The Neimoidian species are one of the most important in all of Star Wars history. See how they rose to power from diseased grubs to become a Galactic Superpower that rivaled the Republic and would be one of the most powerful organizations in the CIS, with the Trade Federation, that would come to change the course of galactic history.

    The battle droid thing is kind of interesting, and highlights some of the problems with aliens in science fiction. If the droids were designed to look like dead Neimoidians, then an army of battle droids would look like an army of terminator robots to other Neimoidians, which would inspire fear the way you'd want in an army that's not really designed to destroy but to capture and enslave the enemy. But to anyone who isn't a Neimoidian, they're just a bunch of dorky-looking robots with bad firing accuracy.

  • @videocrowsnest5251

    While I do agree with ya on most things here and it is interesting- I think one of the issues with B1 battledroids, and appreciating just how dangerous they are, comes down to us being used to seeing them from the angle of either Jedi, or clones. It's easy to forget a B1 battledroids could tear an organics head clean off with its bare hands. They definitely were symbols of fear and terror, and did kill countless beings. I think another thing that does not help the B1's reputation is that they are not meant to be thought of as individual units, such as "this is a clone/human soldier", but more as "Here are a few thousand B1's this landing craft just spat out all marching towards you shooting continuously." Ergo, the biggest strength of battledroids is quantity over quality, but because of both the point of view we are given (Jedi/clones), plus how we as the audience due to being humans fixate on individual people (especially in the very individualistic west with no shortage of super soldiers, one man army characters, and what have you to look at in Star wars alone), it makes them seem like jokes when a protagonist takes out a hundred without breaking a sweat. When in reality, a hundred droids dismantled means nothing, and there are exponentially more already off the assembly line and ready to come a blasting. Were such a force dropped off/being dropped into the real world, humanity would very quickly be clankered out of existence, as they just keep coming with (from our point of view) endless numbers unless one figures out a way to stop the flow. Basically - Zerg rush tactics are easy to play down and laugh at when you got the good seats and some popcorn. Not so fun if you actually consider the implications and how absolutely devastating numbers actually are. After a certain point - Quantity usually beats quality, every single time. And there is in reality no such thing as a fair fight, so yea...B1's alone are way deadlier than they get given credit for. I do wish there was some Star Wars Media that showed an actual battle where the CIS droid army just wins by grinding an opponent to dust with numbers, as they are designed to do. Sure, they get mentioned, but to see what it actually looks like when the battledroids keep coming no matter what you hurl at them and just how brutal it is to deal with would do wonders to clean up misconceptions about battledroids...and B1's too. It would also be quite a nice change of pace, plus obviously quite a dark story too. No last hurraahs for the good guys, no plot armour, no clever comebacks, just the sheer horror of an army of battledroids endlessly coming at the defenders until the line they are holding is broken, and the droids begins their real rampage no matter what traps, tricks, or deceptions are used. Blow up a hundred, and a thousand come marching in.

    @dplocksmith91 you seem to have a major misunderstanding of the war in Ukraine. Your comment implies that you think Ukraine defending bahkmut somehow counters the idea of 'quantity over quality'. The thing is ukrainian soldiers out number Russian soldiers, by alot. According to both sides.

  • @matthiuskoenig3378

    @matthiuskoenig3378

    In other words, the war in Ukraine only reinforces the idea that quantity beats quality (since the average training time for most of the war was in favour of Russia). Ofcaurse things are changeing. Russia's mobilisation is reducing their average quality of their forces while increasing their quantity. (while Western trained Ukrainians are binging to finish their training and returning to Ukraine increasing their average quality). Although Russian numbers are still lower than Ukraine (who has already gone through 7 rounds of mobilisation, which is why their troops are so numerous). And this is before we look at other factors.

    @@videocrowsnest5251 So basically, the Battle Droids were a good idea on paper that were unfortunately poorly adapted to their particular universe, as the army of one-man armies that was the Republic were natural predators for the pawns of a Separatist movement that ultimately existed to be the disposable patsy of another one-man army who was determined to be Emperor of the entire galaxy of one-man armies. Maybe if they had been born into, say, a universe about helpless characters written by a less individualistic culture such as an Eastern one as opposed to the individualistically-minded Western ones, the battle cry of "Roger, Roger" would trigger fear and surrender instead of laughter and cooing "aww, lookit the robots that look like Jar Jar, they're trying to hit the broadside of a barn, how cute".

    I once had an original Star Wars story in the works that featured a Neimoidian character. It was set after the Clone Wars, and said character actually befriended an ex-clone and turned bounty hunters together trying to survive in a galaxy that wanted them dead, along with searching for the Neimoidian's lost daughter. The two learned to overcome their biases against each other and formed a bond that lasted years. I kinda miss writing about them :')

They were a cannibalistic race that conquered the galaxy 50,000+ years before The Phantom Menace started, and when their victims fought back, they'd nuke the entire planet! Tattoonie was one such planet. The Tusken Raiders used to be a quiet, peaceful race who lived on a green planet with water and forests and everything, but after the Rakata had nuked their world into a permanent desert, the survivors were mutated/evolved into the savages they are now. Apparently the Rakata made themselves extinct, but the damage they caused remains all these millennia later.

  • @ThePalaeontologist
    @ThePalaeontologist Жыл бұрын

    I have wondered sometimes if the Neimoidians are named in part, after Nematode worms. They are often parasitic to host bodies. It is a bit of a stretch if Lucas was flicking through some Zoology/Biology book for inspirations on the names of the species in the Star Wars prequels, but it does seem a little close. Nematode sounds vaguely akin to Neimoidian, especially if you pronounce Neimoidian like, 'Ney-moy-dee-an' or 'Nee-moy-dee-an'. Perhaps 'Nem-oy-dee-an' or 'Neem-oy-dee-an' also work. I've heard 'Nye-moy-dee-an' only rarely, including your pronunciation. It's probably just a coincidence but looking at Nematode worms it isn't hard to imagine the visuals of those creatures somewhat informing the Neimoidians nomenclature. Yes, the Neimoidians are more or less Amphibian inspired humanoids, though the grub part of the life cycle does seem more insectoid and grubs are by their very nature in larval form, more worm like. Worms in general are lower life-forms in the grand scheme of things in terms of complexity but a worm mind you, is far more advanced than a single-celled bacteria as far as the evolution of life goes (at least, on Earth, in the real world) Just saying...

    I have some random questions about the same subject. Are the Rattataki still canon? What's the lore on Rattatak currently? And were the first generation of the Night Sisters of Dathomir Rattataki (especially since the Rattataki were, at one time, Republic humans who migrated to the once vacant world)? I know there's stipulations about the Rattataki and the Night Sisters of Dathomir. I watched your video about the Zabraks and it's stated that they were all female humans, but after breeding with Zabraks, they officially became Dathomirians. I'm just a little confused about the Rattataki at this stage in Star Wars lore. Maybe it could make for a potential future video?
