By the time I reached Arsenal Gear, I hadn't slept since I stood in line to buy the game. I literally thought I was hallucinating. I thought I was having a fever dream due to sleep deprivation. That, or I thought Kojima had put a timer into the game that forces you to take a break when you've been playing for too long (by making Rose and The Colonel glitch out).

_Metal Gear Solid 2_ is a never-ending dialogue between the game, the medium, and the player. It's fascinating how different people have a different take on it. I for one love your emphasis on perspective (literally the first/third person perspective of the game) and the story.

Your videos put me on the verge of crying, especially this and the first mgs2 video. That's a good thing. Thank you very much

Listening to this video I realized that, as cheesy as it sounds, you seem a decent amount like Raiden as a person. Not as a killer, but as a person who had memes of other people (the expectations of being a man) imposed on them only to discard the ones that you didn't need and create whole new memes (your new, better and healthier life that you personally chose knowing that it would be better for you)

That is very obviously the reason she likes the game so much. Raiden is even sexually ambiguos, which might not mean something specific, but it is ambiguously fitting.

I absolutely love the idea of third/first person gameplay being a gain/loss of control for Raiden. You managed to make a video essay on MGS2 that feels completely unique among a sea of other MGS2 video essays. Also, the production quality on the green screen stuff is top notch

…except that the entire idea falls apart when you consider the usage of first-person with Snake during the Tanker section at the beginning of the game.

Amazing analysis and an unheard take (at least by me) on all the mechanics and characters relations in one of the most compelling videogame ever concieved. Apart the conclusion, in which I disagree, that there is not an absolute truth (there is, but we can't fully understand it, because of our limited minds, scopes and perceptions), Metal Gear Solid 2 is one of the most philosophical and cultural relevant piece of art of all time. Thank you so much.

There is something to leadhead's videos that has aways made me unbelievably hyped when I saw a new one drop!

Your exploration of different forms of media through the lens of your personal relation to it ensures uniqueness, it's why your videos are always so fascinating to watch whether or not I'm familiar with the things you're analysing. Great stuff!

I honestly love that you put your subjective experience into your videos. It allows people to see things from an alternative perspective. But also, it allows someone to live through you and get a second experience. Someone might play these games and look at it through a different lense, allowing them to experience the game all over again as if it was semi-fresh. Keep doing what you're doing.

Finally, I'm able to watch this video from start to finish, and I gotta say.. I was worth it, that was an amazing analysis!

Holy shit what an amazing analysis. You just turned one of my favorite games into more of a favorite. And that's the funny thing -- MGS2 is one of my favorites, but I kinda hated playing through it at the time. I had played MGS3 and MGS1 prior to that, and 2 felt like it was trying too hard to be MGS1 and failing by not being it's own thing. But then the game starts to break the fourth wall, and the ending comes, and it's just pure catharsis. Not because the ending redeemed the rest of the game, but because it justifies the whole game -- it *is* trying to be MGS1, not because it's easy, but because it has something to say about it. The amazing thing is, your video made me finally understand why. It made me realize that the game design and semioptics conveyed its intended messages and emotions so clearly, even a 13 year old boy from Brasil who didn't quite understood english 100% yet felt it. Thank you for sharing such amazing videos with us! Your channel is one of my favorites here

With your 1st vs 3rd person take, if it were any other game series I'd say it was a stretch. But since its Kojima, who is often very deliberate in his merging design with his philosophical musings, I'm inclined to think you might be onto something here.

I like the idea of the first person/3rd person player/character split, however, the hitch here being that you also have access to first person for Snake during the tanker chapter.

one of my fave parts of mgs2 is right near the end when gw are like "lol we arent even AIs, we're instead a set of self replicating memes forming under the white house." This idea is immediately dropped to make gw an AI that can be destroyed but if mgs2 was gonna be the actual last mgs game then making ur final villain be a living ideology is a really fun and wild swing. mgr:r is really the only one to pick it up by being like "yea the war economy is still here. Have fun killing the current iteration of it, we'll see you next time"

Three months ago, in my life I only played MGS1. Thanks to you, Leadhead, I just HAD to go through MGS2 and move on to MGS3 (which I JUST finished!!!). Thanks for your dedication and all the effort you put into your essays! It's a delight to delve deeper into such masterpieces as these games are, with some help from well-versed-and-sorta-perfectionist people like you (takes one to know one!). Keep it up gurl!

MGS2 still one of my all time favorite video games, even 20 years after i played it for the first time. The title screen music still gets stuck in my head. The dialoge still resonates. Its jusy the perfect blend of spy thriller military science fiction bordering on the military cyberpunk future. Anyways just a little thought. I love this game. Thanks for the video.

i never played any of the mgs games, but still this series is very interesting anyway. It is not about the game analysed, it's about the Leadheads we made along the way.

If you haven't played signalis, you should. It has a similar "subjectivity" to it. It's really cool.

The third/first person interpretation is radical. Love it.

Don't think I didn't notice some of the cyclical writing in this and subsequent scripts. Very gesamtkunstwerk that your mega-video parts about a series obsessed with repeating itself repeats its own beats. A+, no notes.

So....I'd never played MGS before I played MGS2. My first run through started at the Plant. I had no idea who Snake was; I'm really, really glad that I had that experience because it was very different.
