As someone who was a recipient of all this shit (canning, "murga", hair pulling etc.) I was so happy when corporal punishment was criminalized but when I went home and to my old school, it was still going on, blatantly. These sick fucks enjoy hurting kids and I'm not surprised that there are those who like watching kids get hurt or derive some kind of "Oh I went through it, so they must go through it as well" feeling.

@@multicat2742 I graduated some time before the law was passed but I did talk to the principal and he said the teachers and the parents did not care. It's not always the "I went through it, so do you" mentality. I mean one commenter was asking for only girls to be put in "murga". Why would he only want girls being punished for his request? They're just predators, whether sexually, or otherwise. (Setting aside the evil that is requesting a child be punished on camera in general)

It was even worse for my Mother. Way back then she would be hit just for having some small mistakes in her uniform like not having an ironed shirt or having semi polished shoes. as someone who is used to be in the elementary school and middle school in a 3rd world country I must say this is the norm , not only in villages , heck even if a child goes into a private school there he will probably get the same same treatment , it's either the serious beating or degradation or both , it's an environment where the child realizes that everybody will harm (physically or emotionally or both ) if he's / she's not careful , I remember me and my friends having an American teacher for the first time in high school , she was nice and kind but whenever she gives us a question (no matter how simple it might be) we didn't answer back , she thought that we didn't understand anything from what she had said but the reality is that the fear from our childhood has developed into a serious level , all that abuse we used to have before made us seeing any teacher as some sort of a monster , thus a large part of nice teachers ( or even college professors) are often surprised seeing the students tend to not to interact with them

However one teacher in that school hated that I couldn’t speak my native language properly so she made me close my fingers up tight and hit it with a long stick ruler… And even threatened us that if we ever tell our parents about it, we will get a more cruel punishment. To a certain extent, I would legitimately rather be hit...than sit in stress positions like that for too long. That's actual torture. I mean, it's torture even used by the US government - making people stand/hold stress positions for extended periods of time is an underrated torture method all around! Plus, there are no marks left - so it's very easy to hide. The people in charge can just shrug and say, "I didn't lay a finger on that person"...😏 And the resulting pain & suffering isn't taken nearly as seriously...unlike something that leaves marks on the body that can be shown, proven, and taken seriously. It's evil shit, in my opinion.

This combined with the fact that pain tolerance goes down with fear, and we have a situation where her definition of "harm" is solely in the physical sense. I can't even imagine what kind of angry I would get if someone hit anyone I care about, with something like that, against their will. The psychological harm that does is real and tangible. It's dehumanizing, a nullification of personal autonomy, and damaging to peoples self worth and ability to healthily state and maintain boundaries. That kind of twisted sickos in the comment section sometimes show up in our community but we ostracize them in short order. The sad part is that I don't think she'll be held accountable for her actions. I'm from Karnataka and you see kid's ( babies specifically ) being drugged and used as objects to get more money while a woman carries them around acting like a homeless mother. I, myself, have been subjected to physical and verbal abuse from schools while living in India. This was only three years ago. Rural areas in India don't think much about children safety, so even if a child complains, their parents won't bother taking it up with the school because it's been so normalized. It's honestly repulsive to see this. We need to do better.

I studied in a major city of india . I was a really good kid, had good grades , didnt talk much and won a ton of competitions for the school . I received corporal punishment for not OVER clipping my nails , being a bit late to school , not braiding my very short and silky hair etc. Younger kids are more likely to get this form of punishment not because they are more mischievous than the older kids , its mainly because they can get away with it. Parents are mostly on the teachers side, if the kid gets punished its the kids fault and believe that kids need to be tamed by beating before they reach a certain age . This allows the teachers to be assholes and abuse children for absurd reasons in the name of educating the kids . This needs to stop .

  • @sanyammalhan

I remember being brutally beaten in school. There were 3-4 teachers who used to take out their day on kids. My school was a good private school in the capital of our country so it's not like some rural area but still there is abuse. There was one maths teacher in 12th grade who used to bully me being overweight and that was the reason I didn't like going to school but he used this as an excuse to bully me, mock me and make fun of me infront of the entire class. It wasn't until I cried in front of him that you torture me he realised what kind of harm he was inflicting on me. I don't care if this comment doesn't get any attention at all I just wanted to vent. Now that I'm in a decent job and physically fit I don't look back at the horrible memories which only reminds me how much I hated school. My college was the best time of my life though so there was some relief. Teachers used to slap you because you forgot to bring the book she asked for and minuscule things like that. Now coming back to my maths teacher in 12th grade, he used to ask me questions and since I was absent I didn't know the answers he used this as an excuse to mock me in front of the class and make fun of my weight. Now I know being overweight is not healthy that's why in college I started running and got fit but you've got to understand I was a science student we used to go to tuitions for subjects because school didn't cover everything and didn't teach us properly. So we didn't get any time to work out or engage in fun activities. Now when in my tuition I learnt all that my maths teacher was teaching he asked me a few questions stating that I won't know the answers but on the contrary I proved him wrong and knew all the answers. He was left speechless and that was the most satisfying thing ever at that time. He never made fun of me after that because I didn't give him a reason to.

Now initially I'd recommend you running for 6 months to a year to get to the point where you have little fat left at that point you should join a gym and start exercising with 25-35 minutes cardio+1 hour muscle(single body part)+alternate day abs/sides workout(15-20 minutes). You'd be in shape within a year. I'm a vegan so diet control was pretty easy for me.
