He was not the one responsible for her villages destruction, he knew it was going to happen and let it happen . It was a mistranslation basically. She wanted to kill him at first but let it go later.

Regarding Ram and Ros, (I prefer Garf and Ram tbh) but I this is how I understand it. Basically there are 2 sides of Ros, normal and echidna-obsessed. For the most part, we've seen echidna-obsessed side due to the fact that Subaru has been a part of Ros' plan. We've seen glimpses of normal Ros, and Ram, who has spent many years with that Ros, likes the normal Ros and is doing all of this to cut the echidna-obsession out of him. There are 2 more reasons that I believe this Ram's love makes more sense, but these are purely speculation. 1) Ram (and everyone else) has forgotten about Rem, so Ram has become more dependent on Ros AND likely didn't have much of a connection to the rest of her village, in the Rem flashback we see that Ram loves/protects Rem from the expectations of the village, with that memory absent, Ram probably remembers not really being close to her village. 2) Ros oversells how much involvement he has in the destruction of Ram's village. I'll be honest, this one could be 'cope' to make the ship seem more normal, but the only thing we see Ros do is carry Ram after the battle. It's possible that Ros didn't have any direct involvement in the destruction of Ram's village and moreso just 'took advantage' of an attack that he knew was going to occur

Ros knew the attack on the demon village and he didn't interfered then he saved the oni sisters then made them his servant. He didn't prevented the attack while having the knowledge of it. I would say that ros probably followed the gospel's instructions and rest is history

While Roswell claims that he was responsible for the destruction of Ram’s village, further context from the novels explain that he was not involved in the attack, but rather knew of the impending attack because of his gospel yet did nothing to stop it despite being powerful enough to do so because his gospel only told him to save the twins. In that regard, Roswall does share in the responsibility to a degree although he was not the perpetrator. In essence, you could say that his slothfulness killed them by doing nothing.

There's also the fact that they didn't show what Echidna's eyes really looks like (the flashback to the time Echidna was with Roswall and Betty + this episode Emilia mentioning who is this person because she didn't recognize Echidna real face). Both Minerva or Echidna could be Emilia's mother, or someone else that they know.

One little detail I like is that the insert song played at the end is sung by Ram's VA.

Extra details on Elsa that are non spoiler: Although Garfiel calls her a vampire but in actuallity she is a cursed dolled. Unknown is vampires do exist. The reason why they call her a vampire is because once a cursed doll drank someone's blood. Not because of vampire tendecies just the persons own craziness

I don't thing Ram's love is meant to be seen as a healthy type of love, it was meant to shock Roswall and his view of the world but not as something to say aww about, and about it being out of nowhere or being logical... Well we haven't seen how was Ram's life with him all these years, and there is the Rem situation and other details about the past that can be factors in Ram's feelings, and lastly there is the 'love doesn't work on logic'

So, about Ram: -Roswaal just knew about attack yet let them die. Its being guilty by inaction, like watching someone make a safety mistake in workplace & not warning them causing disaster. -Ram knew about this hence hated roswaal as child, but then saw his other side of the majority of moments when not following the book & being a decent ruler: he's in charge of a lot of people and area. and always kept them happy & safe which in this world is quite the feat. -She realised he's actually a pretty good human, except when following the book is when he turns inhuman -She doesn't have her memories about sister anymore. So its more like a damsel in distress when roswaal only saved her. She never had a sister to love or care about, so after s1 end most of that probably went towards roswaal.

Due to Rem's existence being erased, Roswaal has become nearly the only person Ram has interacted with those past ten years (and maybe Frederica, I don't remember how long ago she had left the mansion). We don't know to what extend this rewrote her feelings towards him, it's possible he has become the recipient of some of the affection she had for her sister.

Ram's love is supposed to be pretty unsettling/uncomfortable. Lots of good comments adding context, but I think most importantly it's good to remember love is a messy thing and is rarely rational. Plenty of people in toxic or even abusive relationships struggle to detach. Stockholm syndrome is a thing. So don't think Ram's is being put up on a pedestal here. There are a LOT of "bad" examples of love in Re:Zero. Subaru's obsession with and infantilizing of Emilia for most S1 and 2. Rem's guilt towards Ram which was translated into Rem's almost obsession with dying for Subaru. Envy's obsession with Subaru. Guese's love for Satella. I think all of these are meant to be BAD examples to mirror and play off of for the arching theme of "love".

Ange thinking that Minerva is actually Emilia's mother is actually crazy. I will say that that theory has been around for a while but it has not yet been confirmed. What we do know is that all the witches of course were alive in this world at some point, and that Satella, or rather, The Witch of Envy, killed them all.

1) Ram's affections for Roswaal amplifying all of a sudden are a direct result of the existence of Rem being erased. In this timeline, Ram has nobody else to lean on. 2) Roswaal doesn't kill Ram's villagers, but he doesn't stop the Witch Cult from doing it either. He knows it will happen because it is written in his Tome of Wisdom and knows that the outcome would be more advantageous for him. 3) Despite his craziness, he has a nice side we hardly get to see from Subaru's perspective. When he isn't forced to carry out evil deeds in the name of Echidna, he's a decent lord and an ambitious leader who has worked hard to become the strongest magic user in the region. Keep in mind that there are ALWAYS bigger powers at play in Re Zero than what we get to see and that goes for the character personalities too. 4) We like to judge her confession of love from our modern perspective of mutual respect and nice personality traits etc but at the end of the day it is quite a twisted love indeed. Ram feels pity for him and wants him to return to his happy self.

I think the whole situation is supposed to be a bit messed up and uncomfortable, but part of that is the point. Roswaal has done a lot of bad things in the past, or at least been close to them; and he feels like he's failed at protecting everyone he valued the most. So he feels that he is weak and reprehensible, utterly unlovable. But Ram loves him anyways. Right or wrong, she thinks she can see a likeable man under his self-hating act (the makeup and voice imitating one who he hates) and his despair. His disbelief that anyone could love him is part of why he's stuck 400 years in the past, unable to move on and see or care for those actually around him now. So she's forcing the issue by burning the gospel, showing that she wants to strip away that damaged part of him and is willing to sacrifice even her life to do so. But yes, Rem's love confession, which this mirrors, was quite a bit better :)

1) Roswaal didn't destroy/kill Ram's village. It is a mistranslation. What he meant was that he knew about the Witch cult's attack(most likely due to his Gospel), but didn't do anything to prevent it in order to get what he wanted(onis on his side). 2) Ram don't give a shit about her village/villagers. She don't even care about her parents. And it is not an exagaration. She simply don't care about them, she cares only about Rem. And Rem was saved by Roswaal. 3) Now that the Rem is gone due to the gluttony authority, the strong feelings Ram had for Rem had to go somewhere, and guess where did it go?

Roswaal blames himself for not preventing the witch cult from slaughtering them, but his entire worldview was that Echidna is this perfect being so I'm not sure he even thinks he could change the future from the book. He sees it as hopeless if it departs from it with Subaru there. As Ram says, that's the sort of "delusion" he lives under around the book of wisdom's replica. And Ram would die without being given mana by him every night, it's not like he could completely heal her but doesn't, he's basically the only person who could keep her alive because her horn can't take mana from the atmosphere to sustain her body without it(mana here is like oxygen).

I agree the Ram thing feels a little weird but it's showing that she has moved past her trauma. Big theme of season 2 is people learning to move on and find new happiness. Emilia confronted her past and is ready to pursue new goals. Subaru grappled with his feelings towards his past life and parents and discovered his new self worth. Roswaal has never been able to move past losing his teacher for 400 years, while Ram in a short period of time got past losing her home and found a new love and that flies in the face of everything Roswaal has been doing for centuries now.

Related to Ange's comment about not liking the Ram love stuff, I just have one thing to say: ."That's all this story is about"

Emilia doesn’t have her dad’s eyes (and Mother Fortuna’s eyes)… that’s why last episode when she saw her reflection in the water, she said it was a shame didn’t look as much like Mother Fortuna as she wished. Supporting Ange’s theory, take a look at Minerva’s eyes and compare them to Emilia.

This episode is truly insane. It's hard to come up with an anime episode that has as many character payoffs as this one.

People already explained how without Rem in her life it makes more sense that Ram switches her affection to Roswall after taking her in etc. etc. and how that explains things and personally i agree with both sides here, i can see it happening but at the same time if they do build more on this in the future it will always seem a little off to me

I want to point out that Roswaal isn't responsible for the destruction of Ram's village. That's just a translation issue and Roswaal exaggerating as an attempt to trigger Ram during the fight. He just knew it was going to happen because it was written in the gospel/tome of wisdom that he had. The tome of wisdom also said that he shouldn't interfere but that he needed to rescue Rem and Ram and allowed them to live in the mansion. Ram resented Roswaal at first for not doing anything to save her village but later on realized that Roswaal has a side that is mostly a normal guy but also a side that is obsessed with Echidna. Because of that other side, Roswaal literally only does what the tome of wisdom tells him to do all the time. As a result (and as she spent time with the normal side of Roswaal) she eventually led that anger go and fell in love with him. Which is why she said that, in her eyes, the tome of wisdom is the root of all evil. Otherwise Roswaal wouldn't have allowed something like that to happen.

Hope u guys see this!! Actually, ram’s love is kind of stockholm syndrome-y! she despised him at first for letting the destruction happen to her village. he wasn’t responsible for it but the book told him about the destruction that’s gonna happen, but he didn’t stop it and only went to go pick up rem and ram (cuz for some reason the book told him ram and rem are gonna be important in achieving his goal i think?). An oni’s horn takes in mana from the atmosphere, but since ram’s horn got cut off she couldn’t do that, and a person needs mana to survive. so roswaal would give her mana everyday for like 10 years, it’s what you see him doing in episode 5 or 4 in season 1 i think! and while being given mana, ram would be freed from all the chronic pain she endures everyday due to her horn getting cut off. it’s probably why she fell in love, she associates the feeling of relief from her pain with roswaal and her pain is very very serious! it’s why she barely does any chores throughout the show, she physically can only do so much. The reason why she bleeds too sometimes in a fight is because she uses whatever is left of her horn temporarily, but since it basically takes the amount of mana that roswaal gives her everyday, she gets weak immediately after. Also about her love for roswaal, there was a side story too about it, even rem felt it was weird when she realized her sister liked roswaal lol. but in season 1 you could see that roswaal wasn’t her only reason for living, she still had rem. in season 2 (technically 1 but we find out in season 2) rem got erased! so her love for roswaal probably multiplied a lot and turned into an obsessive and unhealthy type of love. i think it’s interesting how the two sisters are both very heavily dependent on another person for love in different ways, rem mentally and ram physically. Don’t worry tho cuz ram’s love is probably never gonna be reciprocated cuz roswaal loves echidna.

if you read the original series (which is light novel) it might not come as sudden for ram and roswaal i assume

Hey, 200k! Subaru's idea of a dust explosion isn't stupid but he doesn't know enough about how they work. You need dust and the dust has to be FLAMMABLE. Flour burns, household dust might burn but not very well. Then it has to be spread out so it's in JUST the right ratio to the oxygen. You miss that part and you'll get nothing or an entertaining but harmless puff. 5:01 I have to assume that every line in her trial is a line of dialogue from future seasons. Talk about a tease! 8:55 In one of the "Break Time" mini-episodes you get some Elsa and Maylie backstory.

It is rare case,but Roswall is actualy the person that could help against the cult and protect them when normally no1 would be held accountable,since nobody can fight the whole cult by themselves. Also that oni village was in Roswall's domain,so he kinda has responsibilities to it. A lot was cut from the novel. Long story short Ram hated him at first more because of how he sold her this story. He felt truly guilty for listening to the Tome of Wisdom. So he kept saying he is the worst and that she can take revange on him when he will accomplish his goal. That gave him solace,that he will be punished in the end. But Ram grew up, began thinking for herself and see diffrent side of Ros, also she understood he had not as big part in whole affair as she tought at the start,so her hatred faded. Also in books it was shown Ram actually was not happy in her village and did not love anyone there besides Rem. She was treated as a goddess and she is happier being "normal". She did not even miss her parents. And she was thinking similarly in the book before she forgot Rem.

BTW, Ros did not attack the village, he just stood his ground and did nothing to help coz the book told him to only attack when the girls alone. Finally, Emilia is half elf from her father side so her mom should be human.

I guess that Ram confession was directed wrong, like, she just has these feelings for him because Rem doesn't exist, she might have some feeling for him, but not that far, so that's a more fucked up moment for me than anything, I mean, everybody not even remember or comment about this

I agree that the Ram moment was uncalled for and I would prefer it didn’t happen, whatever justification someone might give it. I don’t have an issue as much with it happening in AoT because in that case it was presented as something wrong that Ymir needed to be freed from, but in this case with the triumphant music playing over her confession it feels strange. I love Re:Zero this is one moment I can’t get behind.

I agree with your opinion overall, but I just wanted to say that the music in that scene isn't meant to be triumphant. The song is called "What You Don't Know" and is sung in character by Ram's voice actor. It's basically Ram lamenting that Roswaal will never understand or accept her feelings.

From a narrative perspective, nothing short of a form of love would justify Ram wanting to save Roswall so bad. It doesn't stop it from being weird, even with the explanation given to us in the comments.
