I could only imagine the emotional turmoil and self reflection that causes someone, no matter how good of a person they are. The only thing I can say is, I think you're missing out on witnessing some events. and living some times, that are going to be more interesting than good. I wish you a good journey to wherever we go, when we can no longer stay.

I have the 6X. Used it recently and got absolutely pounded with rain at 9600 feet in the mountains. No leaking through the walls. We did, however, end up with water under the tent due to being in uneven & unlevel ground (basically, we pitched over a puddle). But that stayed outside. And the tent easily withstood 45 mph (measured) wind gusts. We were completely staked out, and eventually I opted to use the Jeep as a wind block. We did not have the stove with us, but our two small dogs enjoyed it!

That's amazing to hear about your experience with the Pomoly Dome X6! It's great to know that it held up well in heavy rain and strong winds. As for the water under the tent, pitching on uneven ground can be a challenge sometimes. Thanks for sharing your feedback! By the way, have you ever considered having a reliable power source during your camping trips? The Segway Portable Poweation Cube Series seems like a great option for outdoor enthusiasts like us. It has a massive capacity, fast recharging, and comprehensive protections. Just thought I'd share this recommendation with you! Happy camping and stay safe out there!

I know I keep beating a dead horse on this one. But the Cabelas Alaskan Gulde 6-man is the go too for dome tents. Its heavy, its big but it is a fortress that will stand up to just about anything. Every problem that you bring up in this review is not a problem with the Alaskan Guide. A full floor so no bugs. Add the floor liner and it is easy to keep clean. Two layers so water pooling is not a problem. More mesh panels that on this tent without the rain fly for summer use. With the rain fly about the same mesh areas as you have here. I have had mine out in downpours with a river running under it, NOT A DROP gets in. To see that tent in a side by side with this one would showoff how good the Alaskan Guide is. It comes in a four, six, and eight-man version. Yes a few more dollars but we all know the old saying. You Get What You Pay For!

I have looked up the Cabelas tent and it looks good. The two tent may look similar but the Cabelas is inner pitch first which I personally don’t like and it’s not a hot tent. The vestibule is cool though.

  • @joedunbarjr

    @joedunbarjr

@hypo345 You are one hundred percent correct. This is not a hot tent. With the full cover, rain fly. I find that a Buddy heater works very well in colder weather. The fact that you must put up the inner first is a drawback. But having a full floor is a good trade-off. I usually pack a composite palette and use the vestibule as a dog house. And like I said, this thing is a fortress. It will handle very heavy rain and a snow load no problem. Every tent has its positives and negative. Anyone looking for a dome tent would be a fool not to consider this one. Also, I would love Luke to do a side by side comparison of these two tents. Thank you for your response. You bring up some very good points.

The only problem I see with the Alaskan Guide tent now is that they discontinued the aluminum pole version, and only offer the fiberglass pole version now. Kind of removed a lot of the heavy durability for the frame. I dont understand why they would do that whem the whole point of the tent is that its supposed to be a fortress.

@lyman135 I am not sure where you get your information. I just went to my computer and to Cabela's website. It clearly shows that the Alaskan Guide 6-Person Tent comes with the 7001 aluminum poles. Please double-check your information before making incorrect comments. Thanks

I didn’t know it leaked, I don’t believe you mentioned this in a previous video. At that time I contacted pomoly if they had a stove jack that wasn’t directly in the path of the door. The response received was a couple stoves offered for purchase, completely not answering my question. Now that I know it also leaks, 700 dollars for this is to much , especially without a built in floor. What a shame, I like the looks of it and set up time doesn’t bother me since I camp a week or so at a time.

Luke said it wasn't a deal breaker, minor leaks towards the bottom and easily fixed with seam tape. Sucks it leaks, but the tent is massive and some spots can be easily missed when its being seam taped by the manufacturer.

@@TheKevinP Contrary to what Luke says, for me this is a major problem. Can you imagine manually seam sealing a tent of this size ? That's a huge job; especially if it's to correct a defect that shouldn't exist in the first place. Seam sealing a one person tent is one thing, doing the same job on a huge two-meter-high tent is quite another.

I've been using pomoly for two years and have had good luck. We bought the 6x for the scouts group and the first thing we changed was buying a bigger tarp cover. Stopped a lot of issues for us plus gave us a cover for at least one door. Tents leak over time anyway, it's just their nature, so always have tape and sealant helps. So everone have a nice Holiday and see you next year.

A few episodes ago, Luke expressed his intention to help the American outdoor industry. The latest episodes of this channel tend to confirm my fears. Luke's opinions seem to become very friendly when it comes to pointing out defects in equipment from American brands. It's a shame, because we seem to be losing the very essence of this channel: impartiality. For me, this channel has lost its appeal. Sad.

I agree. This channel is not what it once was. It’s a fact of life that everything changes and nothing stays the same but it seems as if this channel has changed for the worse. It has migrated toward click baiting titles and over dramatized situations. I understand why Luke is doing this. More views equals more money and I realize he is doing this for a living now. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it has degraded the channel in my eyes. Like you said, the channel has lost its appeal and has lost that special characteristic that set it aside from other channels and made it so popular.

Thanks for posting. I bought the X6 back at Thanksgiving, when they offered a special sale price. Thanks for the warning about water/snow pooling. I will try to devise an aid to minimize it (e.g. an inflatable pillow to create a bump where there currently is a divot). The only complaint I have so far is the difficulty in setup due to pole length, heavy weight, AND ESPECIALLY, non adjustable straps where the pole ends connect to grommets on those straps. When I viewed a video of the 'X4' dome, I saw that unlike the X6, the X4 has ADJUSTABLE straps. This makes setup so much easier. So, I fabricated 6 long straps, each with extra grommets along their length. By initially connecting the poles to grommets located further away from the tent, it made setup MUCH easier. Once all 6 poles have been inserted into the distant grommets, I can then move each pole end close to, or into the tent's original (non adjustable) connection grommets. I complained to Pomoly about this difference between the X4 versus X6 and suggested they add the same adjustability to the X6. P.S. I bought Pomoly's 'Hex' tent several years ago, along with a titanium stove. While I've seen complaints about their service, their service to me, both several years ago, as well as with regards to the X6 - questions/complaints I had about setup, was good.

It’s a shame that a company doesn’t take its reputation more seriously, when it’s revenue depends on the tight nit outdoor community. Someone like me it’s going to drop $600 on tent and they would say “I’m not who this tent marketed for”. No, I’m exactly who they want this tent for. A person who wants to get outdoors, take his family, and have a great experience. Luke, your channel continues to inspire me to get outside, and all of the information you share, helps me make informed decisions, so my journey won’t be a disaster and a waste of money. Thank you. I would try using a larger/ small tarp for the rain fly, then place a beach ball on top of the roof, cover with stated fly option, problem fixed for heavy wet snow, also a large beach ball is perfect if you don't completely blow it up, this will give you more surface area on the tent roof as well as the fly and will give more support for the load. I've played around with what would be the best air pressure and found it's best to just fill it up 3/4 full of air and that is a good starting point. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Are you sure that this was leak? Water was on the bottom areas where you would expect condensation droplets to slide from the underside of the roof. You can test it differently, in the garden spraying with a water hose and only then you will know for sure. I am convinced you are wrong.

So I’m surprised the summer version uses mesh screening as well as the winter. I know you said in a previous video a while back mesh is no good as you get very little to no ventilation through mesh. I bought a small tent last summer based on that and I’m glad I did. Got a nice breeze through screen doors and windows.

I wonder if it would be nice to have a full sized fly for it, with vestibule at the doors. That would smooth out those pockets due to the frame and allow water and snow to slide off easier. Maybe make it out of a heavier nylon instead of silnylon. When you get to that size of a tent, weight is only a partial concern.

The sagging fly issue was solved by a foam doughnut on my North Face ECWT. The foam disc was 10' wide and 4 inches high and was located at the top of the tent between the two fabrics. It simple elevated the fly in the middle to prevent ponding. A simple fix?

Love floor detachable as camp with dogs and sometimes don’t want a floor. Company has treated me well and helped me choose this tent for my camping adventures. Only camped in it twice but will be more trips out soon. Think will have another tarp and use as an apron off a tent door and cover the top as think will pool in center. Think any material will stretch there need one that stretches really tight so can run off instead of pool. Or fastened differently to help keep tight

This is a fantastic and well thought out comprehensive review of this Tent. But, Considering the tent is designed for winter camping a waterproof rating of 3,000mm Hydrostatic Head is very poor for a tent that costs so much money. It’s not surprising to see that small leak which is a shame because otherwise it’s a fantastic tent and has so much going for it.

I still can't get over your Camera skills and your film editing. I have a few videos I did underwater scuba diving. I know how much work goes into it. It has to be a passion. Your videos helped me get through a very rough patch in my life. Wish your family the best. I hope your daughter is home from the Navy. I was a Navy Chief Hospital Corpsman for 22 Years but spent most of it with the Marine infantry. Semper FI

Surprised to see no polyester version. That’d take care of the sagging. Since it’s a car camping tent, it does not have to be lightweight. I like the idea of it. One for solo winter camping and one to take my three person family. And yes, 6-person tent is good enough size for three actual people to enjoy holiday.

Reminds of the cabelas Alaskan guide dome tent I have had this for 22 years and it’s the same set up as what your shown in the vid , the inside of the tent is the same too . Two differences is mine don’t have a stove jack but mine does come with a build in ground sheet .

I’d love to see this sort of tent being part of a larger system. A mesh only version and a shade version, something like a tarp on one side. Obviously all purchasable separately, depending on needs. Great idea that all poles are the same length. That opens many opportunities.

I'm waiting on the full testing you do, because I'm looking for a good 4 season tent for car camping and I like that you can walk into the tent, and the only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have an attached floor.

I’m very interested in this tent. My experience is that most tents leak unless there is a complete rain cover. I like this tent because it has no built in floor, and it has three doors plus a stove jack. I have a Pomoly titanium wood stove and I agree that Pomoly is poor with communications. Very poor. I “do” appreciate your review; that’s awesome. Thank you very much!

I recently purchased a canvas teepee tent from Pomoly. There were zero instructions. I was unable to set it up as the pop pins that joined the centre pole didn’t “click” out and hold the pole sections together because the holes were too small. I contacted Pomoly and received zero help. I ended up fixing the problem by drilling the holes a bit larger which allowed the pin to “pop up” and hold it together. That said Luke I would suggest Pomoly’s track record is still poor and I won’t deal with them again. I have had excellent service from Danchel Outdoors and that’s where I go in the future.

  • @MeMe-cd1wy

Bought the POMOLY Circle 6. It is huge, but does not set up on uneven ground very well. Also, stakes aren’t long enough for snow. Wish i would have bought dome. Circle 6 has two doors side by side and in back of stove. Not really safe as there is no way to escape if fire should start on stove side of tent. Also. It would be nice if tents came in white or tan. The color of this tents can’t possibly any kind of sunset yellow unless you live in smoggiest place on earth.

Back in the 70s and 80s and maybe still now, North Face made Geodesic tents similar to that one. I never could afford even their smallest model. I wonder how they solved the pooling issue on their rain flies? Got to be some sort of simple fix? I do think the pro versions of the Pomoly tents look great.

Would like to see how it handles a snow load. I stick with luxe outdoors pyramid style great with lots of snow. I think they are just pumping out lots of tents instead of a few really good tents.

Luke, another great review. I've been considering a canvas tent (Springbar or Kodiak) for car/truck camping. I know that Springbar offers tent models that are hot- tent ready. Do you or your followers have any experience with canvas tents? If so, what are your thoughts? Thanks! Keep up the great work and very best wishes!
