The MOST IMPORTANT THING for a video conference setup!

The user "abcrawf" asked for a good premium meeting setup on a budget, so here you go!
But if you want to know where you don't need to necessarily spend the money, you of course need to know what component is the most important one. The answer is rather surprising and can be said about most visual media: It's actually the sound. As an editor you even learn the 80-20 rule. 80% of a movie is the sound, and only 20% the picture.
This is an ongoing battle for sound engineers. It's honestly kind of cursed, because when the sound is bad everyone will notice. But exceptional sound rarely gets the recognition it deserves.
Anyway, try the experiment! Watch one trailer without the image, only the sound, and one without the sound but with the image. You'll see which one left a lasting impression!

Our videos and VLOGs are about our journey to New Work. And since New Work is about the things that we really, really want to do it's an exciting journey that is nowhere near the end.
I am one of the crew members and founder at BLACKBOAT. A digital consultancy specialized in New Work and Cloud Collaboration. www.blackboat.com. In this role I am also quite frequently on stage as a keynote speaker (www.christophmagnussen.com). But my true passion is filmmaking. You will see a lot about this topic this year. We are currently building something new!

At our company everyone has a macbook. We actually found out that the internal mic plus speakers of the MacBook is the goat combination. No Bluetooth latency and the mic is awesome in filtering out the speakers and most background sounds. Everytime we have meetings with customers their setup sounds way worse and is most of the time initially setup wrong by zoom/teams ...

Thank you for the recommendation on the mic. I am in the market for a better quality microphone for video conferencing.
