The Most Bloated Modern Army | North Korean Modern Armour Part 1

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), more often simply known as North Korea, was established following the conclusion of the Second World War in East Asia. The Korean peninsula, previously a part of Japan’s colonial empire, was divided in two, between a Soviet zone in the north and an American one in the south. This quickly led to the formation of two different regimes, which, with support from their respective allies, would clash during the eventually inconclusive Korean War of 1950-1953. Since then, North Korea has spent its time developing and building new, domestic armored fighting vehicles in preparation for a second Korean war. Today we examine these developments.

@@iraholden3606 Granted my initial reply was a joke, I would like to respond to this. When it comes to authoritarian regimes, you can see how many are far too often guilty of projection. China might be the biggest offender here, but that doesn't let North Korea off the hook either. With this you can make some assumptions of the authoritarian regime by seeing what they say about other people. You can also look at the same type of govt. who all too often spout bold faced lies that are a complete 180 from the truth, and use that to suss out the truth. ie. in a natural disaster they say nobody died, then it is likely many people died. Yes assumptions are dangerous, but that does not mean they are always wrong. Yes there is not much info that comes out of places like North Korea, but that does not mean we cannot make educated guesses into their capability. I am in complete agreement that we should not rely on the MSM to actually inform us of anything though. It is far better to do ones own learning, and then make up your own mind based on that. This does not preclude listening to actual experts and whatnot though, they can be and often are, important sources of information. Especially given that many have the ability to easily distill and pass on their particular knowledge.

I would have said it was true... IF it wasn't SO easy to make composite armor. Pour concrete into the space between two steel plates? Composite! Fill it with sand? Composite! Install glass and rubber panels? Composite! Layers two different steel types with duralumin plate on the inside? You guessed it, it's composite! People apparently just don't get what composite material means and that we had them even before WWI... just not on tanks;) Heck, even stereotypical roman wall shield _scutum_ was made with what falls under category of composite material.

Right but look at situation from North Korean perspective. I believe their doctrine is trying to copy what worked for them during the first Civil War which is copying what Germany did against Poland except the air doctrine portion. I believe North Korea will try to dive their tanks as deep as possible into South Korea to create chaos and cut off supply forces while the infantry chase up and secure the rear. Fortunately, it won't work for modern warfare.

I wonder why China doesn't do the same for NK as the U.S did for S.K... Clearly they have the wealth and know-how now to invest there. the U.S uses S.K as an extension of their geopolitical power, and a strong S.K economically and militarily was in their interest... Isn't this the case for Chinas relation with N.K as well?

Im guessing it is because NK is, for a lack of a better word, craycray. Who would guess what Mr Kim would do with more economic and technological power. It helps for Kim to act like a madman, but i guess it comes with the disadvantage of even allies distrusting them.

It's because that China defensive policy is different from the Soviet doctrine. All China cares about is making sure each nation that borders them is pro China or at least anti west and has tried it's best to keep it that way. The strange issue with North Korea is that China knows North Korea is a hot gun just waiting to explode and acts illogical in the modern world. China has openly said they rather deal with South Korea because at least they can be reasonable when it comes to diplomacy. North Korea on the other hands always screams to China to help them restart the Civil War and China has turned it down because they know they have to take the brunt of the work in order to make it work. Ever since US and the Free World withdraw from South Vietnam, North Korea has gotten this view that they believe they don't need to defeat the US in order to secure South Korea, they just need to inflict enough pain to scare them away. They begged China to restart the war after Vietnam and China continues to turn them down because once again, China has to do the bulk of the work.

China Tried. china has, on multiple occasions, suggest that NK start chinese-style reforms. the north korean leadership simply doesn't want to do it. and unlike SK, NK is no henchman of anyone and china cant force them. china has no fine control there, just a large hammer that can break NK.

It's not even real Juche. Juche is a Confucian philosophy, outlining how people should learn from others to master their talents via apprenticeship, to then teach people what you have learned once you have achieved mastery. It sounds great but when applied to politics it means the leader has to be beyond flawless, which is why the Kim dynasty is said to read minds, control the moon and tides, and the foreign aid they receive is actually "tribute" for the west losing the war.
