I cant agree with your Jaren Jackson and Bagley take. Jaren Jackson cant be really disappointing if he was a big part in the Grizzlies going to the playoffs. Also in the early part of the year, he was a DPOY candidate. Now he made all defense 1st team. That isn’t disappointing. Marvin Bagley is by far the most disappointing

I was baffled by him considering JJJ, as JJJ was clearly one of the most important pieces in Grizz run, even without Ja on the floor, he was an on-court leader, with amazing defensive skills, got out of foul trouble he had his whole life, played pretty much every game this season... He kinda just matured and got a role. With 2 aggresive players on Bane and Ja, he doesn't even need to be the heavy scorer anymore. Marvin Bagley got on so many off-court problems and never lived up to his expectations even in the Kings.

I think back then, he was supposed to be this unicorn and do it all. Sure, he's not the main option right now, but his defense (which was his biggest strength) translated well plus he could still punish people in the low post at times and shoot from three (if only he stops having a toxic relationship with fouling). If anything, it should be Bagley here as he hasn't made significant progress (yes injuries suck and was drafted to a team where talent is wasted but still)

JJJ is a DPOY candidate all defensive, played pretty 78 games this season, a big man that can is capable of hitting the three and ain't afraid of trying in the clutch, improved a lot with the foul trouble, leader in blocks and blocks+steals in NBA, with great chemistry with the Grizz squad. He got his role. His offensive production did went down as he is still finding a rythm back as a stretch 4/5, but he doesn't need to carry the offensive load, even without Ja on the floor, Bane is now "the guy". He should not be compared with Bagley, who was a higher pick and couldn't stay out of trouble and be a reference even for a bad team like the Kings.

Toss up between Jackson and Bagley? Do you even watch Memphis basketball? Bagley struggles to get PT past Kelly Olynyk on a young tanking pistons team with nothing to lose, meanwhile Jackson is the best defender on a team that finished 2nd in the west and only got beaten by the team who is now going to the finals. Jackson may not be as great offensively as he was before but his defense is incredible and he was in contention of DPOY. Bagley on the other hand can't play back to backs without getting hurt. How can you say JJJ and bagley were close, jarren was on the two seed and played in 78 of those games. His offense is down but it’s in big part due to Ja’s usage rate, he was in the conversation for DPOY, was an all defensive 1st team player this year and is a pivotal piece of Memphis rn all at the age of 22. I cannot agree with some of your takes here Andy. JJJ almost won DPOY and is literally the best shot blocker in the league right now, so he's far from disappointing. I get that he isn't the best offensive player but I don't know why you considered him at all against Bagley as the most disappointing top 5 draft pick of 2018 when he's the defensive anchor of Memphis, a top 2 team overall in the regular season. Bagley is far and away the most disappointing. I don't care if he's showing signs in Detroit, he's only proven to be an absolutely injury prone player with a ton of off-court issues as well. You cannot actually say JJJ is disappointing at all compared to Bagley so far. Meanwhile, RJ Barrett has been improving this year and each year he's played. He had some amazing games this season and has proven to be the best player for NY. He's miles better than Randle and RJ is only going to get better from here as a scorer. How can you say a 20 PPG scorer in his 3rd year is disappointing? The worst player on the top 5 of the 2019 class is definitely Deandre Hunter. You could've said him instead because he's not doing as much as the other 4 players. At least those 4 players have proven to be capable of being first options.

And then I saw them go head to head in the summer league and Porzingis ate Okafor up alive in every conceivable way. When he wasnt popping jumpers over Okafor he was driving past him to the rim for a dunk. What was worse was how Okafor, a classically trained big man with an excellent menu of post moves kept getting his shots blocked in the post. At one point Okafor got so frustrated that on a back to the basket spin move he purposely left his elbow out and nailed Porzingis in the chest. He got T'd up and they took Okafor out of the rest of the game. At that point I just knew the Knicks dodged a bullet.
