That's just it though- music is all rhythm. I argued with a guy right here on KZread years ago that no, its 50/50 harmony/melody and rhythm. But the more I have written music, the more I've studied it, the more I realize he was exactly right- it is all rhythm. Rhythm is what changes and defines a piece of music from another, because we've all put together the same chords and chord patterns, as there's really only so many you can make. But rhythm, texture, inflection, all the fine details are what give your music its personal touch and what makes it ultimately unique from everyone else.

Invert doesn't mean to move up an octave. It just means changing what note is the bass note of the chord. C E G makes C Major. C Major 1st inversion is ECG or EGC. On a literal music theory level ALL inversion means is changing the bass note in the chord by an interval in the chord, as the definition shown described. However, these inversions will often lead to people rearranging other notes in the chord for different "voicings" in the inversions.

I sometimes use diminished or half diminished chords a half step above or below whichever chord I am going to. It does however creates a lot of tension. You can also use substitute chords. C major chord is essentially A minor for example. I’m still learning but starting to understand the relationships of chords. Options are limitless!! Good luck!

Great video I understand the scale being C to C How was The 2-5-1 chord progression used to start the melody ? From my understanding each bar of notes represents a chord and the chord being 2-5-1 I would have put first note “ D “ then count the major 7 chord being a Dmajor 7 or 9th I need help understanding standing why we chose “C” The next chord was intense you chose to make it a D witch would be the 5 in the 251 chord progression The third chord was B minor 7 Then ended the loop with 2-5-1 that was the only point that made clear when it was in use I’m not sure how you chose these chords I mixing something together I bet if anyone can help explain this to me it would be ver helpful

You are doing a "Quick 2-5-1" at the end to come back to CMaj9 (also called a turnaround), but your main progression is a 6-5-1 in E minor (your 3rd chord, which is the actual key), which is probably "the" most common progression in modern R&B ;) Cheers !
