are so poor. It needs a serious overhaul otherwise you will get driver shortages eventually

Seems about right pay albeit bank holiday Sundays are usually approaching 28/hr....but to confirm how awful rates can still be..was called today by company seeking an employed, class 1 driver for nights and was surprised when I declined being employed for £15.00/hr! The recruiter actually tried to assure me the role was 50hr working week Monday to Friday, it was highly paid!!! Also, a 'wonderful' addition was an annual bonus of £2000.00 if no days or nights were taken off for sickness or other reasons apart from statutory holidays each year! Yep not one day off all year to get bonus!!!! Declined the Simarco role as the £45k 'earnings potential' was BS unless you're a wiling slave?

Interesting video and really great your trying to be helpful to other new drivers. I'm a farmer so I quite enjoy anything with a truck, meet a few truckers every year and all have been spot on. I doubt you'd like drops to farms as every farm is a different, some with great space and others very tight. I've subscribed and kept watching this video as you seemed to have a good way with you and obviously enjoying what you're doing 👍

Thanks Kev, a good watch. Ive got my practical coming up in a few weeks, looking forward to it and already looking at jobs and what sort of pay for a new driver. Id be happy with £17-£18 an hour, but out the gates id settle for a less, just to gain experience more than anything, and depends on whats involved. My brothers company are taking on new drivers at i think he said £37k a year, think he is on 48k as he has been there a good few years.

PPS 30 m gap is OK as vehiclemin front is also moving? And of course, really informative video and a good listen....Q. A video about the worse paying/conditions firms/agencies? I detailed one below...if drivers were informed about the awful firms/agencies....they could be forewarned thereby, avoiding horrid times? Also, the best Ones need a mention...one good place, DHL Ipswich ...paid per shift but rarely work a full shift even on RDC/Hub drives and when over shift time..paid good hourly rate...not uncommon an 8hr day for a 10hr paid shift.

Do you manually input all your full time hours from your other job in to the tacho when you drive at the weekend? Presumably your full time job isn't driving hgvs but those hours do have be declared even if you only drive once a week. You also can't drive hgvs on both Saturday and Sunday if you do another non hgv related job Monday to Friday.

Yes bud , to a degree as I am a rolling week shift worker and normally drive a couple of times a month only but generally I have had 48 hrs rest from my other job before one of those chosen rest days to drive. It’s a paid hobby more than an additional income for me at the moment . But you have to be transparent and legal it’s as simple as that .👍🚛

@@THEDAVIESTRIBE Got caught out myself around 15 years ago doing a non hgv job Monday to Friday and then some agency work at the weekend. I was pulled in by Vosa on a routine check but as soon as they saw no entries for the rest of the week, they got suspicious. I gave them some BS excuse and thought I'd got away with it. Around 4 weeks later I was called to a meeting by my boss in my non driving job who said that he'd had a letter from vosa enquiring about my usual working hours even though I hadn't even disclosed to vosa that I had another regular job. Turned out the HMRC gave vosa those details and my boss therefore replied and told them that I did work there full time Monday to Friday. If I recall correctly, I got around a £800 fine for not having the minimum weekly rest and not recording my non driving hours anywhere. Plenty of drivers still doing exactly the same as I did and most agencies couldn't care less.

  • @THEDAVIESTRIBE

Yes mate self preservation is key as the agencies just want the bum on a seat ,unfortunately for you a costly lesson learnt. I luckily sat down and studied rest periods initially for the tachograph but also for my current safety critical employer and identified only 2 shifts per month that were legal and I stick to them religiously but do have example hours in my personal drivers log were I to get stopped and I would be happy for vosa to look in to . I’m fortunate that I only choose to drive HGV part time to keep me current and experienced as a back up to my main job . If it become a hassle I would just give it up .

I just got my class 2. Right now in Ireland it's a driver's market. So many companies willing to take on a new driver and they pay well. It was a very difficult decision but I decided to work with an agency, my first job is next week. I've heard it's going to be a difficult multi drop job but they're paying €24 p/h and I can pick my hours weekly with no shortage of work, that was one of the main reasons. The agency will give me a range of experience compared to sticking to one company, as well as the agency being one of the best driving schools for me to get my class 1 and ADR. Any thoughts on working full time for an agency as opposed to a a company? Loving the content 😊

Shortage of Drivers :))))))) 😂 if anything we are to many and not organised. Actually is a shortage of companies wich pay decent , i dont her about a good company to have a problem not finding drivers.... That's why we earn / hours less than a cleaning lady . Its true we earn good mony but just because we work long hours.... and with wath sacrifice. No social life and hard to build a family in this field....

10 quid an hour is a joke for class 2 let alone class 1, I was earning 10 quid and hour back in 2011 -2012, so to be paid that from an agency it a joke and not worth it, Some warehouse working are on more money and that not even skilled labor, and some are right minimum an hour should be 20 quid or more as you are classed as skilled and for how much it cost to become a driver what with medical, CPC, Taco Cards and all the other crap needed just to start a job. and that's only if your able find a job that a non English speaking driver is not taking the work
