Cool fact: the voice actors for GHPC are retired and active US Army soldiers (M1 Abrams crewmen). As well the gunnery commands they state ("GUNNER, SABOT, TANK! TRAVERSE LEFT!", "TARGET!.. As a retired M1A1/M1A2 Series Tank commander, This is about as real as you can get in a sim. The only issue I have with it is the sensitivity when it comes to firing the missles or even the reticle of Host Nations like russia. Im used to the reticles we have on our Abrams which I can estimate range easy. Not to mention that each of those sights are boresighted prior to going on mission as part of the PCC's and PCI's back when I was in. Its mandatory for gunnery to actually Boresight the main gun and then the Gas sight for precision target shooting as you get two engagements in gunnery that require the usage of of the gas sight. I still say Steelbeasts Pro PE does a better job at replicating real combat scenarios as it has both UK, USSR, US and other host nation vehicles, along with being able to CFF and also use CAS and UAV/ISR assets. also has the same damage effect as you would sustain in real combat from a hydraulic leak, fuel leak to losing a crew and going down to a three man or even two man crew. The optics are exactly Identical to the real vehicles so that there is no confusion at all...GHPC has done an outstanding job. Hopefully they can and will add more vehicles in the near future. Cool Fact: The M113 with the Tow is in fact the M901 ITV Hammerhead. The M1 Abrams you was on is the M1 with the 105mm and the bags you were referencing to on the Commander's side are actually Camouflage Nets. Each Tank carries at least 2 of those which is why the bag is large.

In real life, Abrams optics are too exposed and were found to be damaged by explosions. In real life Abrams, the space between turret and hull is a projectile magnet which feeds enemy rounds into the hull. An Abrams gets 13 hours of idle turret time on a full tank, compared to other designs, which get 40+ hours for far less fuel. In real life, an 83 ton M1A2C will sink into the ground. It's all well and good to play with a fully fueled Abrams inserted into the battle, with a non-deforming terrain. If you want an accurate Abrams simulator, you're looking at something more like Mud Runner with an M88.

a HEAT round to the russian vehicles were devastating due to the fact that soviet tanks had ammo on the turret and turret rings. so when it hit the turret it would ammo rack the vehicle causing catastrophic effects. The fight you was talking about when the Abrams was used in Desert Storm was the Battle for 73 Easting. 2nd ACR's engagement. Also keep in mind that in Desert storm the M1A1 Abrams (120mm) was used and not the M1 Abrams (105mm). Minimum range for Sabot engagements were 1200M and You can engage targets out past the effective range of 2500M. Soviet vehicles had an effective range of 2000M which is why our tanks out ranged the Soviets. The other thing was that Soviets didnt really have night vision to engage targets in the cover of darkness. Having a TIS was one hell of an advantage on the Abrams when it came to target engagement at night. later down the road, the M1A1SA has .50 CAL CIWS with night thermal and it was the only version of the Abrams at the time that the Crew serve weapon was able to be used at night. Eventually the M1A2 SEPv2 came with the CROWS and the rest is history.

Ammo location matters, yes. However, if you get penetrated by a HEAT shell, I believe you do not care as everyone inside the tank is dead. The turret popping off is caused by the ammo placement, it however does not matter to the end result.

Also won't be of any use when the missile you just launched doesn't work because the laser is fried lmao Could be the power supply or different frequencies and intensities of the laser, one is just to designate and the other needs to relay information

The Abrams first battle was against T-72's. The enemy didn't know what GPS was at the time so they were angled and orientated incorrectly as we came from a place that nobody traveled into since it was nothing but sand with no ability to cross it effectively without gps. We also had laser range finders, it allowed for us to shoot at them accurately from much further away and with thermals and better night vision technology we could see them in harsh conditions such as sand storms and at night.

I was MI then but a TX ARNG M1 TC later in the late 90's and you mentioned the thermals...we could see deer and cattle in the training areas on Ft Hood out miles and even see a dude's pee against a cold background in the woods half a mile out with the 10x main gun sight. Crazy.

the IFV combat in this game is insane too, switching between the auto-cannon & ATGM's to take out everything from armor to helicopters attempting to kill you is one hell of an experience. bought it on a whim today and spent all of my sunday familiarizing myself with the M2 Bradley, quite the experience especially since its on sale for the remainder of this weekend.

I was in Ghost troop 2/2 ACR in the battle of 73 easting during "desert storm". The first kill was point blank. That was either my tank or our plt leaders. A lot was happening at the time, which is a whole story unto itself. The long shots happened toward the end of the battle. My gunner hit a target at 4700 meters. Took him a few tries, but he landed it. The main body of the Tawakalna republican guard tank force was made up of T-72's. The 12th Armored Division and 9th Armored Brigade had a mixture of older tanks.

I am absolutely in love with this game, even in its early development stages it has a lot of potential and is super fun. I love the tiny details that wouldn't matter to most, for example I love the kill feed that explains where your rounds hit/what damage occurred, and the after action reports so you can understand what your rounds did (Reminds me of sniper elite, and also War Thunder, but please don't hate on me for mentioning WT, I play that game as well, so I understand).

I’ve been supporting this games development on Patreon for a while. Great team who so frequent dev streams to keep in touch with their community. Definitely consider supporting them with a purchase. In future updates they plan on adding CAS support (non-playable, you just call them in on a grid square) and more nations too. Next I believe they’re adding Soviet Russia with T-80’s and later the Brundeswehr with Leopard 1’s etc. Lots of potential here :).

Spall are fragments of metal that flake off from the inside of surface of a vehicles hull but typically stay within their compartment of origin. Still very dangerous. Those x-ray views are showing the penetration from the round itself. Spalling can happen with or without round penetration but once that HEAT enters the crew cabin, spalling obviously becomes less of a concern.

It’s easier when using the Malyutka is aim the crosshair on target and before launching drag down to around the cross at the bottom of the sight. The missile naturally goes upwards so you have to adjust constantly. And it’s not advised to use the missile from below 500 meters in my experience.

The NBC protection found within Soviet vehicles was actually a pretty cool design that would've given safe haven from immediate effects from nuclear detonations since the Soviet Union absolutely assumed that some aspects of their society and ground forces would survive a nuclear exchange which would mean that a ground war would be inevitable after the bombs fell.
