I find that a little weird, the no eye contact and the way the booth is setup like that, hiding the face of the employee and speaking through the open gap.

For those wondering, unaware, or haven’t heard about the part at 3:16, there was an incident a few months ago involving three pranksters making a video about them licking a bottle of soy sauce at a sushi restaurant

It was more than that, they took sushi off of the conveyor 🍣 and licked it then put it back. Also spit in stuff, etc.

the paper at 10:29 has some funny text that isn't fully translated "However, our company representive was persistent in saying 'What if the toilet paper runs out anyway and inconveniences our customers?', so we've prepared a secret weapon. *In the small chance that the toilet paper runs out, rip this paper.*" (referring to the notice itself)

I am in love with this restaurant bro 😭😭😭

The solo dining booths allow each person to fully immerse themselves in the experience and enjoy the flavor of the food itself without any outside distractions. In some instances, I'd rather go to a place like this during lunchtime instead of a crowded restaurant where you have to listen to annoying loud conversations from ppl sitting next to you. This is a relaxing, yet introverted dining respite. What a fantastic idea!

yeah but on the other hand social interactions are good for development of a persons personality. I find Japan sometimes to be unhealthy in this aspect. Because i cant find the reason for 0 eye contact or even speak to them.I have also seen that in other establishments. I think Japan is a perfect country for introverted people but sometimes they take it too far in my opinion of course.

It is very dangerous for people , who cant(mostly DONT WANT TO INTERACT WITH OTHERS, DUE TO THEIR IQ=5) All people must interact with each other in this places like that. If u dont want to speak with waiter- stay in ur house and just make an order from this restaurant.

@@Sonasic You don't really know much about Japan, I mean Japan is well known for its heavy social interaction culture between peers in the workplace. The reason why you feel this way is that you mostly visited these tourist spots. While in these more remote regions, people are as nice and socialising as everywhere else towards their customers, especially the locals. Japanese got poor english and you don't need to wonder why they don't seem to be interactive in tourist spots. You can see how the printed materials in Ichiran in this video are printed in english to server tourists. Don't make stories with your ignorance

This is an introvert dream. I don't mind having to talk to order but it's nice that they have all the options in case you don't. Maybe you're just on a bad day, you don't want to talk much. Also the individual booth with the curtains is just... I can understand it can be claustrophobic for social people but for introverts it's just amazing. Absolutely no distractions!

From a service perspective, it's nice being able to just focus on crafting the best possible meals without having to do as much on the service end! A real win-win.

Thank you for this video. I’ve seen a few KZread videos set in various Ichiran locations, including this one, but none of them made me a part of the experience, from standing in line, to the instructions and visuals, to the new touch-screens for ordering. You never take anything for granted in your videos and answer so many unasked questions; in how you film and present what you’re experiencing to all of us, to the overlooked details and customs that someone living in a culture might take for granted when communicating with those not from that culture. Thank you for your awareness and understanding and for bringing us along with you. kindly, 🙏

I've seen other videos of Ichiran but they didn't go into as much detail or show the wooden blocks (I was very curious about those when I saw them in another video). DB's attention to detail (and willingness to order all the items on the menu) is perfect. And all the toilet rolls made me laugh 😂

What would happen if you have them the "it's noisy" board?

I was so curious about that, too! Like, are you just choosing to vent quietly about it by handing that block, or will it cause them to shush the other patrons, or will they offer earplugs or some other helpful device? 🤔 I'm so curious!

Without actually knowing the answer myself, I'm fairly certain that you will be handed some ear plugs that you can either dispose of afterwards or take with you. Everything else, like moving you to a different cabin or interacting with the neighboring customers, would just be too cumbersome to manage by the staff.

So I currently live in Japan and I tired it and they turn a sign in every both to quiet down.

Sometimes when I’m eating dinner on my own or even with my sister, we’ll watch your videos. It gives us a sense of company or that we’re with you in those countries !

Japan is truly something else...

Japan is a really introverted country and its so refreshing and probably like a safe haven for some introverts. A place like this is so considerate. I can't wait to try this out in Japan.

It was another youtuber ( Mike Chen ) that got me curious for ichiran and since then i've made it my mission to share ichiran with as much friends as possible. It might be hyped and overpriced but taste it once and you know why the fans are there. Thank you for all your videos !!

I was in japan last may and im going again for the sakura season next march, i cried so hard watching this video. I miss the taste, the service, the whole atmosphere. Thank you for this video❤

As someone who is really nervous about speaking to people in other languages its so cool so see this restaurant operate the way it does

I thought you were gonna waste the ramen broth, but then I said to myself, " I've never seen this HUMAN waste ANYTHING!" And I was right. Nice way to utilize the extra broth👏👏👏👏 **So I changed the pronoun from MAN to HUMAN. We can all agree on that! Geez! At first, I was confused by the prospect of a "vending machine restaurant" but that's actually really cool. Nice to see a place that's very considerate for people's social anxiety and/or shyness. Helps that the food also looks awesome.

Love the concept.

In NYC, but don't bother; they aren't half as good as they are in Japan or SE Asia. Try finding a Ichiran dry noodle kit online- it will be okay; but better than my experience in NYC. That, or just look around for a local Japanese restaurant that isn't just "Sushi" to see if they make tonkotsu ramen. There is a knock-off chain in California called IchiBAN that is pretty good.

I love the blocks that communicate things without speech - as an autistic and socially anxious person I wish this was a more wide spread thing

This is as close to the real experience I will get but I tell you if I could move to a small Japanese village, tend to my garden and then go have ramen everyday and lunch by the river yeah I'd be a very happy man ☺ this looks wonderful. I have really severe social anxiety but I do love going to have a nice meal by myself, I'd love to have one of these places in the states.

I've seen so many videos of this place, the food always looks so good. Luckily, I can actually try this because they have two restaurants in NYC.

I've only ever been to the Ichiran in New York (Times Square), it was okay;. The friend I went with has been to several in Japan and the Causeway Bay Hong Kong one and was clearly disappointed in the US version.

@@isamuominae They have to cook the pork longer, so it's less tender and the eggs aren't as good; but I mostly noticed how much thinner the soup was from what I've seen and the serving was rather anemic.

I hate being stuck here in Serbia.... I spent around three years in China and fell in love with Udon noodles, noodles in general, dumplings of all kinds. I even had Ramen at a Japanese restaurant there. :'( I miss all that.......

to be honest guys, as an introvert person, i really like this place. i will enjoy the food by myself. also, if i have an extra money, not only the ramen i will order, maybe some other menu there. its a heaven to all introvert person.

I went to this exact restaurant when I was on vacation in Japan 7 months ago. It's in Dotomburi in Osaka. It was quite good, but not the best ramen I've had. I did love the private booths, they felt comfortable and fun.

Would love to give this restaurant a try. The food always looks tasty.

Looks almost identical to the booths you sit at when doing food testing at the Oregon State University food research center here in Portland. You never see anything but the hands and arms as they put the food in front of you. Then you use a terminal and answer responses about the food quality etc. Only difference is they have a sliding door instead.

I went to one when I was in Shinjuku last month. It did not disappoint, was just amazing.

Him peeling the egg was most satisfying
