That game really made me realise how good McTominay is at finding himself in the right spot at the right time in the box. Watching the highlights, several times he was just “there”. If only he could finish some of those chances better, he looked pretty good going forward.

I’d argue he’s as (net) efficient as Bruno in the no.10 role. Like you said he’s great at positioning himself but he’s not agile enough to take the no.9 spot like Ronaldo. Therefore offensively his best position is CDM, where he can capitalize on the ball getting loose around the 18yd line and D, then sniping the ball into the back of the net with an absolute rocket. The trouble with developing Mctominay in this regard was that he struggles with both linkup play and returning on the transition, which was absolutely crippling during the McFred years when the PL meta of high press 4-2-3-1 was already mature in its adoption. Thankful to see that McTominay has made improvements on those aspects, though due to previous performances I and likely other tactical analysts will still see that as a weakness to be exploited.

Listening to the start of this reminds me of talking about Arsenal in the 21/22 season. There were some games where we made top teams look like a joke, and games where we looked completely lost - sometimes both in the same game! And that time definitely showed the blueprint for where we are now; especially the second half of that season.

We're talking about "dramatic" - read the video title and see my response... you can't get more dramatic than a faulty send-off at the start of a clash between Ingurland's new foreign headboy and a scruffy German, lots of questionable decisions in favor of one team and no send-offs for that team even though they were filthy, a livid away crowd, manager-antics, a goal that shouldn't have stood, leveling the score while being down to 10 men, the away team scoring a disallowed goal that would've made it a winner, impeccable defending until the last kick of the game... only for the team that was hard-done by... to concede and lose the game at the death. Then the ensuing inquest and uproar over the next 2 weeks, all all because the losing team had the 8alls to, rightly, question the officiating. By far- the most dramatic match of the season. Oh, btw- Well done, ya tw@ts! You deserve it.

I'm COYS and even I hopped off the couch when United got that late winner. Something about Klopp announcing his departure and the subsequent extended love-in has annoyed me so it was satisfying to see Liverpool taken down a peg, a team I still don't rate that highly tbh.

As a Liverpool fan I'll admit we looked absolutely knackered all game, I know a lot of people don't think it's a valid excuse for some reason but fixture congestion and lack of PROPER depth currently absolutely bit us in the ass here, especially toward the end of the 90' and in extra time, there were moments when we were 2-1 up but just refused to finish the game off

It’s not about the midfield it’s about having cbs who cannot squeeze up the pitch to press high they’re all great box defenders so they constantly retreat leaving that space when we went man to man in ET with Maguire, dalot, Bruno and Antony we literally pressed Liverpool better because Everyone kept tight and high no space to breath
