The Most Complicated Automatic Watch Movement?? Moritz Grossmann Hamatic x Kari Voutilainen

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What do you get when you combine Moritz Grossmann and Kari Voutilainen?? This beautiful masterpiece combining German + Swiss watchmaking of the highest level. The Hamatic movement developed by the team at Moritz Grossmann is in my opinion one of the most impressive automatic movements of today and I hope you enjoy all the details of it as much as I did.

Hi Eddy, That is an excellent example of this type of pendulum winding mechanisms. As mentioned in the video, it originated already in pocket watches and later on found different iterations with Harwood, bumper automatic or the mentioned Buren calibre. The key point here is, they all cannot be found in wristwatches today for lack of efficiency. To be also honest, they were not very pretty either ;) The big challenge in watchmaking was to solve the bi-directional winding with great efficiency and integrate into the Glashütte style of watchmaking and finishing of the movement. The result is still unique in its own way, yet true to the movements that paved the way.

Hi Eddy, thank you for your thoughtful comment. The Buren 525 wasn't working and production stopped 4 years later. The challenge in making this mechanism work took nearly 3 years to handle and solve. The Hamatic is far away from a copy of any of the previous movements even by Perrelet and Breguet. The Hamatic movement not only works, but is extremely efficient. In addition, it has been designed in a way to look very attractive. And it is beautifully handfinished. I know the position of some watchmakers in Switzerland. At the end of the day, the Hamatic is a wonderful timepiece.

The Buren 525 is cool, thank you for showing that movement, didn't know it before :). I think Lars put it well there with his explanation. :)
