Thank you for actually explaining why the chord progression works and nit just placing them down, extremely educational
Nice video. The way you find the secondary dominant is faster than the way I did it, counting 7 semitones. Imma use that now. Just a list of stuff for anyone to look up on their own for more RnB tips: Secondary Dominants Altered Dominants ii V I (vi*) *optional iiø V i Walking up the bass from a whole step under Smooth voice leading Inversions Diminished passing chord to minor chord Half diminished passing chords Removing 3rd from m11 chord Extended chords That Stefan Guy (I think that's the channel?) Hook theory If anyone knows something else then tell me cuz I'm still learning new things. Maybe I'll make an iceberg for it one day haha.

Hi, total begginer here! The scale is C Major, but while making the passing chords in the 7th dominant you used the keys off scale. Why is that so? And how do i know wich chords should i use? Thanks for the tutorial!

Same question. Or better yet, how do I count notes to make the dominant 7th?

He’s borrowing notes from the blues scale. The “Off key” notes you’re referring to are actually in key. It’s just Blues variation of the C minor/major ( not sure which one).

Also he could be borrowing notes from the harmonic minor scale, whatever the case is, he’s borrowing notes from either one, but with some ear training it’ll be easy to make the midi by ear

It’s called secondary dominant chords. Just take the fifth chord from the scale of the chord you’re trying to land on and make it a dominant 7. Use this trick to get a nice passing chord before any chord.
That chord progression sounds like strech you out by Summer walker
