Breathing is often overlooked as a critical component of optimal health. In today’s video, Dr. A teaches you the science and art of breathing correctly, both at rest and during exercise. He begins by demystifying the common misunderstandings around proper breathing techniques, explaining why your diaphragm is the key muscle for effective breathing. By optimizing your breath, you can shift your system into a more relaxed and oxygenated state, which in turn enhances every other aspect of your well-being.
Dr. A also explains how to breathe while exercising or lifting weights to stabilize your spine and improve performance. By practicing your breathing, you'll start to realize the immediate benefits in your everyday life and exercise routine. Don't miss this opportunity to elevate your health through proper breathing.

As a singer, I know all about making sure you're breathing with the diaphragm. I tell students all the time to use different exercises like this to help them breathe deeply. Thanks Dr. A!!

Fantastic info. I've been breathing this way for a couple of decades now, after learning from a friend and mentor of mine and it's made a huge difference.

Breathing diaphragmatically and meditating go hand and hand. Perhaps this is a good starting point for those who are new to this!

I read that exhaling via the mouth while pursing the lips was good for you. Can you comment on the efficacy? Thanks for another great video

Hey Glenn, thanks for writing in and great question! Your nose filtration is the most ideal as our nose was intended as the primary delivery system. The mouth was more of a secondary or back-up method and if you feel more comfortable exhaling through the mouth, by all means, keep it going! Our take home message was to try and shift the inhale through the nostrils, if at all possible. Thanks for watching! -The FFP Team

Pursed-lip breathing is a technique that can create calm and relaxation in the body: "The positive pressure created opposes the forces exerted on the airways from the flow of exhalation. As a result, pursed-lip breathing helps support breathing by the opening of the airways during exhalation and increasing excretion of volatile acids in the form of carbon dioxide preventing or relieving hypercapnia. Through purse-lip breathing, people can have relief of shortness of breath, decrease the work of breathing, and improve gas exchange. They also regain a sense of control over their breathing while simultaneously increasing their relaxation."
