It's not a big mystery, Cates grew up super rich if you look at her background, she was going to play Steve Martin's daughter in Father of the Bride but dropped out because she got pregnant, she basically retired from acting in 1994 because she wanted to raise kids, she got involved in other businesses, Her and Kevin Kline live in NY, don't seem to want be in that Hollywood lifestyle, Kevin Kline even stopped doing mainstream movies and they damn sure didn't need the money. She did her final movie in 2001 because it was written and directed by Fast Times co-star/buddy Jennifer Jason Leigh. The point being is Cates turned down a lot of big roles, she had the looks and talent but not everyone wants that lifestyle.

Erica Eleniak coming out of the cake in Under Siege was the "most important" nude scene for me during my formative years.

Simmons keeps asking why Hot 80s Actress didn't have a "bigger" career, but in the case of Phoebe Cates a little more internet research would've explained that she probably had the career she wanted before she married Kevin Kline; after "Gremlins" she did a lot more stage work (which she found more rewarding), then supporting roles in film, before "retiring" to raise their family. She was originally cast in the role of Steve Martin's daughter in "Father of the Bride" (which ended up being Kimberly Williams' film debut) but dropped out due to being pregnant.

I was a kid at that time, but the scene I was more into was Apollonia in "Purple Rain," maybe because, unlike Phoebe's scene, Judge Reinhold wasn't being distracting.

It's not "the most important" but rather "the most famous (infamous)" along with the police questioning scene in Basic Instinct. The defining qualities are 1, absolutely everyone's seen them and 2, the actresses involved were ridiculously extra extra beautiful in those scenes.

Joyce Hyser in Just One of the Guys would be up there and Melaine Griffth in Something Wild.

The only other contender for most rewound scene has to be Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, though that doesnt technically qualify as a nude scene. And i dont know if its long enough to qualify for the category mallory is suggesting.
