@@ModernAegis to be fair, the real issue was there wasn't a rating system for videogames at the time. The government basically gave the budding gaming industry at the time an ultimatum to either regulate their own games or the government would do it for them. At the same time, it was the best free advertisement Mortal Kombat could ask for. Considering it was just a hokey fighting game based off a cancelled Jean Claude Van Damme movie

@@ModernAegis Johnny Cage was made to be a parody of Van Damme from Bloodsport and Liu Kang was based on Bruce Lee from Enter the Dragon. Kano was inspired by Terminator, Raiden from the elemental warriors in Big Trouble in Little China, and Sonya was inspired by Cynthia Rothrock and Sarah Conner. Scorpion and Subzero were just made because they needed to fill two character slots and decided to use the same actor in different color costumes to save time and money since literally 4 people worked on the game.
