    @@supermantrlyi watched it 3 years ago so ill save you the trouble of watching this shit and hopefully i remember it💀. it's about a girl named midori who's mom passes away, then some dickheaded teenagers killed her dog by stepping on it (it makes no sense but bear with me here) and she and the guests she's serving food is eating that same dog. so she has no money to fend for herself. oh btw did i forget to mention what happened to her mom's dead body? (rats started eating into her you know what). she joins a circus because 1 man somehow believed in her ability. and if you thought everything i said before was disgusting, the circus part is beyond criminal. think of griffith from berserk if everyone person in the circus was like him after the golden age arc. if you read berserk, you know exactly what i mean. and the headmaster himself who hired Midori is a nutcase and she falls in love with him thinking he's her savior. I may have gotten some details wrong but finally in the end, they both love each other and leave the circus behind. the headmaster tells Midori to wait at the bus stop so that he can buy some food for them. the scene cuts to the headmaster, getting stabbed to death by some mugger. and Midori waits for a very long time for him until she decides to look for him. After a while, Midori finds his dead body, and uhhhh, might just be the most horrifying cries and screams I've ever heard in any piece of fiction. And in the end, we see a silhouette of a rope hanging on a tree if im not mistaken, implying she took her own life.

    The 80s and 90s were the Wild West of anime. There wasn’t much precedent for what anime should be back then as it had still been a scarce commodity up until that point. Midori is indeed a crazy movie, but it isn't that kind of film which remains with you for a long time or give you nightmares. The first ten minutes are the most intense ones, otherwise it isn't that disturbing at all. Serial Experiments: Lain isn't horror or disturbing, but a Psychological/SF anime, and is a really good one. However, there are many head scratching scenes, which make you wonder "What the hell did I just watch?!" and then your brain goes "yacbire536845prbu83ev733gg8gnirj7wgvedh 5ecr4f...". But Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent are actually great, I recommend them.

    Honestly, Midori is just like: "hey, we want you to feel bad so let's make a movie about a innocent girl who it's involved in the most disturbing situations ever". Most of the time, disturbing movies just do it the easy way gore and shock value, making anything 10 ways more disturbing. That's why Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent are so good, because they go into your mind.

  • @carelessdreamer

    @carelessdreamer

    Midori actually does have some interesting reasons behind why it is the way it is. The manga was essentially an eroguro of a Kamishibai story. (Both of which I won’t explain because looking them up is easier than trying to explain whole genres.) But the movie itself was not even made by the author of the manga. It was made by a child victim of hazing who used the manga like vent art and wanted to show people the terrible reality many children in Japan were exposed to. It’s also partly about morbid curiosity. With all that context in mind, I still find it gross and never wanna watch more than the scattered scenes I have seen, but I also don’t want to dismiss it completely as mindless shock. That’s someone’s trauma you know? All that aside, I love Perfect Blue but I haven’t seen Paranoia Agent.

  • @haunted.doll.s

    Жыл бұрын

    Basically, it’s based on an old kamishibai stock story of an innocent preadolescent girl from an impoverished family who goes from selling camellia flowers on the street to being either tricked, forced or sold into a circus as a performer. The movie Midori is a dark interpretation of the story, making the circus out to be far more inhumane than the original stories did- which tbh is probably more realistic- and sees Midori facing extreme trauma. After her mother dies despite Midori’s attempts to raise money, the boss of a traveling circus in the area tricks her into joining, and when she arrives she is forced to stay by the other members, who basically make her do their bidding and abuse her all the while, as well as her being raped on several occasions, and has a group of puppies murdered when she was taking care of them. Despite all of this, Midori continues to progress and do her best to face life with a smile, and eventually things begin to look up in her eyes when a magician from the west joins the circus and takes a liking to her. However, it’s clear to the audience that this guy is grooming and attempting to control her entirely, but because he’s somehow the least abusive of the circus, she trusts him, and they plan to leave the circus together when it ends up disbanding. Now here’s the fucking gut punch. Unbeknownst to Midori, the magician gets murdered as the two are leaving, when he goes on ahead of her. Thanks to the circus’s travels, she’s in a new town she can’t navigate, and the one person she had is gone. She comes to the conclusion he abandoned her and this was another sick joke from the circus, leading her on with the promise of finally being happy only to humiliate and traumatize her again, and she imagines herself lashing out at the troupe while they all laugh at her, delightful to have taken her one last chance away, until Midori’s imagined conflict with them spirals and fades, leaving her alone with nowhere to go, and no one to help her. Midori was actually never banned in every country, it was banned in Japan and basically withheld until it surfaced in 2013. I can see it violating rules on what content is allowed in terms of things like CSA in Europe, but I really doubt this was some worldwide thing. The shit banned worldwide is like.. propaganda films featuring live beheadings

It is an incredible resource more people should know about, after you finish watching it and if you were invested in the story you'll start trippin on sidewalks when hearing the electric sound of power lines.

    *Interesting Facts about Midori Shoujo Tsubaki:* Midori Shoujo Tsubaki (the version we’re familiar with at least) was originally a manga called Mr. Arashi’s Amazing Freak Show that was written by Suehiro Maruo and published by Serindo. The Midori Shoujo Tsubaki anime was animated by one man named Hiroshi Harada. He used his own life savings to fund it and drew every single frame of animation all by himself. Scenes of the original full version of the OVA were stolen and destroyed because they were too disturbing and disgusting (which, given the content of the rest of the film, makes you wonder just how bad those missing scenes were). Currently, no versions of the film that have been found contain those missing scenes. The only possible way to witness what might’ve been in those lost scenes would be to read the original manga. The anime received a live-action adaptation in 2016 titled Midori: The Camellia Girl. The film was written and directed by Torico and produced by Masahiro Tashiro and Studio Link Rights, with music composed by Hitomi Kuroishi.

    Okay Since the Shorts guy forgot to add reason why X was banned I did some quick research for few easy to ban reasons and sorry ahead for long comment: Kite(1998): Main protagonist Sawa has been in very explicit scenes and she is a minor (early teens) and a lot of brutal scenes, only found Norway Banned since their Strict Child Pornography laws, otherwise it was controversal. Serial Experiments lain(1999): there is a video game(which onöy shares MC and name), and I couldn't find why it was abnned, i think OP's source is lacking, since I found it it got positive feedback and a lot of thought the anime to be like evolution one. Okay because of its depressive moments it had been banned. Perfect Blue(1997): Only found that due to many graphic scenes (a stabbing one is quite infamous) it caused some Jitters for release, couldn't find straight up bans. Paranoia Agent (2004): Okay I found that it was momentary Banned in USA due to restrictions to broadcast suicide. It didnt get proper airing in Japan, until a censored (or maybe the censored anime was for USA) Lily C.A.T (1997) Basicially Gore, a scene where cat gets killed, it was censored before allowed to air in USA Midori (1997): Also known as Shoujo Tsubaki... Yeah this SOB deserves to be banned. Let's see... 1st Nobody wanted to invest so the guy self-invested this. There is a lot of gore and animal abuse and child abuse. MC mother gets eaten alive by rodents, MC murders puppies and yeah its such horrible don't watch the scenes on YT even, save yourselves! Ty for reading :D
