Actually the glass armonica was invented by Franklin to make playing of the glasses easier. Before it was only wine glasses filled with water, which was very difficult to play. Robert Tiso right here on KZread does an excellent job, who I enjoy greatly, even if he re-records over himself. I have myself been repairing antique music boxes for years which sort of has a similar sound, and have enjoyed carillons very much and am still very much alive, so I don't think the arminica is really a deadly instrument. If anything it is very peaceful and relaxing.

Also potentially lead glass but you'd have to play a hell of a lot for that to be a problem

I did not know Ben Franklin created it but I've heard it before. Lovely sound... Perhaps folks put off by it wouldn't enjoy a Theremin either.

Fascinating. Very odd. But I agree the music is haunting. It's a shame it was pretty much lost.

It sounds like a theremin, I wonder if there are any complaints about the newer electronic instrument.

Personally, I like the sound. I also genuinely enjoy pipe organs though.

Now there's something I can definitely turn into a story. I'll have to do some research.

RIP to the 1st person who played the glass Harmonica to hear what it sounded like.

I have heard them being played at colonial events it is a truly beautiful sound.

Well done for the lively and entertaining way of talking about my beloved armonica. Nice to see my hands here and there in the video. Otherwise, to reassure people who would like to attend a concert, I still don't have too many psychiatric symptoms, after 35 years of practice so you should last an hour or two... 😂

I think this is the best instrument for creating psychodrama!

Franklin shared a house in London with William Hewson, a young physician who gave informal anatomy lessons at home. Dissecting human bodies was not allowed legally, so Hewson would have obtained bodies by hiring “resurrection men” (grave robbers), who would smuggle corpses from the cemetery or snatch them right off the gallows. What was I doing? Where am I? Who cares?!?! there's a new eskify up. it's business time.

There is a tv show called Secrets of the Dead that talked about bones found in one of Franklins houses. One of the people who lived with him was believed to be studying anatomy. So it was likely the human bones were from corpses that were being dissected. Can't have the police knowing what you are doing with human remains so they were hidden in the house. Think about how long it would take to get good at it and the number of hours to practice to be basic level.

*If you'd like an example of how haunting it sounds in the form of a song you've likely heard before, KZread **_Aquarium_** from **_Carnival of the Animals._* It's literally one of my favorite classical pieces. The sounds conjure mental images of fish darting around as well as delicately floating along the sea floor. It's incredible, making it all the more stunning that its composer, Camille Saint-Saëns, thought the whole suite would be a flop.

The Hydrodaktulopsychicharmonica (thanks BlueCometDude) might have caused miniature seizures due to harmonics and frequencies associated with the natural "inner frequency" of human beings. A lot like you can break glass at specific frequencies you might break blood vessels.

Seems more like a hygiene problem. Wetting your fingers before playing, meant transferring pathogens.

I think the Haunting Sounds of the Glass Harmonica are Quite Beautiful.

I also tend to open up portals to evil dimensions with the chord progressions I make with my midi controller

The first design was one tube with various sizes all blown into the one long tube. However, it wouldn't stop producing ectoplasm or either out of thin air. So design was changed to multiple glass bowls stacked.
